  1. My wife went to their distillery in Scotland a couple years ago when she was there on vacation with friends. She said it was a “wonderful place”, and they had a pretty good afternoon of “taste testing”. Brought a couple bottles back, I even got a nice shirt from them as well ?.
  2. They sure do! And if they’re anything like the rest of the Maxscent stuff, they’ll be like crack for smallies.
  3. Yeah that one was a tiger. One lake I fish has quite a few of them.
  4. Strike King Burner spinnerbait, 1/2oz white with double willow one silver/one gold blade. Nothing like a big ole smallmouth just clobbering a spinnerbait and darn near tearing the rod out of you hands!
  5. Same here as most guys, especially in and around any Great Lake. Fishing on Georgian Bay, you never know what your gonna catch. I’ve caught muskie, pike, several species of trout, different panfish, walleye and a few other assorted critters.
  6. Even before all this covid nonsense started, I was never a big party guy, but the way things are going right now you couldn’t pay me enough to cram into to some house with a whole bunch of random people. Most years my wife and I are in bed long before midnight, and it’s just another day for us. Here’s to a smoother year for everyone though ??.
  7. But didn’t you just get the big moderator job on here? Should be rolling in dough with that kind of a promotion ?. I see a Basscat Jaguar with a 400hp in the near future!
  8. That’s awesome! Although I might need a change of underwear if that went under my boat ?
  9. So far we only have enough snow for a quick trip around the field, but soon enough it’ll get a good workout. I remember turning 12 and getting my snowmobile licence, and with it a touch more freedom and responsibility. When he saw it in the back of the truck this morning, he thought it was my sled, took a minute for him to figure out it was his ?.
  10. They’re about the only jerkbait I throw anymore. I catch a ton of big smallies on them, and just as many big pike in the spring and fall too. The ones I use have tons of action. Never had a “dull” one, but I guess there could be one that didn’t get made right and screws up.
  11. Ours was a touch cooler than yours ?
  12. The wife and I are heading to get our boosters tomorrow. I don’t hang around many people at all ( work by myself every day), but I’m not taking any chances with the way cases have skyrocketed lately. It’s a pretty simple thing to do to help out both ourselves and others around us.
  13. I’ve caught more big smallmouth on a spinnerbait than all other baits combined over the years. I fish gin clear Georgian Bay, and lake Simcoe, and many smaller inland lakes all around central Ontario, from clear to heavily stained, and time and again the spinnerbait has produced a lot of the better fish for me. I’m like most guys, in that I use them at a good clip. Usually 1/2-3/4oz, always tandem willow, and 90% of the time it’s some sort of white, white/chartreuse, or metallic colour skirt. As for blades, in clear water and sunny conditions, mainly some combination of silver and gold, and I’ve had great success on dark, cloudy days or in slightly stained water with painted blades ( usually white or chartreuse). They'll work in flat calm water on some days, but often are better when there’s a bit of a chop on the surface, but some of my best days are spent burning one about as fast as I can reel, and casting off a bow that I can hardly stand up in, cause the waves are so big. On those days, if your on the right lake, be prepared to have your rod tore right out of your hands ?.
  14. Got you beat by 6 days! Most days I still feel 20 or so, but as a lifelong stonemason, there’s a few mornings where I feel a touch older than 42, especially after I play hockey ?.
  15. No tornadoes here, thank goodness, but the way the wind was howling at 2:00 this morning I thought I’d have at least some shingles scattered across the yard. Luckily all was still attached to where it was supposed to be, and miraculously we didn’t even lose power. It was so warm here yesterday that I worked outside all day in a T-shirt. For mid December in central Ontario, that is a very rare day indeed!
  16. Congrats! Now your gonna have to take more time off fishing so you can keep all of us knuckleheads in line though.
  17. Well, between the crazy winds ( that are still blowing pretty good even this evening), and the even crazier warm temps we had the last couple days, any smaller lakes around here that had ice are once again ice free. Guess you could call that the first “ice out” of the year ?‍♂️.
  18. Blowing like crazy across our field right now. I’m amazed our power hasn’t gone out yet. This is by far the windiest December I can remember in a long time around here. Glad I bought a new generator a couple weeks ago.
  19. This is exactly how I am. I’ve thought about recording some info over the years, but I hate paperwork ?. Much like you, I also can remember many details about past trips. It’s funny how the brain works, sometimes I can’t remember work or family stuff that happened a week or two ago, but if I’m near a lake I’ve fished in the past, I can pinpoint tons of spots where I’ve caught fish, and often what bait they were on.
  20. I got my first fly rod when I was about 13 or so. Used to ride my bike to the lake behind our house and there was a section of shoreline with flat, sloping rock and no trees. That is an excellent spot to learn how to cast without worrying about snagging trees on the back cast. Used to go there all the time in the summer after supper, and absolutely hammer the smallmouth on little popper flys as the sun was going down. It was a blast. I haven’t taken the fly rod out in a couple years now, but maybe this year I’ll dig it out and fling a few poppers around ( especially since we’ve recently moved back to the shore of that same lake).
  21. It’s not a crankbait, but since you’re talking about smallmouth fishing, I can tell you with great certainty that this guy can absolutely hammer them when the water is cool in the spring and fall, and even in the heat of summer on some lakes I’ve fished.
  22. I hope your joking with a question like that?. It gets cold in the winter, but it’s not like it’s the North Pole, and everything comes by dog sled. Believe it or not, there’s actually tractor trailers full of produce on the highways every day, even way up here ?.
  23. Some healthy looking trout in there. The water is pretty cool coloured too.
  24. Slept in too late to see the big eclipse this morning ( was about 4 am here), but I got some nice pics when I did get up. With the snow on the field, the first pic is so bright it looks like the sun, but it was at 6:20. The second pic is an hour later, just as the moon was setting.
  25. It begins. Could see up to 6” by tomorrow. Guess I’ll put away the snorkel and swim trunks for the year ?.
