Lowrance Mark-5x DSI Problems
If it is like the HDS's, the factory default is 78% .... needs to be turned down to about 60% to get a good image .... hope that helps

New Lews review
Here is what I can add. We received one of the first shipments. Since then, they have been selling like wildfire. Our only issue so far is that we can't get enough of them. One of the first ones we sold went to Canada ... to a guy who encounters large, mean, toothy critters. He has since ordered 5 more. We have another customer who tears down EVERY reel he purchases before it ever goes on a rod. He was quite impressed and said it is the first reel he has purchased that did not need additional lube right out of the box. Most have a minimal amount of lube so they feel good in the display case. We are pretty good friends with one of their Pro Staff. He is confident in their commitment to overall customer service .... like parts. Currently, they are dominating every price point in the store from a sales standpoint. With 4 models .... price points .... to choose from, there is something for everyone.

Veritas breakage issue...
We have sold probably 50 Veritas rods .... we have yet to have one come back. Many factors involved on rod breakage. How was it shipped? How was it stored? How was it handled in the tackle store? We pay VERY close attention to people in our store handling the rods.

Tru-Tungsten going under
Current word in the industry is that Pure Fishing is the most likely buyer .... if it gets bought. Yes, Strike King is introducing their own line. It will be in a similar price range as Tru-Tungsten.

Lowrance HDS advice?
The main differences between the 7 and 8 other than the screen size are the soft keys to access menu items easier and the ability to split the screen more ways than the 7. While the larger screen is awesome, so is the structure scan particularly for drops etc. I'd hate to lose my Structure scan and down scan. Yes, you can use your current shoot thru hull transducer. The 2 units will share waypoints through the ethernet cable or network. You will need a card for each unit. Hope some of this helps

A day at the dealership
Jim I guess that makes the labor rate for that electronics installation look pretty good !! Hope it's still working well for you.

Hummingbird vs Lowrance Sidescan?
Yes, I am "aware" of these things. And I am so glad you "thanked" me earlier for my participation in this thread. I will sleep better tonight knowing I have your blessing and now possess a small bit of your wisdom. I can hardly wait for your next utterance. Before speaking, try parking the condescencion in another time zone first, how 'bout it?

What are you using for cranking batteries in your bass boat?
I've been running a big Interstate for the last couple of years .... has worked real well. Runs 2 HDS systems, LSS1, and starts. Come on up here to Murray to the Interstate outlet.

Hummingbird vs Lowrance Sidescan?
Wayne .... through hundreds of installs and working with numerous guides and tour pros, we have yet to find anyone who cares about 2 imaging transducers 20 feet apart. Everyone wants to share waypoints between units ($30 cable for Lowrance vs. $130 Interlink for Hbird). Anyway, we sell and install both brands. Both companies make fine units. A person just needs to look at images, features, etc. and decide what's best for themselves. As for the price debate .... whatever the setup, in a typical $3000 to $6000 multiple unit install there isn't enough difference to base a decision solely on price. As far as quality .... yep .... Lowrance has had some issues. Hummingbird has had their times as well. Like I said in my intial response, pick a dealer who will help you if you have issues and don't worry about it.

Hummingbird vs Lowrance Sidescan?
Don't forget to add the interlink module to the Hbird ..... Really, this is a Chevy - Ford comparison .....
