  1. Here's several good options I would recommend across various price points. Because of rock and wood, I'm not going to suggest braid. The most budget option, but works: 15# Berkley Big Game Economy option: 15# Sufix Siege or Advance Middle of the road option: Seaguar Invizx or Abrazx, 15# or 17# Higher end option, Daiwa J-Fluoro Samurai in 16#-20#. Around this time of year, it tends to be a little over $20 a spool on ebay and at that price, that's a steal.
  2. Hey guys, I forgot to schedule the call. This week was not going to be good anyway as I'm pretty swamped even though I have it off. How about next Thursday, 12/9?
  3. I pretty much use the uni pretty universally, 4-6 turns. On braid, sometimes I will use the palomar as well since it cinches down real tight with braid.
  4. I have been using the Owner Wide Gap Plus hooks this year. @A-Jay got me hooked on them.
  5. I just realized I live a little over a hour away. I have never fished this spot but I might have to give it a shot next year.
  6. Honestly you can't go wrong with either. One reason to choose Champlain would be that you can choose to target largemouths if the smallies aren't biting, but on the St Lawrence the largemouth opportunities are generally more limiting.
  7. Odd. I haven't found any Daiwa rod to be really too tip heavy especially compared to rods that are really tip heavy.
  8. This is exactly why I like a full handle for moving baits. Personally, I would go with the 805CB (or the glass version if you wanted glass) if I was looking to throwing anything over 1oz regularly. For 6XDs, the 765CB would do nicely, it's just a matter of length. If this is was my primary deep diver rod, I would go with the longer rod to keep it in the zone personally - this one is likely not to see much use from the shore or near shorelines where low hanging branches are a problem. The Tatula Elite is one of the better US model Daiwa reels for throwing crankbaits. I wouldn't buy another reel specifically for the task but if you happen to need another reel and could repurpose the Tatula Elite appropriately, take a look the Shimano Curado MGL 70 or SLX MGL 70, depending on what your budget.
  9. The 7'3" is one I do not have. I have the first gen 6'10" MH/F (and that's the best rod I ever bought under $200) and the 7'1" MH/XF for MH Tatulas and they're a bit different.
  10. Try the Sierra 703C. I couldn't think of a better do it all rod that will throw a square bill, lipless, jerkbait, popper and weightless soft plastics. Another option is the St Croix Mojo Bass M/F rods, either the 6'8" jerkbait model or the 7'1" plastics, depending on which length you prefer. The M/F Tatula likely would have been roughly similar (I don't own any of the mediums). The Fury CB is actually a very good rod, but many people (myself included) like a rod with a lot of bend throughout but not too much bend in the tip for jerkbaits. The faster tip of the rods I suggested above are better for jerkbaits, not too stiff for crankbaits and they let you fish weightless soft plastics as well.
  11. For that matter, the Tatula 7'2" MH/R Glass would do very well here. I have that rod, but didn't suggest it because it's more expensive but with a 20% off sale, it would be close.
  12. I do the exact same thing myself. Oddly, the only time I had bogus charges was right when I was buying my house on my check card from some random dating website that doesn't verify information besides the credit card number and expiration date. Luckily I happened to sign in and see my total balance was what it should be but my available was low so I called my bank which was how I caught it. They were rejected before they ever went through.
  13. I've broken two rods, one was my fault although to be honest it shouldn't have broken that easily (I was trying to pop a stuck lure free). The other broke when I leant it to my kid, he picked up a fairly small and normally insignificant weed with the drag set barely over a pound and it broke. I really don't think he did anything wrong. But I always keep my drag set within reason.
  14. You can use your bank card as credit too, avoid any vendor and bank fees and have the same protections. It just comes out of your account until they deem it a bogus charge (if they do - they don't always do that)
  15. Does TW take bank accounts directly? If not, then it's probably check cards, which means it could apply to credit cards as well. Of course, I don't have any details and it may that hackers got the person's credit card because they made a TW order from a computer (or more likely android device) that had a backdoor on it with a keylogger or something similar.
  16. For deep divers, you will generally want something like MH/MF. The Dobyns 705CB should be able to swing a 5XD, but not much more than that. Some MH/MF will handle a 6XD, but others will throw heavier lures like a 8XD so check the weight ratings on the rod to get some idea of what to expect.
  17. So my mom hosted Thanksgiving today. Overall it was a good day, but I was a little worried. My sister and brother in law chose to do Thanksgiving with my brother in laws family, and my mom tends to follow many really out there conspiracy theories and usually when they leave it's time to high tail it out of there before things go south as she is very vocal about it and shoves that stuff down my throat quite aggressively and if I say anything gets really mad, which needless to say can be rather unpleasant. So without my sister and her side of the family there, I was a little concerned. I have been dealing with acid reflux all week and it hit me pretty early today, so I went and sat on the couch after cleaning up. So everyone came over into the living room and she was looking for nice scenery to put on in the TV, so I showed her a couple of places on my to do list and then drone videos of some of the lakes that I fish regularly. Then I showed her some of Kristine Fischer's videos (there was one I was looking for where she was going under trees, eventually I found it) but she was pretty fascinated by the fishing videos and I was able to explain a lot of what she is doing. So in a way, fishing saved Thanskgiving
  18. Lately as the daily high is about 40 degrees and the ice is coming, I've been focusing on my other hobby, guitar. In the summer and spring, it's all about fishing.
  19. First and foremost I learned how un-fun daily thunderstorms are. I learned that sometimes I'm better off taking a smaller number of rods and focusing more on one area (as long as my intuition is correct on where the fish are).
  20. Happy Thanksgiving to you all
  21. It depends. One day I paddled 2 miles to a connecting lake, around the lake, targeted every laydown and back to camp and back. According to GPS I paddled around 12 miles that day. If you go 200 feet from the boat launch and anchor, not so much.
  22. Oh the pains of being a lefty. The world is very anti-left handed people. I had to learn to use right-handed scissors and by the time I first tried left-handed scissors, I was already used to right handed scissors. Fortunately for me, I can't reel with my left hand, so I use a right handed reel and just keep the rod in my left hand. I'm also glad I learned to play guitar right-handed - the left-handed guitars are both fairly hard to find and limited in options.
  23. I have the exact same setup. The Daiwa SV reels are great for pitching.
  24. I will second this. The Tatula 200 holds a little too much line for chatterbaits but so does the Curado K for that matter. The Tatula 150 should hold roughly as much line as the Curado K and would be a more practical choice, both both are good reels.
  25. I have a Steez SV on a Steez AGS 7'5" MH-H/F "Bottom contact" rod. It's fairly compact and very light and I have skipped with the brake on 6 because I forgot to turn them up and when I did get a birds nest, it was surprisingly not that bad. It's safe to say you will like that reel.
