  1. Do they tend to spiral more often than drop dead on the spot? Also, do these kind of batteries go on sale? I have not noticed them on The Latest Sale Thread.
  2. It's the kind that you have to check and fill with water occasionally that came with the boat. I never go out for more than 5 hours or so, but I go out most weekends through out the season, and I charge it until the "go fish" light comes on. For some reason Wednesday tends to be recharge night. If I don't go out the next weekend, I generally do not charge it again. I just skip a week.
  3. First time boat owner question here. I have an 80# Minn Kota Terrova on 40th Anniversary Basstracker that I got in 2018. Until recently, I feel like I have spent the majority of the time with the motor set to about 4.5-5.5 for 4 years. However, it feels like I am spending more time 5-6.5 since I started fishing this year in early March. It really is not a big deal since motor goes all the way up to 10. However, should I be worried about a steep fall off or will performance just dwindle slowly? Should I preemptively change the batteries now to avoid a rude awakening on the water where I have to trailer the boat and go home?
  4. ^^^This. I will add "keeping constant tension" should not be confused with needing a lot of tension. Braid has no stretch so wraps are either tight or they are not. When I was learning, I found that I was using too much tension while wrapping which led to fumbling with the leader line which in turn made it harder to make the wraps uniform. Also, the Rizzuto finish is cosmetic for over achievers. Don't get frustrated if it is too much of a pain. Just throw a couple more half hitches on and get on the water.
  5. I am getting older. My eyes sight is getting worse. I have gotten lazier and do not want to switch glasses to tie knots. Yeah, I use snaps and snap swivels. Mostly, I use snaps unless a bait is prone to helicoptering like big swimbaits. I will sometimes use a snap swivel to reduce line twist.
  6. The FG knot is smaller and stronger than most popular connection knots. However, while it is not impossible to learn, it is a hard knot to tie properly. Not only are there multiple steps, each step must be executed properly. Although this might sound like it is not worth the risk of using, it is not the case. By visually inspecting the knot after cinching, you can tell with certainty if the knot was tied properly. All the wraps constricted uniformly or they did not. There is no ambiguity. The main deterrent from using this knot is that it is a pain in the backside to learn. Even when you do learn it, it is kind tedious to tie. Also, it kind of hurts the hands to cinch down unless you buy a tool. With all that said, it is the only connection knot I use.
  7. I would love to hear how his personal pursuit of a world record bass evolved over the years with growth in knowledge about bass, changes in technology, and cultural changes of the sport. One of the main reasons I find Tom interesting is because of his commitment to a single goal. It is a devotion that I can not claim to have made about anything in my life beyond family. Even with family, it was not something that I started until my mid thirties, and it is more of a team activity.
  8. I use to use 6's as my all around gear ratio, but I have migrating to 7's. As of last season, all my 6's are reserved for baits I move with the reel like cranks, chatter baits, etc. I would tie anything to a 7. 8's are reserved for baits that are moved with the rod like t-rigs, jigs, etc.
  9. Vlad Putin is a well documented Shimano guy.
  10. Generally speaking, are these kind of baits something that you don't let sink and work in deeper water? These man made lakes have lots of deep water, and I am not sure where in the water column to start.
  11. I will be trying these in the Mother Lode Lakes in Central California. Savage Gear Pulse Tail 8". Jackall Gantarel Spro Swimbait 6" S-Waiver 8" https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Savage_Gear_8_Pulse_Tail_Trout_RTF_Swimbaits/descpage-SG8T.html https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Jackall_Gantarel_Swimbaits/descpage-JGAN.html https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/SPRO_Swimbait_6/descpage-SBBZ16.html https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/search-tackle.html?start=0&count=30&searchtext=S+Waiver
  12. I am going throw some 2-8 oz. baits this year. I bought a couple of each this winter, and a rod to throw them on. When do you reach for one over the other or does it even matter?
  13. I prefer blondes over brunettes. On some subconscious level, I think it is why I use a leader with my braid. I like the qualities of the braid at the root, but want the salon coloring for show. Plus, FG knots are sexy.
  14. Get him into bass fishing. He will want more money than he can earn before long. There is a characteristic about many of today's young people. They value experiences more than materials belongings and financial security. It is not a particular wise path from my perspective, but I would be lying if I said I did not see the appeal.
  15. This sounds like the most reasonable course of action. It sounds like you are looking to replace a rod, not a combo.
  16. For all the people advocating for the Gambler Burner Worm, what size do you use the most, 6" or 7"? I feel an impulse buy coming on.
  17. I am currently in the middle of this road. 2022 might be the year that makes or breaks me. I started dabbling in hard swimbaits and glides about 2 seasons ago, and I can tell, pure stubbornness is the only thing that is keeping them tied on. Another dead or even slow season, I might give it up forever.
  18. I have the 7' MH and 7' H. I like them. However, I feel like the MH & H are on the M side MH and MH side of H. Just my $0.02.
  19. MH fast casting for donkey rig. M fast spinning and casting for hard jerkbaits. The spinning rod is something new that I will be experimenting with in 2022.
  20. Nishine in the 20 pack? Why? Because they come in the 20 pack, and they claim the #0 can handle 26#. I have not tested it, but it passes the eye/feel test so I keep buying them.
  21. I do not feel that pros have much influence over my fishing. If it were not for Fantasy Fishing, I wouldn't even know who any current pros are beyond the Bill Dance-Jimmy Houston era with the exception of the ones that have a YouTube presence and taught me something after I got back into fishing in 2016. Even with Fantasy Fishing, it is more like roulette for me than me making informed decisions about who I am picking each week. I am just happy it breaks them down in A-E categories.
  22. Hey, how do we know its the KVD 300, AND NOT THE RED HOOKS!?!?!?!? ?
  23. I watched it after I found out that it was on HBOmax. It did not live up to the hype. With that said, it was still mediocre. Watch it if you have nothing else to do. My biggest criticism is that the movie was clearly made for the broadest possible audience instead of the cult following. The plot was not the greatest either, and it did not do a great job filling in the time period between this movie and the last. To go any further into depth, I would need to use spoilers.
  24. This is it in a nutshell. In addition to your personal finances, you have to write your own priorities and be responsible about it. At 22 there are a lot of immediate questions about opportunities and commitments that need to be answered in the next few years, some of them potentially life long. That is all on you.
