  1. Tom, Thank you for taking the time to submit your post. I sincerely hope you decide to stay aboard and share your thoughts as we move forward. Again, thank you. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior
  2. Autumn began September 23rd! Check out "Drop Shot" in the Fishing Articles section at the top of the page. Here is one to get you started: http://bassresource.com/fishing/dropshot_bass_fishing.html
  3. Why not buy it directly from our sponsor? http://www.megastrike.com/ Bobby, Thanks for the post. 8-)
  4. I might have to delete this post... I don't want anyone to think Fish Chris is a mere mortal. : 8-) You da MAN! If you can't catch 'em, they can't be caught.
  5. Yep, St. Croix Avids are the best deal going right now. I like the specific suggestion (AS68MXF), too. Regarding line: On all my spinning tackle, Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (11.9 lb test).
  6. Oops! I want to defer to other Okuma owners. I have a 1000 series Shimano which I had in mind when responding on this thread. It certainly "can be used" for bass fishing, but I do not choose to use that size. For me, it's a "stocker trout, white bass, crappie, panfish" reel. Perhaps that is not applicable to the Okuma reel you have. Maybe after fishing the rig you can post your review of the new reel.
  7. I suggest weedless T-rig, unpegged. The river is too gnarly to fish exposed hooks. (I tried two weeks ago and went through a dozen jig heads on one drift!) Fishing the tube unpegged allows erratic action by the lure. You will still get hung-up, but not nearly as often as with an exposed hook.
  8. I guess that was it. I fish below the dam, so the crowd wasn't a problem for me, but the parking lots on the lake ramps were packed. In addition to that tournament, many or most of the FLW guys were there to pre-fish, too. One of the guys I fished with said he had seen Larry Nixon and Gary Yamamoto at one of the local restaurants. I didn't see or recognize anyone famous, but I wasn't really out looking for them either.
  9. The high end is not the target market here in Memphis. Some, but very limited and never "in store" specials on quality merchandise. It seems to me that they mostly sell clothes! I did buy a St. Croix last week for $109, which is okay, but not a great deal on rods being discontinued.
  10. Hmm... That package might be considered "slightly above average". : Lightninrod, your collection is AWESOME! 8-)
  11. ;D ;D ;D CONGRATULATIONS ;D ;D ;D Excellent report, outstanding fish and great pics! 8-)
  12. I think the posts have been somewhat overwhelming and totally comprehensive. We have to get out on the water and try to experiment with an overload of information. With this fundamental format, almost everyone can "kick it up a notch". Next on the agenda, let's address fishing a river, current and brown fish.
  13. Take a look at Tom Redington's piece on the Home Page.
  14. Mattlures' Baby Bass tear along the spine (on top) where the hook comes out of the lure and around the nose or face. My last lure's head was nearly missing and the tail torn, too. Just a cast or two before I planned to put it to sleep, it found some rocks to live in and escaped. I caught some nice fish on the Baby Bass, but I went through three of them much faster than I expected. One of them only stayed with me for one cast! So, I don't think the plastic glue is going to solve any problems for me. Regarding Yamamoto plastics: I tend to lose them (torn off) before they require repair. If I don't catch any bass, the baits hold up just fine, which isn't eactly what I'm looking for. : Maybe I could glue 'em before I use 'em!
  15. Well, line doesn't just "break", there has to be a reason. I know I use lighter and thinner line than a lot of guys and the only unintentional break-off I can recall in years was at Lake Fork fishing with Flechero last March. That was on a hook-set on a fish or weeds, I'll never know. There must have been a weak spot I didn't notice, but my point is this: Line does not just break.
  16. Hey, I'm a Kevin Harvick fan! Just giving credit where credit is due. What drives me crazy is the lack of skill among the field of drivers. Less than half are in the hunt during the regular season. The Chase drivers are the cream of the crop, but most of those guys didn't win a race this year! Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Jonson were really dominant, throw in a win by Harvick and a couple for Stewart, Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards and that's most of the story. There are at least twenty drivers that don't belong on the track.
  17. You don't need to target the new stockers, you'll catch plenty without trying! Target pools and deeper structure and you might pick up some better fish. Some of the trout stocked a few years ago have survived and now weigh 5 lbs and up. You might be surprised if you fish for bigger trout. I have had pretty good luck fishing the Rapala Countdown, X-Rap and Lucky Craft Pointers.
  18. Well then, no more "Good Morning." Man, you don't need that back from anyone, especially someone you work with.
  19. Midday fishing can produce monsters! Focus on structure in deep water and as LBH said, SLOW DOWN! I have been having pretty good luck with jigs and small (6" - 8") swimbaits, but generally, soft plastics are THE BOMB. Specifically, 6" Senko, Fat Ika and big tubes (Micro Munch Tackle El Gordo or Mizmo 5 1/2" Grandes).
  20. Welcome aboard! The water is still too hot for smallmouth, the bite is EXTREMELY slow. I suggest focusing on largemouth and spots right now.
  21. Two new guys on the same thread, Welcome aboard!
  22. For those of us in about 45 other states, that's a fine bass!
  23. Last spring (winter?) BPS had the same sale. I picked up some 2.5 and 3.5s.
