  1. I was given 2 packs of 5" Yamamoto Double Tail Hula Grubs to play around with. What should I try to fish them on and in what size?
  2. I guess I keep coming back to this - What has the higher likelihood? That I catch more fish because I MAY see subtle changes to my line more often that in turn MIGHT result in recognizing a soft bite or take on the NEEDLESS risk that a more "abnormal" line color could spook a fish? Does a more visible line spook a fish? Who can say? At this point it just seems like I would be risking more than I would be gaining if I did this.
  3. Main reason I do not want to is the time it takes. A lot of times I am fishing with my 2 kids I only have so much time to fish versus doing stuff for them. If I have to put on another lure each time, retie a leader here and there I will spend all my time doing that. No thanks.
  4. Well I bought these 3 today. Weird thing is all 3 were in factory sealed packaging and one had a split ring on the top of the bait and the other two did not. I assume they are supposed to have one and I do not want to tie directly to the body of the lure, correct?
  5. 3/4 oz just seemed heavy to me but you guys know a lot more than I ever will so I guess I'll roll with it LOL
  6. ....with no leader can I do a hi-vis braid or am I asking for trouble? Gonna mostly do finesse stuff, wacky rigs and some vertical jig spooning with it. Read a lot of past posts and opinions were all over the place.
  7. NICE CATCH!! I am leaning towards the 5XD, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a better option to pair up with a 6XD. Got a lot of 3XDs and 6XDs and want something to fill in that gap. Just seems like the 5XD isn't quite in the middle but may be the best bet? That or the series 5 I would guess.
  8. Does the series 5 have a different "action" or movement compared to the 5XD?
  9. With as heavy as a 3/4 oz would be does it still get much "flutter" as it falls or just drop like a stone?
  10. I guess I was thinking if the deepest I would use was a 6XD and I was certainly going to use a 3XD that I wanted something that fit right in the middle. It just seems like the depth difference between the 5XD and 6XD is minimal. Doesn't the series 5 also have a different wobble or action then the 5XD?
  11. I was kind of leaning towards the 5XD and the 6XD. Then I was thinking if the 6XD was the deepest I would go with and the 3XD was the lowest I should try to find something right in the middle of those two. That is kind of what lead me to looking at the series 5. Then I started thinking maybe I should go with a 5XD and an 8XD. To joy/pain of the off season and over analyzing tackle concerns because you can't be in the water LOL
  12. Talked to a buddy of mine that works there. He told me tonight about a few of the crazy sales they are having.
  13. I am really looking hard at these short shank Gammy round Magic eye trebles you suggested. I certainly understand and like the idea of being able to upgrade the size of the hooks but on deeper cranks like this are there reasons why you would NOT want to do this? Is there a reason why a standard shank hook like the Owner ST-36 make more sense?
  14. I have to first off say I am a big fan of Strike King crank baits and so for now I am kind of looking to stick with this brand. I already have a lot of 3XDs (10-11 feet deep) and am looking to stretch out deeper with my crank bait fishing. Bought a 7'6" glass composite crank rod and plan on running Seagar Invizx on my 5:4 Orra Winch. My budget won't allow me to just go out and buy everything under the sun and see what works so I have to be somewhat smart about what I buy and research the specs on them. I had WAY too much free time tonight and made this spread sheet to look at the sizes and depth of these SK cranks. I am looking to buy two different models that will best cover the water columns between my 3XDs and say 20 feet deep. The BIGGEST I would consider would be an 8XD. So does that mean maybe some 5XDs and some 8XDs? Or maybe some Series 5 and some 6XDs? But in this scenario while a bigger body does a Series 5 run at too similar a depth than a 3XD to make it a wise purchase?
  15. I have always wondering why vertical jigging like this is done with spinning tackle and not a bait caster? I find it easier to haul a descent fish from aways down with a more powerful bait cast set up then spinning?
  16. I know a lot of times these a kind of baits are used in cold water situations but will they work year round?
  17. I was considering the Acme Kastmaster so thank you for recommending a specific size for this! As for a blade bait I was checking out the Binsky blade bait, would you say 3/4 for that as well?
  18. Tom, originally I was thinking 10 or 20 pound braid. Now I'm wondering with concerns about "wind knots", getting wrapped around the top guide and such a small braid digging into th eline on the spool of I should go with 30 perhaps. Again, mostly going to use it for finesse stuff like wacky rigging or T-rigging Senkos, shaky heads, possibly some straight down vertical fishing too. Thanks
  19. I guess I misstated my question. I am talking about pulling up on an area and on my graph seeing bass schooled up say 30 feet down and I want to vertical spoon with some spinning gear for them. I was asking what specific spoons would you guys recommend I check out for that?
  20. I have a 300 size spinning reel that I want to give braid a try one. I probably will be going with 832 Sufix braid for this. Mostly going to use it for finesse stuff like wacky rigging or T-rigging Senkos, shaky heads, possibly some straight down vertical fishing too. What pound test should I go with for this?
  21. Maybe already said it and I missed it but does anyone may short shank treble hooks (so I can up the size of my hooks) that are round bend style?
  22. Well the other day I picked up an all black Boo-Yah 3/4 oz spinner bait with a single black Colorado blade and was thinking I shouldn't have gotten one that big. Probably going to exchange it for a 1/2 oz. Now I just have to decide to stay with all black or get the one that was 95% black with the other 5% being red or blue skirt color LOL
  23. Sounds like the 200 or the 300 would both suffice. Sounds like the 200 would be slightly lighter and with the 300 would probably cast further having a bigger spool. Does that mean with a smaller spool the 200 would be able to cast "more accurately?" A buddy has one of each and owes me a favor and will give me either one I want so I want to make the right choice here. Again going to put 832 Sufix braid on this reel, not sure what test I will go with and could probably use some help with too. Mostly going to use it for finesse stuff like wacky rigging or T-rigging Senkos, shaky heads, possibly some straight down vertical fishing too.
  24. If I wanted to buy a few are there a specific makes and models you'd point me to? If LMB are the desired target is there a size I should stick to?
