Quality vs Quantity
I think you will be surprised how many, or actually how few lures you will actually "use". More than 75% of the lures I own have never been fished! For example, fishing jerkbaits is my favorite technique and I have a fairly large collection of Lucky Craft Pointers, Rapala Husky Jerks, X-Raps and Smithwick Rogues. I fish a couple most of the time, but I'm sure I haven't fished six different lures! Anyhow, my general suggestion to those starting out is to buy ONLY those lures that are HIGHLY recommended by people you know or trust. You will save a ton of money over time and you will still accumulate more lures than you will ever need. This is an old thread that you might find useful: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1143177139 Good luck! 8-)

The new world record caught?
Canadian/ American relations go back too far to get jazzed up about a silly swipe. The same comment applies to guys from anywhere "you and I are NOT from" : and is certainly no more "derogatory" than Texacan's and Okies taking a few jabs going into this weekend's "Battle Of The Border." BTW, In this region of the country (Mid South), we are way ahead in "morons per capita"...way ahead! We have some "extras" if you need one. :

Steven Segal has fallen a long long way...
He lives in my suburb now, the Memphis area. I see him (and Joe Theismann) around occasionally. Segal has gained a COUPLE of hundred pounds! He couldn't fit into any of those long coats he used to wear in his movies.

Casting Weightless Plastics with a Baitcaster
Well, I know a lot of guys (including Gary Yamamoto) fish weightless plastics on baitcasting gear and heavy line. I fish soft plastics almost exclusively on spinning tackle (7' Medium Power/ Fast Action) and Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6.

Replacing hooks on cranks ?
I replace with EXACTLY the same size hook. If you have a reason to upsize or downsize because of a suggestion from someone you know or highly regard, go for it! Otherwise, the person/company that designed the lure must have had a reason for selecting the size they chose.

1 All-Around or More...
Whoa! You would be miles ahead buying one quality rod. Start with a St. Croix AVID AC68MXF. This will cover everything for awhile. These rods can be found on sale right now for $65-$109. This is the rod, but Reeds Sports doesn't have much of a sale going on: http://www.reedssports.com/Product.taf?_function=detail&_ID=667 Try Dick's, Sportsman's Warehouse and your local BPS.

Replacing hooks on cranks ?
Before changing hooks, let's find out a little more about them. I don't know about Rapala crankbaits, but the hooks on their X-Raps are VMC and should NOT be replaced!

Not to rehash the loomis worth but...
Isn't it interesting. Our biggest trading partner is probably our worst enemy. Why is that? For hundreds, maybe thousands of years, the Chinese have been thought of as hard working, industrious, family orientated people. Today they don't get all the headlines, but they seem to support all of our enemies and attempt to undermine the United States at every opportunity. I don't get it. I'm not sure I really care where things are made, as long as they meet all of the specs that are claimed. It doesn't seem to me that making a fishing rod or reel should be effected by the country of origination as long as the quality control is in place. I believe that is the general complaint. It's not the fault of the Chinese workman, it's the American, Japanese or German companies that own the plant.

Colorado Rockies Are In The Playoffs!
I'm confused. I have been away from professional baseball for nearly a decade, but what do these losers have to do with the Colorado Rockies?
-
Looking for rod.
For crankbaits, senkos and jigs with light wire hooks. You can get away with a Med X-Fast. But if you are looking to use the standard heavy hook jig you will need two rods. Nothin' to talk about with the St. Croix Avid sale that is going on. Depending on the deal, for $65- $109 you can buy an AC68MXF. You're done! 8-)

Fall Fishing, creeks or points?
I target points, both primary and secondary. The bass are focused on the abundant baitfish this time of year, but that does NOT mean you should "match-the-hatch." Size and action are the keys, not color. "Moving baits" tend to outperform finesse lures. This may be crankbait season, but it is also the very best time of year to fish jerkbaits. My preference is fishing over deep water on steeply sloped, rocky points. The fish on this type of structure are patrolling and often VERY aggressive.
