  1. That buck looks like he’s been into the sauce since early in the morning. Gonna have a hangover tomorrow ?
  2. You guys have it easy, up here our bass season ( for most of the province in the south at least), doesn’t start until either the third or fourth Saturday in June, depending on where you are. No catch and release season either. It’s not the end of the world, as we have a tremendous amount of other species in season, and the spring monster pike fishing can be phenomenal, but still ?.
  3. I’ve been on here a few years now. I’m also on a couple other fishing sites both national ones and more local to me, and this one is about my favourite. Really feels like one big family here. I’ve learned quite a few things and maybe helped a couple people out over the years. It’s a nice place to visit and get away from work, and life’s other non fun deals. Hope everyone has a better 2021, and we all get to blab about our fishing ( or whatever else), on here as often as we can.
  4. There is no such thing as a bad pie, and my wife can make some dandy’s, but my absolute favourite is her homemade rhubarb ( fresh from our backyard) sour cream pie with a sweet crumble on top. When I see our rhubarb patch starting to pop out of the ground in the spring, I want to put huge grow lights overtop of it to speed it up so I can get more of that fantastic dessert! ?
  5. Sometimes in the spring we’ll keep a couple smaller pike, but nowadays it’s mostly trout and salmon from Georgian Bay. Nothing tastier than a fresh fish out of the deep, cold, blue water of the bay.
  6. Big ole snowshoes on that one!
  7. A-Jay mentioned metal roofs and how the snow slides off them. They are great for a garage or simple gable end roof that has absolutely no pipes, hydro masts or chimneys sticking out of them. I have lost count of the number of chimneys I’ve had to replace over the years from the snow sliding and tearing them completely off the roof. I’ve seen 2’ x2’ brick chimneys torn clean off at the roof before, leaving a nice open hole for all the snow and rain to come in until May when the owner first comes back up to their cottage to find the entire living room ruined by water damage. I’ll take an asphalt roof, shovel and a good workout any day over that mess for my own home.
  8. Haven't noticed any posts on here from him lately. I hope he’s still plugging along. If your out there reading any of these still, remember we’re all thinking about you on here and wish you the best.
  9. For some fish I like a good tartar sauce, but often I’ll just have a splash of lemon juice and maybe a bit of butter, and salt and pepper.
  10. Works in a pinch, especially if your way offshore. I’ve been on the big water fishing for salmon several times where it was so rough that it was too dangerous to even try to stand and go over the side, so we used the front livewell on our knees and just gave it a flush.
  11. Any Costas I’ve bought come with a case and cleaning cloth. I’m partial to the blue mirror 580g. I like the glass better as it seems to hold up very well compared to plastic as far as scratches go. I have one pair in the boat and a pair in the truck, the truck pair get used all the time and still are 100% scratch free ( and I’m a stonemason so there’s often some dust around me ?). I like the blue mirror ones, but maybe that’s because most of the lakes I fish are gin clear, they work very well for keeping bright sun out of my eyes and for seeing into the water.
  12. Yeah, that same system is heading straight towards us as well, guess it’ll be a couple hours after it hits you guys. We still have a little bit of old, crusty snow in the bush but it’s been pretty dry otherwise. Sounds like it’s gonna start to look a bit more “seasonal” around here now.
  13. Mines pretty simple. I like to fish for bass, and compared to quite a few others on here, I’m pretty far North on the map.
  14. Congrats on getting out again! That right there is a pretty fantastic overrun as well. Looks like the kind where you just shove that one back in the rod box to deal with at a later date ?.
  15. That’s just a natural gas plant. You should capture it, maybe you can get @12poundbass to help run an underground line into town and you could sell it to heat homes for the winter.
  16. The view from my “lunchroom” today. I was going to go up on a 12:12 pitch roof to install a chimney this afternoon, but with the crazy winds and the amount of snow we were getting, I decided this afternoon would be better for paperwork in my nice warm office instead. There’s always tomorrow, or the next day, or heck, even the day after that depending on how long this snow keeps falling ?
  17. December 1st, and it looks like old man winter has showed up right on schedule ?. This is my driveway when I got home from work this morning, and it’s still coming down.
  18. That’s too bad, he was a heck of a fisherman and I sure learned a lot of things from his teachings over the years. I agree with the post above about their critical concepts books. I’ve had those on the shelf for years, and still grab them and give them a read every now and again.
  19. 7x7 in black is what I use. How often it needs changed depends on how many and what size fish your catching, and what baits. Jerkbaits seem to get hit from the side a lot for me so they’ll get kinked up a bit more than a swimbait , but only in smaller pike, or if they hit like the swimbait fish in pic #2. A big one will often inhale a swimbait and often a jerkbait as well, quite often you’ll need to retie after catching a real big one, but that’s a small price to pay for landing these guys.
  20. I use this stuff all the time now for pike. Alberto knot to attach it to my main line, and usually a clinch knot to the lure. I’ve caught lots of fish up to and over 40”, and never once had a knot at either end come open.
  21. Like most people on here that’ve fished a long time, I have a bunch of interesting stories, but here’s just one.Years ago I was muskie fishing by myself in the Moon River Basin of Georgian Bay, in October. I was casting a saddle between two islands with a big buck tail spinner. About 30yds behind me over open water, I heard a big splash. Turned around just in time to see the absolute largest fish tail I’ve ever seen in my life. It honestly looked like a shark tail it was so huge. It just waved above the water for a second or two and was gone, I cast to it for several minutes but couldn’t get a follow. I figure it could’ve been one of three species, either a giant muskie, carp, or a sturgeon. All three can get to huge sizes out there ( Canadian record 65lb muskie was caught about a mile from where I was fishing). Whatever it was, it was well over that size.
  22. I tried to right click on it, but it won’t let me remove it, only move it instead. Of course, when I type in my location, it only seems to come up with similar spelled places that are all in the states, and nothing from Canada. Oh well, I’m not real concerned about it, as long as the forums keep working for me I’m all good.
  23. I’ve noticed quite a few member map additions in the last couple of days, and just for the heck of it I checked mine, and it says I’m in Minnesota instead of Parry Sound, in Ontario. Guess there’s a glitch, maybe that’s why everyone is adding a new location, because theirs got changed as well. I can’t seem to change it back myself, perhaps I’m doing it wrong? ?‍♂️
  24. Big ole pot of venison stew’s been going in the slow cooker all day, and a loaf of the wife’s sourdough bread fresh out of the oven. I know both of my Grandfathers would be smiling at this meal, and asking for seconds!
