You can try it as a big drop shot. On my lakes, pterodactyl's like swimming subsurface more than they do flying.

Feel/performance is #1, by a wiiiide margin. But yeah, it's a bonus if the rod looks nice. Especially with the cost of some of these rods nowadays. The Shimano Expride B may be my favorite rod. It's a great performing rod but it's also an absolute beauty. Very simple, yet classy.

Placed a TW order at midnight last night. Got email this morning at 8:30am saying it shipped. I can't remember the last time a TW order was processed that fast.

Right, still a decent deal. But for people who aren't as up on this stuff will be paying more than they should when purchasing stuff when there isn't a sale. Kistler likes to be sneaky, too. On their site, they do have some really good sales quite often, but they're never as good as they seem. On their site, the Helium lists for $400, whereas TW always has them for $300. They list the KLX at $300. On TW they're $250. And yeah, Dick's is a joke.

Are you able to buy the EVO anywhere yet? I see on Tackle Direct, they have a green pumpkin available for pre-order.

Entirely up to you. Personally I don't like pigeonholing myself with one brand. Every brand has their own feel to them. Some company's models are great, while others may not be for what you're looking for. There's so many great brands out there that I like to try multiple companies out. I have over 40 rods from 18 different companies. Granted, I may have 4-6 from one company and 1 or 2 from another, etc.

Just a heads-up with Discount Tackle. They jack the price up on a lot of their baits, so when they say 20% off, it's usually more like 15% off. For example, the Z-Man Mini Max retails for $8.99 at TW, Bass Pro and other places. At Discount Tackle they list it for $9.49.

So 3 casting rods from the old Mojo line to get started? 6'8 M/F- Topwater, jerkbait, finesse jigs/t-rigs. Could get away with throwing squarebills and lipless in a pinch. 7'1 MH/F- Can do all kinds of stuff with this rod. Jigs, swim jigs, Texas-rig, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, paddletail swimbaits. 7'4 H/F- Frog and flipping heavier cover. Another great series of rods that are on the 'cheaper' end are the Ark Randall Tharp Honey Badger Series. They retail for $130, but with the new line coming out, these may be getting discounted soon. I think they punch higher than their price-point, and they look great as well. But you can't go wrong with the Mojo's, either.
