Been there, done that. My worst ever was on a very long cast into grass. The bass struck my Senko as soon as it hit the water. I used my very best Bill Dance hook-set to stick that pig at distance, but I hadn't clicked over yet... I swear, my line looked just like fresh cotton candy! :

The tail of the Swimming Senko never tears, the bait tears around the hook contact, both front and middle. The Swimming Senko is most effective in and around cover, especially grasses. This is a bait for active bass. Although many guys have great luck fishing the bait weightless, Gary Yamamoto suggests a 1/4 oz screw-in weight to maximize tail action. The Senko is an entirely different animal that has been discussed to death, so I'll stop here. 8-)

Well, it depends where you are fishing. I am killin' 'em on my ponds, fishing from the bank. This involves extremely long casts to reach structure and move the jig along the structure. 99% of my bites are on the bottom or when being moved off the bottom, rarely on the drop. Profile and size is very important right now in order to have the tailer visible above the gunk on the pond floor. With bigger trailers, the slightest movement impacts the action of the bait. This is the key to the success I have been having. 8-)

When I first started fishing Mattlures Baby Bass I lost several fish. Mattlures gave me a tip which I am going to share with you: Landing bass on a swimbait does NOT involve "playing" the fish. You need the right gear so that when you hook-up, you bring the fish to you, right now! Big bass, huge bass, are landed immediately, not after a 5-10 minute fight. 8-)

Although I use a variety of trailers, the Net Bait Baby Paca Craw is hard to beat. I'm fishing a drop on the "Secret Pond" about 15 yards off the bank. I move the bait slowly like a crawdad moving over a rock. Over the past three weeks, I have caught a number of nice bass, so many that I have not been fishing soft plastics at all. 8-)

No. You should spend some time in an empty school or church parking lot and practice backing up. I use my mirrors, but a lot of guys turn sideways so they are looking back. Either way, you need to just get out and practice. Once you "get it" you got it! 8-)

They will catch a few when any other lure would work better. Instead of wasting time and money on the Banjo Minnow, try a Slug-Go or fluke. 8-)

No. The quality of the drag on your reel comes into play, particularly when a big smallmouth sees the boat! Every big brown fish I have ever caught has always made a second run at the boat. Without a properly set drag, that fish will be lost.

George Welcome... Let's get technical, as there are in fact reasons, not just some lame holdover from days past that put the handles where they are. What will move the fish during retrieval is placed to the strong hand! A baitcast is designed to be used as a winch, so it is the reel that retrieves the fish. Hence if you are right handed the handle is in your right hand. A spinning reel is designed to pick up unloaded or loose line, not retrieve the fish. Hence it is the rod that does the retrieval, so it is the rod that is in your strong hand. If you are right handed then the pole goes in the right hand.
