  1. Hiring a guide is the best thing you can do to move up the learning curve. Your opportunity with the guy you met sounds great to me. 8-)
  2. Did you know Rage Tail is contagious? Yep, ya get a little on you and it starts growing like kudzu! 8-)
  3. Hmm... I might have to change my thinking, I would have sworn both you and GMAN advised me NOT to trim my jig skirts or weedguard a few years ago. Must be that Alzheimers kicking in.
  4. Well, you guys know that, but the company is selling the sizzle! Put salt on food and it tastes better, right? Man, I guess that's what's behind the packaging, what else could it be? 8-)
  5. Great post! Nice fish and pics, too! CONGRATULATIONS! 8-)
  6. I keep most of the plastics I actually fish in a 3600. It includes i/2 a sextion for weights, the other for hooks. Then one section for Kut-Tail, one for Senkos, one for Gitzits and Kreatures and another for a mixture of Larew Salty Ring Worms and Roboworms. Many have been kept there for years! Some "reserves" are kept in my tackle bag others are stored in my fishing room. All reserves are in original bags at room temperature and in the dark. Although I can't seem to resist buying a new bag of something now and then, many of my soft plastics are 5 years old and some may be 10 or 12. Apparantly, soft plastics never age. 8-)
  7. The five day forecast is clear with -0- chance of rain. Highs are expected to be 97-99, 80% humidity and a heat index of 105-115. I'm sure the weathermen are lying, we will hit 100 this week!
  8. Obviously, you don't have a clue how to use them. Like mastering nearly all equipment, a little instruction combined with a lot of practice is required.
  9. Catch smallmouth in gin clear water. 8-)
  10. I think a lot of guys trim the guard, but I don't. The weed guard sure helps to reduce hang-ups, but it doesn't seem to interfere with hook-ups. Some guys trim the skirts, too, but I don't. 8-)
  11. Hmm... Although the Senko is a fish catching machine, it's really not designed to be fished fast. If you are fishing bottom structure, the Rage Tail 7" Anaconda or GYCB 6 1/2" Kut-Tail Khuna. If you are fishing cover, especially weeds and grass, the Swimming Senko, Fat Ika and Kreature are the ticket: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1180909581 The attention span for a nine year old is an issue. The point is, "moving lures" keep kids active and these baits catch fish! I think you both will have fun with these suggestions. Regarding the rod & reel: Zebco combination with a "in-house" rod. For cheap: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat400024&id=0029842119398a&navCount=1&podId=0029842&parentId=cat400024&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IK&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true For a little more:http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat400024_TGP&id=0042942121794a&navCount=3&podId=0042942&parentId=cat400024&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IK&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true Shop around, the big retailers have these kind of combos on sale, all the time. 8-)
  12. CONGRATULATIONS!
  13. We have several members that fish Kentucky Lake regularly. If they aren't fishing the tournament, you should get a few replies. Good luck! 8-)
  14. Huge producer, great value and this is how they should be rigged: http://www.***/articles/senko-gary.shtml 8-)
  15. I have lost two on hang-ups, but otherwise have yet to wear out an Anaconda. I'm rigging a Gamakatsu 5/0 Offset Round Bend: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0030842113363a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntk=Products&QueryText=gamakatsu+hooks&sort=all&Go.y=8&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&Go.x=19&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1 8-)
  16. Start saving some money from working, your birthday and Christmas. To jump start your "catching", hire a guide for a day. Not just any guide, you need to do some research and get some recommendations. Talk with the guide BEFORE going out so he understands your dilemma. Otherwise, here's the GUARANTEE: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1158577137 8-)
  17. I hope Team Pampers takes this thread seriously. For the younger guys, NOW is the time to protect your skin. "Later" might be too late. 8-)
  18. Try the Rage Tail Lobster, too! This was The Bomb at Kentucky Lake last April and a lot of people, especially on this Forum, have been having a lot of success with the Lobster. 8-)
  19. How's that new rod working out? 8-)
  20. roadwarrior replied to champaz's topic in Introductions
    Welcome aboard! 8-)
  21. Congratulations! 8-)
  22. ;D ;D ;D Rating: DEAD SOLID TEN! 8-)
  23. Really? I don't know why baitcaster vs spinning gear pops up so often, but either type of equipment will work just fine. Some "prefer" one over the other for certain techniques, but that doesn't mean it's "better". BTW, My rig for all unweighted soft plastics is a St. Croix Legend Elite, ES70MF/ Stella 2500FB/ Ultra Soft #6. Most of the time I fish a Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook. My hook-up ratio is north of 95% and once hooked-up, my landing ratio is significantly higher. 8-)
  24. We have a lot of Floridians and many are very active participants. I hope you will be, too! 8-)
