Yesterday I finally tried my hand at fishing a larger swimbait (for Wisconsin standards at least). I was fishing the 7" version. I got a ton of action on it (pike loved it too). Problem is, my hookup ratio was pretty bad. I was using a 5/0 in this. I'm curious what you guys use. Would a 7/0 be too big and mess up the action of the bait?

Collector's item! Anybody remember the Strike King Pork-O's? Man, I caught so many fish on those things. To this day nothing has the movement that those things had.

When I heard they were coming out with a version smaller than the 90, I was disinterested. But now after seeing it. Seeing that's it's wider, taller and makes more commotion than the 90, I'm quite intrigued.

I just ordered a Gantarel Jr. as well and have been contemplating the same thing. Someone here said the feathers help the hooks float some so the hooks stay closer to the body during the retrieve. TackleTour seems to be on the fence. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewjackallgantarelpg2.html

Nice job! Frog fishing the slop is probably my favorite thing to do. I like the poppin' ones, but if the slop is quite thick, I notice the regular frogs slide over the vegetation easier. I do add a few bb's in the bottom hole to add a little weight and rattle. This is one of many I caught yesterday on the frog.

I'm pumped about this.

OK, thanks. Kind of bummed because I was planning on ordering from TW with the 15% off, but it looks like St. Croix doesn't participate in the sale.

So I'm looking to upgrade to a better top water (poppers, stick baits) rod. Also to double as a jerkbait rod. The Mojo 6'8" M/F is labeled as their jerkbait rod. The 6'6" M/XF is labeled as their topwater. Both rods are rated to throw 1/4-5/8oz baits. I'm torn on which way to go, as I haven't really held either one. Is one more versatile than the other? Can I throw weightless Senkos/Flukes on one? (the extra fast, perhaps?) What about the fast action. In what ways would that be beneficial to the extra fast? From what I've read, both rods feel VERY similar. Thanks for any info.

Yeah, my bad. Meant "why". And that's interesting. I just figured they were more for added attraction, which I thought was odd for that type of bait.

Totally agree. It's been years since I've had a rod with foam handles, and I didn't care for them. I figured they've gotten better with newer technology? Maybe not though..

Oh, ok. Thanks for the tip. I definitely didn't have that much rope out. I had slack, but not THAT much. Do you think 15lb is heavy enough? I have the anchor tied straight to the rope. Some have said to have a chain attaching the rope to the anchor. Thoughts on that?

Good point. I've just heard a lot of good things about the Falcon's and I like trying new things. I used to be strictly a Shimano guy. But last year I gave Daiwa (Tats) a hard look, and I'm glad I did. Now I have as many Tats as I do Curados. I am leaning towards the Dobyns, though.

I wanted to get an anchor for time when I take friends out who wanna panfish, etc. After doing quick research, and talking to a guy at Cabela's, I decided to get a 15lb navy-style anchor. My understanding is the navy anchor will do well in both hard and soft bottoms. My boat is a 17' 1/2" mod V, so it isn't overly heavy. Yesterday I was out and had the anchor down (silt/muck bottom). The wind picked up and it blew me like nothing. Should I just get a heavier anchor? Or should I get a mushroom style instead? Or are there other options for sallower water anchoring (minus power poles, which I'd love at some point). Thanks.

Honestly, the only 'swimbaits' I've thrown up until now are the smaller ones like Keitechs. I wanna start throwing larger ones like these: Dobyns lists the Fury 735C as a "Frogs, Pitchin' & Flippin', Small Swimbaits" rod. That's why I figured I could use it as both.
