  1. I resent that. Making a broad general assumption as that is childish and inmature. C'mon, that's what the laughing smiley is about... Regarding the line. I wasn't going to post...again! I have heard that the "New" formula Vanish is better than the old. The same comments have been made about the "New" Sensation. Unfortunately I used both of the "old" and will NEVER try the new... Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me. >
  2. Great post! There are many ways to "skin a cat"! For me, the 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu or XPoint Offset Worm Hook is the ticket, but you have found something that works better for you. Perhaps this suggestion will help others, too. 8-)
  3. Welcome aboard! Start by reading the "Fishing Articles" at the top of the page, especially the "Beginners" section. Then go back over 20 pages of the most recent threads in both "Tackle" and "Rods, Reels, Line, Etc." All of your questions have been answered several times in the last few weeks. Here are a few threads to get you started: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1182371999 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1196114229 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1180501296 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1199915688 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1143177139 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1158577137 8-)
  4. A few months ago I found a deal on a 1 lb spool of Yo-Zuri Hybrid #15. I have been experimenting with this on most of my baitcasters and found it to be suitable for heavier lures. With an application or two of the KVD Line & Lure Conditioner, the Line is much more mangeable. I will probably stick with the #15 original Hybrid on my dedicated jig rod and swimbait rig. However, for other applications and techniques, I have a strong preference for #12 Hybrid Ultra Soft. This is what I will continue to recommend to everyone for baitcasting. On your spinning tackle, try #6 Hubrid Ultra Soft. Treat it with KVD and you will virtually eliminate all memory! This line is the bomb! I don't think there is a better choice for spinning reels. If you think you're up to it, I like #4, too. I have never been broken off by a fish using any of these lines. Now, one more comment: I fish the gin clear waters of the White River and Bull Shoals and will be making a trip there in a couple of weeks. For this trip I will be using orginal Hybrid #4 (8.5 lb test). In clear water this line is invisible and I believe using it results in more bites. #4, when treated with KVD Lure & Line Conditioner, has virtually no memory and handles nearly as well as Ultra Soft. Here are some comments on color selection from a thread I responded to yesterday: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1211488602/2#2 8-)
  5. Welcome aboard! This should help: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1189609782 8-)
  6. As an "all-around" baitcaster, the Avid AC66MF is what I have and would recommend, especially for the specific purposes you mentioned. Although the blank is rated Fast Action, the tip is soft. This is a great rod for working topwater lures and jerkbaits. 8-)
  7. BTW or btw: "by the way" 8-)
  8. 7 lbs? Man, I say leave her alone on the nest and go after a big bass. 8-)
  9. Oooh... It doesn't have to be black... "Dark" is my favorite color... 8-)
  10. Not a true #4 (.090" diameter, 8.5 lb test), but I caught these on #4 Yo-Zuri: <------------------------------- As far as size goes, set your drag appropriately. I have caught numbers of 20+ lb drum and catfish on this line when smallmouth fishing. 8-)
  11. I have used all three colors of original formula and both colors of Ultra Soft. Original Hybrid Green is virtually invisible in clear water Smoke is invisible in stained water (a perfect match) Clear is very stealthy in clear water, but tends to show up more in stained water Hybrid Ultra Soft In the smaller diameters, clear and green blend well in clear water Clear tends to stand out more in stained water, it's a milky white In larger diameters, clear is the least visible in all water, but both are visible 8-)
  12. I never use a trailer, but I do have a suggestion: If you aren't fishing a Cavitron buzzbait, get one! Buzzbaits are not all alike. The Cavitron comes onto plane quickly, creates a nice bubble trail and produces a unique "chirping" sound. I have had great luck with the 3/8 oz, black on black. 8-)
  13. Well, I don't know what you mean by "spin some lures". As far as accuracy, that may be true for you, but not me. 8-)
  14. Well, ya know I've never really seen one, just read and heard about 'em. :
  15. Ask someone (but NOT on this Forum) to tell you the story about "The Old Bull and The Young Bull". 8-)
  16. Send a PM to five.bass.limit. I think he still has some for sale. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?action=viewprofile;username=050A1506010210100F0A0E0A17630 8-)
  17. Nothing. I only pitch jigs with a baitcaster. When I fish soft plastics I always cast. 8-)
  18. Yes, but it takes an hour or so for their eyes to adjust. Bass have a lateral line which allows them to detect movement regardless of the light. http://www.laterallineco.com/fish_lateral_line.html 8-)
  19. Nope. The biggest producers at night are still jigs and soft plastics. 8-)
  20. Nope, not me. When I had the opportunity to fish with flechero at Lake Fork, I watched him with amazement shipping under docks and trees with a baitcaster. I'm sure many of our members have that skill, but for me it's of no interest and I can't do it with a baitcaster. On the other hand, skipping with a spinning rig is relatively easy with just a little practice. Since I fish all soft plastics with spinning tackle anyhow, it's a no-brainer for me! 8-)
  21. I have noticed that to some extent with a few hard baits. The original Floating Rapala comes to mind. It still produces fish, but when it was first introduced in the States, fishermen "rented" the lure! On the other hand, jigs and plastic worms have been around for decades and they still produce as well today as the day they were introduced. 8-)
  22. Panther Martin, gold blade, black body with chartreuse spots. Rapala Countdown, rainbow trout pattern. 8-)
  23. You need to spend some time in "Fishing Articles" at the top of the page, especially the "Beginners" section. The BassResource.com library is extensive and the answers to many questions will be found there. 8-)
  24. Welcome aboard! I like fishing jerkbaits. 8-)
  25. It's the tangled mess we sometimes get when casting with a baitcasting reel. Other names include "bird's nest" and "professional overrun". 8-)
