Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I broke my favorite spinning rod (nothing fancy) and am looking to replace it. I wa originally going to replace it with an upgrade to the Daiwa Tatula Elite series of spinning rods. Out of nowhere the bait monkey started whispering "Steez" and now I am looking at a Steez for replacement. I know if this happens all of my rods will be upgraded to Steez before the end of the year. **Down BAITMONKEY! BAD!**

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Yes. Well aware of half hour to hour range. Omaha was 10-20 minute range.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Omaha had a lot of small lakes with surprisingly god bass fishing within a very small radius. I only moved down here to KC in June, and have so far found that KC doesn’t quite have the proximity of small lakes. On the other hand, if you drive a little further you are a lot closer to bigger reservoirs with lots of species options. Good luck.

GPS Trolling Motor vs Power Poles
Depends on how you fish. For me, when I am fishing water shallow enough for my power poles to hold I am typically moving fast making 1-2 casts per target. This, I don’t find the powerpoles all that useful for fishing (I have 8’ Blades). I do however find them very useful for retrieving expensive lures that are snagged and for docking the boat at the courtesy ramp. I also find it useful to deploy them when I hook into a fish in shallow water when it’s very windy. I can count on one hand the number of fish I’ve caught with the powerpoles deployed. The anchor function on the other hand I use for fishing offshore targets. Now that I have it I will never go back. I have caught countless fish that I attributed to being able to hit the anchor button and work a brush pile, rock pile or steep bank. If I had to choose one or the other it would be hands down the anchor function on the trolling motor.

Retiring a rod
After thousands of fish, the last thing my dad gave me, a Fenwick Venture 702 spinning rod finally broke after high sticking a bite (didn't end up catching the fish). This rod has infinite sentimental value and I am looking for ideas on how to make a display out of it. I was thinking of gluing it back together and making a wood backing for it and then hanging it up in my office or garage. Anyone done something similar or have other ideas/pictures of ways they have a retired a rod?

Panoptix 360?
Lots of people do it. Use the 360 to find the target then use the live scope to get a sense of what’s on it.

Is it "Jerkbait time" yet or is it still too early?
I have experienced that a jerkbait can work well all year around. In my experience it’s the cooler times that jerkbaits start to outperform other baits. Probably a combination of other baits not seeming as interesting and possibly the jerkbait becoming more interesting.

Actual weight capacity of the Bass Raider 10e? Confused...
I don’t know. Maybe they mean total weight including the boat. But the coast guard approval will be the final say for any legal or insurance matter.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Been kinda quiet in here. Heat just getting to everyone? I’ve been working a ton and my boat has been out of commission. Looks like some cooler weather for the next couple weeks and already seeing leaves starting to change and some on the ground. I personally have never had much luck in the fall. Hoping that will change this year.

Actual weight capacity of the Bass Raider 10e? Confused...
420 lbs is the limit. What comprises that limit does not matter. The coast guard sticker has the final say for legal and insurance purposes.

Is this good for my first baitcaster setup?
Sounds like the Daiwa rod you are looking at is specifically designed for crankbaits. While it will do that very well, you will likely find it not to do a very good job with bottom contact baits. If I were restricted to one setup to do multiple tasks, I would not choose a glass rod.

Smoking fast Daiwa customer service.
I had a guide break on a rod and they sent a replacement with no questions asked. I have also e-nailed them a couple times with questions/suggestions and they have always promptly replied. I am a fan.

You can only use one fishing line type all your life...
For most of my life, I thought Omniflex Mono was the only option and caught thousands of fish and lol’d at the guys spending $20+ per spool of anything else. Not sure when I got brainwashed into thinking otherwise.

embarrassing boating stories
Backed in with the transom straps still attach and took ~15 minutes trying to get the boat to float off of the trailer before I realized. Tinkered with the motor and things for about an hour because it wouldn’t start. Kill switch was flipped off.

How to trigger Follower Bass Big Swim Bait/ Glide Bait?
Take your hand off of the reel. I have had a similar experience as you have described with lots of followers up until recently. I was BS’ing with a guy on a dock and I started point at something and got slammed. After that I have started letting the bait soak mid retrieve and started putting fish in the boat much more frequently.

Careers In The Bass Fishing Industry
Go to graduate school and study basic science. Academic and industry research scientists have a pretty good gig as far as flexibility and pay. I have a few friends that now work as consultants for Berkley based on their work with taste receptors. Most of their research and goals weren’t originally related to fishing and they personally don’t have an interest in fishing per se. And if the fishing industry doesn’t work out you have a valuable skill/training.

Thinking of new trolling motor
My dad has that exact trolling motor on a Tracker 175 TXW. It comes out of the water with only moderate waves. The Tracker aluminum boats sit way up on the water in the front. Also, he bought the wireless foot pedal for it and all he ever does is curse the thing. The wireless foot pedal he has is junk and not very responsive and also does things long delayed and sometimes erratically. From my understanding he is not the only one with that issue. He has no problem with the hand held remote, but good luck using a handheld remote and trying to make casts in the wind.

Spare prop
I live on the other side of the fence ok this one. Buy the best prop you can and either make your current the spare, or when the current goes, you’ll have a true replacement ready.

Question about selling
I’d just sell it when it’s for sale. Either sell it now to the interested buyer or wait and risk not selling it later. I wouldn’t mess around with deposits and holds or such with private party sales.
