  1. Well if I am looking for some round bends to upgrade on a 6XD any specific you'd point me towards?
  2. Then in what scenario would like a 3/4 oz be ideal? Obviously bigger spinnerbaits don't equal bigger fish. Just to get down in the water column faster?
  3. If you had to live with only one size for LMB would it be the 1/2 oz? What factors would make me do a 3/8 or up to a 3/4 oz?
  4. You mentioned it being a theory of yours, does that mean there is a more prevailing choice anglers make in this situation?
  5. What is the thought process with that? Not saying you are wrong, just asking the difference and why that would make sense for that lure?
  6. The 6XD and the 8XD get the same size hooks that I put on their 1/2 oz lipless cranks?
  7. I'm a big fan of these "short" TG76NP-BN Mustad hooks KVD slings to upgrade hooks on their red eye shad lipless and square bills. I am not getting into crank bait fishing and have bought some 5XD, 6XD and 8XD (I have a Strike King problem LOL) and want to upgrade the hooks on them. For these 3 lures what hook sizes do I need to buy for them?
  8. If an 8XD weighs one point three (had to spell it out so it didn't get blurred out, geez....) and my rod give a max weight of 1.25 is that OK or is that a line not to be crossed?
  9. I read or hear about guys graphing a group of fish down deep and throwing a "spoon" and getting the school all fired up and catching 30 fish. I run into fish down there like that and would like to give it a go. What are some specific examples of spoons to look at and at what size? What is the ideal rod/reel/line for this presentation?
  10. For the options that have "no maps" does that mean I would not be able to automatically pull up a pre-loaded map of a lake on my fish finder? BUT that I could get the same info at home on my laptop or through a website or an app on my phone while on the lake? If so any particular app or websites I should check out?
  11. Well it sounds like I may have to stick with what I've got. But humor me, if I HAD to go with a different rod what would you point me towards? I guess I would say I would want to stay around 7'6" and a max of $100. I would want to be able to throw a 6XD up to a 10XD on it. Would it be all graphite or would I be able to do a glass or composite or some sort?
  12. Silly question but do you spray it while it sits on the spool or pull out and bunch and spray it while it's laid out? Assuming so while on the spool do you just do a few short sprays or really douse the line heavily? Any risk of gunking up your reel or damaging it?
  13. Man I love stuff like this! Are there other website or apps on my phone I should try or you guys would recommend?
  14. Hey KC local guys, had a quick question for you about deep cranking locally. Was talking to Bluebasser86 in a different post about if I would ever use 10XDs that claim to go 25 feet deep in our local lakes. Being that this will be the first year I plan on hitting the water with electronics and haven't mapped and local bodies of water I guess I just have assumed there would be many spots that a 25 foot crank would come in handy. Am I wrong in that thinking? I mostly fish Jacomo, BS Lake, Longview, Smithville, Prairie Lee and such but I would like to also hit some spots a bit further south and also across the state line. For these lakes is a 10XD just out of the question? What about an 8XD?
  15. Hmm, well this may change things. I guess in my mind buying a dedicated deep crank bait rod meant that area and type of fishing was "handled or covered" in my mind and then when I came to this realization I was thinking this was a problem. Maybe it isn't and I will never go all the way to a 10XD. Are there rods I should consider that will handle something like a 5XD to a 10XD? I want to figure this out now to where I can still return this one if need be.
  16. Mostly stay here in the KC area. Jacomo, BS Lake, Longview, Smithville and such. Being this is the first year I plan on going in with electronics I have to think they all have some 30 foot pockets where fish will go down in when conditions call for it, right?
  17. Sorry in advance about the length of this but I am a noob to deep cranking and want to give it a go this year. Bought a 5.4 Orra Winch and am LEANING towards 12lb Seaguar Invizx fluero, unless someone can steer me in a better direction as a first time fluero user. Bought some 6XDs and foresaw a few 10XDs in my future. I went with the Lews David Fritts Perfect Crankbait 7'6" rod. A nice blend of glass, reasonably priced and from a well known brand. I am a fan of split grips and even went with their "Palmer" line that helps with wrist and arm fatigue. Yesterday I was looking at a few specs and I saw something alarming. I noticed my new rod gives a lure weight suggestion of 0.5 to 1.25 oz and that a 10XD has a weight of 1.92 oz. I talked to Lews today and they really suggested I not throw a 10XD on this rod and they suggested I look at their 7'11" model but the sheer logistics of carrying a rod like that around is too much for me. Really want to stay around 7'6" or so. 5XD 15' 5/8 oz 6XD 17' 1 oz 8XD 20' *** oz 10XD 25'+ 1.92 oz While an 8XD is right at the weight limit for this rod being that there is only a 3 foot deeper depth distance compared to the 6XD (a 10XD, though, has an 8 foot difference) I can't see myself going with 6XDs and 8XDs. It seems like 6XDs and 10XDs would cover things better. I am completely sure I wouldn't throw the 10XD all the time but if I am going to pay to have a dedicated deep crank bait rod I want to actually be able to use any deep crank I would ever want to use, within reason. So does this mean I need to go to a different rod? Based on my above criteria anything specific you would point me towards?
  18. At about how large do you see that start happening?
  19. I don't want to do that as I'm not ready to buy yet. But I wanted to start gathering knowledge so I know what to consider and what questions to ask. I've heard of this Navionics app but never tried it. What does it do, how does it work? Very expensive fee?
  20. I really need to add a spinning rod to my line up for applications that lend themselves to that setup. I am a big fan of Lews stuff and had a friend give me a new Lews Mach II spinning reel so I am thinking I am going to pair it up with one of their matching spinning rods. Problem is I am not sure what to get. Since I do not have a real specific technique in mind I guess I should go with an all-around setup. My 4 bait cast rods range from 7' to 7'6" so if I am going to do more finesse stuff with it I guess I should go with a rod shorter than that. 6'6" seems a little short so maybe I should go with the 6'9"? And probably a M versus a ML? It looks like they have an IM8 blank with traditional guides and an IM6 with their "American Tackle Air Wave" micro guides. If it matters I probably will throw some Sufix 832 braid on it. But would you agree with a 6'9" M and if so which blank/guide system?
  21. Need a line to put on my new deep crank set up. Was leaning towards 12# Seaguar Invizx fluero but would this be a good choice for this task? If so what test?
  22. I have read about more guys using this line. Never heard of it or tried it, what is the benefit of this line? What applications would it be good for?
  23. By the time you do all that half the fishing day is gone! GEEZ
  24. If I wanted to add mapping approximately how much more does that bump me up in price? Again, I know it is hard to say but a rough guess?
