  1. Up here in the Canadian Shield, that could be one of several things. Sometimes it’s like everyone else mentioned, where running water has “cut” through the ground to create a depression, but most times around here that’d just be an “inside turn”. Simply put, it’s a cut, or depression in the rock, but it was made by about a mile thick slab of ice crawling across the land thousands of years ago.
  2. Like most people on here, I was taught it in school. Mine wasn’t great, but most people would be able to read it. Nowadays I hardly ever write by hand, other than signing my name on a form or cheque, and it’s pretty atrocious. When we sold, then bought our new house last year we had to sign the typical 300 page documents at the lawyers office, and I’m certain every single signature I signed was completely different. They haven’t taken the house back yet, so I guess it was good enough ?‍♂️.
  3. That’s a real shame, sorry to hear about this. I’ve never dealt with or heard of that sort of thing happening to a dog but I guess if you have enough pets over the years your bound to get some odd occurrences at times.
  4. 2019 Ram pulls my “tacklebox”, the Smokercraft. Third Ram I’ve owned and never had any issues with them. If I’m shore fishing or using the 12’ tinny, the rods are in the front seat.
  5. Took a walk down to my little stretch of backyard river this afternoon. All the bass in this little part are now tucked away in their weed beds for a long winters nap ?
  6. That’s cool! Tell him they’re a great band, and are much enjoyed way up here in the north ??
  7. Here’s mine
  8. Well, Marner did it! 19 games in a row with at least a point, a new record on a team that’s been around for over 100 years, that’s a heck of a record to get.
  9. I grew up in Bobby Orr’s hometown. Know quite a few of his family. I still play once a week with a bunch of guys, it’s nice to get out for a good sweat, and shoot the bull with the guys after. Being from where I am, the leafs are the team most follow around here. After a pretty slow start, they’re on fire right now, but I’m sure as usual they’ll probably choke come playoffs, but a guy can hope I guess. I’ll be watching tonight though to see if Mitch Marner can break the leafs consecutive games point streak. Be cool to see him break it.
  10. I don’t mind it at all, in fact, I pretty much fall asleep in the chair when I’m getting a cleaning. The hygienist is a very nice girl, but I almost wish she wouldn’t talk to me at all so I could just take a nap and let them do their thing, and wake me when it’s time to leave?.
  11. Shallow version has been my go to for several years now, I love the action on it for both big smallmouth all season, and very big pike in the spring and fall. Just got into the deeper version this year and it’s definitely one that I’m gonna get a few more colours of next year.
  12. Just bought my wife her “big Christmas gift” yesterday. She needed a new laptop for her job and her side job, so we bought a new MacBook Air. She’ll still get some small stuff at Christmas, but that took a pretty good bite out of the holiday budget ?
  13. Picked our first bowl of winter salad greens from the new greenhouse today. Several of the different lettuces are a bit slower growing, so in about 3 more weeks we’ll be able to fill this bowl with fresh greenery pretty much every single day throughout the winter.
  14. Actually most people just call them sleds, but I’ve heard them called several things ( including rotten piece of ….) ?
  15. I’ve been hearing about getting the snowmobile out for a few days now, ever since it started to snow. Finally I couldn’t take it anymore, pulled the sled out of the barn this afternoon, started it up and said “go”! As you can see by the second pic, he went?
  16. Our first real measurable amount came last night. About 6”. I told the kid to take the shovel from the barn over to the house, and “just for fun” he decided to clean a path there instead. Starting tonight and into Sunday, we could see up to 24”, I doubt he’ll be so quick to do a “fun shovel” after that ?
  17. Being a stonemason, and dealing with sharp pieces of stone every day, as well as metal ( chimneys and flashing etc.), it’s a rare day that there isn’t some blood flying. It’s never a huge amount for the most part, but I have dealt with pretty hardcore blood loss a few times and it wasn’t a major issue. Doesn’t mean I like it, or want to see it again, seeing how it’s supposed to stay inside us, but I don’t think I’m going to faint, or freak out about it too much.
  18. I’m like most people on this particular thread, that will try some newer stuff sometimes, but often stick with the tried and true confidence baits. It seems that many people I’ve seen that know every single make, model, colour, size, scent, flavour, etc. of every single new bait, rod, reel, line etc. etc. usually don’t catch squat. They spend so much darn time researching all the “latest, greatest” things that they don’t actually spend time learning about the FISH, and that’s what’s most important in my opinion. Several times I’ve come up behind a couple young guys in a brand new fully loaded rig with 4000lbs of tackle in it, and the finest fishing apparel, and proceeded to pound on the fish that they didn’t even touch, because even though they had all the latest gear, they didn’t have a clue what they were actually doing.
  19. Yeah, we’re way further south than quite a bit of the states. I’m in what you would say is central Ontario, quite a bit of a drive from true “northern Canada”. It’s been unseasonably warm here up until today, and looks like it’s supposed to be more like traditional November weather now, at least for as far as the forecast goes. Doesn’t mean the boats going to bed just yet, I don’t usually winterize it until I can’t launch due to ice, and that may be into December depending on how the weather goes. Yesterday the water was still 51 deg, so there’s a bit to go yet before it freezes.
  20. With the summer like conditions here yesterday ( at least for November in our neck of the woods), my buddy and I said screw it to work ( we’re both self employed), and enjoyed what may be the last warm day to get on the water. We hit my home lake for a few hours in the afternoon, caught about 15 fat, dark brown smallmouth and one half decent pike, and lost a couple big fish. If this ends up being the last trip of the season for me, it as a good way to go out.
  21. Funny you mention that, when my wife bakes ten thousand pounds of Christmas cookies etc. ( not that I’m complaining at all), she often uses the screened porch to cool everything off. Most Christmases, it’s usually cold enough that she just leaves them all out there for a week or two as we munch away at them, they stay froze pretty well out there on a table, and we just bring in some as needed, or when it’s time to package up a bunch to send off with friends/family.
  22. As unfortunate as it seems, guess it’s better than him having a “taste” for your rods. That could get expensive quick!
  23. Our rifle season starts Monday. I’ll be heading to the camp Sunday afternoon to spend a few days in the bush with friends and family. Gonna be great weather here for it, can’t wait!
  24. That reminds me of a time we came across this one. It’s like they were telling the humans “ this is our bay, come in here with your canoes and you won’t be leaving in one piece” ?
  25. We planted the first of our winter crops in the new greenhouse a couple weeks ago. They are coming up quite nicely! First pic is peas, next pics are a mix of lettuces and salad greens. It’ll be nice to go out in the middle of winter when it’s -30 outside with 3’ of snow, and get a bowl full of fresh greens.
