  1. lefty here. always kicked a ball with my right foot. was a switch hitter in baseball. I have always used right hand reels. the first thing I do to a new spinning reel, is put the handle on the right side. everything else is done left handed.
  2. which speed demon pro rod do you have? I ordered the jig/worm rod to go with my speed demon pro reel. should be here tomorrow. The reel is currently on an old medium heavy fish eagle rod. The fish eagle is heavy and has a stiff tip. wanted something lighter with a little softer tip for dragging worms around.
  3. nice fish. I suggest carrying a scale or tape measure. I carry both. from my own experience, length of bass alone is not very accurate. to get an relatively accurate weight without a scale, you need a girth measurement also. then use a calculator like this one. there are several others on the net. https://www.garden-island.com/bass-weight-formula-calculator.htm in the last year I have caught: (these were all weighed and measured). 1: a 21 inch long 16 inch girth smallmouth that only weighed 4lb 7oz. 2: a 22 inch long 18 inch girth largemouth that weighed 6lb 4oz. . 3: a 22.5 inch long 19 inch girth largemouth that weighed 7lb.11oz. the 22 inch largemouth was the only fish that a length only chart was close.

mix colors a lot. honestly don't think there is a whole lot of difference between black or brown, but I will mix either with other colors for contrast. water clarity and forage base, usually determines which colors I mix. I will mix a brown or black jig with green pumpkin, pumpkinseed, watermelon, or black/blue trailer.
  5. looks like another solution, looking for a problem.
  6. actually on some of the small lakes around here there are too many baitfish. I think they help keep the population down
  7. don't know of any lake over 300 acres in our area, that does not have white bass. like mentioned above they live have different habits than black bass and do not seem to affect the population. One possible way they could hurt black bass, is if the lake has a shortage of baitfish. One good thing about whites, they are usually pretty aggressive. If the black bass are not biting, they can save the day with some action.
  8. I use power pro braid. braid is a lot thinner than mono. on a medium action bait caster I do not use anything smaller than 30lb. on a medium heavy I usually use 40lb or larger. 30lb power pro braid is the equivalent diameter of 8 lb mono. 40lb power pro braid is the same diameter as 10lb mono. From my own experience, if you use anything under 30lb braid on baitcasters, often times it digs into itself and you get backlashes. i save the smaller braided line for spinning tackle.
  9. I have used a few different styles, including the berkley line winder. over the years I have found it easier to hang the spool on a nail in the garage for baitcasters. I lay the spool on a counter for a spinning reel. If the line starts getting twisted I can flip the spool for a couple cranks. I can have the reels full, by the time I get out the line winders.
  10. Works about the same as any other ribbon tail worm. I probably use zoom worms more than any other brand. This time of year I mainly use the ol monster, which is a larger version of the utail.
  11. hate to see the havoc line disappear. go through a lot of pit bosses in a year. if they move it to the powerbait line, it will probably go up in price
  12. I have done well this summer with the 11 inch netball c mac. On a couple occasions when they did not want a ribbon tail, the magnum trick worm produced. Texas rigged both on a 5/0 ewg with a 1/4 or 5/16 oz. Weight. Plum or black have produced the most.
  13. ^^^. this if you are in a kayak I suggest you wear bright clothing. last fall I was cutting across a local tree filled reservoir at about 45 mph. it was a mild chop and I was driving into the sun. as I came around a corner there was a duck hunter all decked in camo, laying in a low free board camo kayak, in the middle of the channel. when I first spotted him, I was 20 yards away. I thought it was a log floating in the water. Luckily I avoided him. I don't know who was more shaken up. I turned around and apologized for nearly hitting him. he admitted that where he setup to hunt, was probably not the safest place.
  14. If he is going to live in your house, the least he could do is earn his keep.
  15. go to a local Bass Pro, Cabelas, Scheels, etc. and play with the display models. see which one you prefer. Hummingbird, Lowrance, and Garmin are all good brands. I have owned hummingbirds for 30 years, I stick with them, because It is what I am familiar with. I have 2 hummingbird helix 7's. both have GPS. bow has down imaging, console has side imaging.
  16. supposed to be in the mid 90s for the next week. not feeling winter here yet.
  17. fishing and furbearer
  18. Last year I converted a crappie fisherman to bass fishing. Gave him a Ned Rig and told him to cast it out and slowly reel it in. he caught several bass the first time out and now he is hooked.
  19. as @Bluebasser86 stated in another post it is usually a new member getting here from an internet search. ironically if a new member opens a new thread on a common subject, someone will often post a link to an older thread.
  20. i had one prototype that was given to me from Ned Kahde. Used it at a local lake that has smallmouth and largemouth Caught a few Small fish on it. Switched over to a TRD and caught a lot more. I think the TRD or 1/2 of a zinkerz has a better action. Personally I feel some of the new Ned Rig baits are made to catch fishermen instead of fish.
  21. if you want to stick with kast king , but want a faster gear ratio, try the speed demon pro. It is a step up from the original speed demon. I think mine was $89.00 on amazon. 9.3 to 1 gear ratio No centrifugal brake It casts a mile, and picks up line incredibly fast. just realized I responded, to a year old post. have to keep a closer eye on these old threads, getting revived.
  22. I retired at 53 years old to take care of my disabled wife. she needs 24 hour care. when I was working she had a caregiver in the home for 70-80 hours a week. before I retired I was lucky to fish twice a month. since I retired we are both healthier and have a lot more fun. I fish. She loves the casino. I now have a caregiver come 3 days a week, so I can fish and she gets a break from me. I now fish roughly 20 hours a week
  23. you can run the pedal just fine from a normal fishing chair. Walleye and crappie anglers do it all of the time. most bass fisherman prefer the standup seat.
  24. fish must not be biting
