  1. Big purple worms in the summer. Specifically the Rage Thumper, Blue Fleck. Last weekend we were targeting smallmouth with thin, 3" tubes. Deep diving crankbaits like the DD22 are another option. Lots of guys swear by flutter spoons, but I catch too many rocks.
  2. I prefer baitcasting gear for jerkbaits. My dedicated rig is an Avid AVC66MF with a soft tip. The rod is matched up with a Scorpion (supertuned) and #12 Sunline Super Natural.

  4. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
  5. WOO-HOO! Small correction: Your previous PB was 5 & change unless "live bait" doesn't count.
  6. You are short two rods!
  7. We targeted specific structure associated with the river channel. Good electronics come in handy! A specific example was fishing an old creek channel that empties into what is now the lake. This serves as a "highway" for bass. We found a bend in the old stream bed where we caught a dozen or so on that particular spot.
  8. My advice is to spend your time in the BassResource Library at the top of the page. The articles are FAR more important for a new fisherman than the chat on the forum. As you gain knowledge of the sport you will be better prepared to ask specific questions. Start here http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_articles.html and read all the articles and links. Sprinkle in the videos which are VERY informative and fun to watch. TAKE NOTES and build yourself a notebook for reference. In the top portion of this section (General) is a pinned feature "Best Of" Bass Resource. All of these threads will be of interest, but here is a place to start: "Just Getting Started" Guaranteed To Catch Bass I just cant catch bass Learning to fish on your own
  9. I thought he had bestowed his own title as "Sovereign Ruler Of The Basement".
  10. Fish them as an alternative to a weightless Senko. For me that is <12' of water. This one was caught off a dock, on a Fat Ika at Guntersville: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/lake-guntersville-2012.html
  11. Some friends and I had our best day smallmouth fishing last weekend. All the fish were caught on structure, in current near the river channel in the middle of the Tennessee River.

  13. Woo-Hoo! CONGRATULATIONS!
  14. The rocks love flutter spoons!
  15. Topwater & crankbait rods can be combined. You still need a jig rod.
  16. I agree. The Avid AVC70MM is a GREAT crankbait rod!
  17. Oops! You would think after all these years I would have gotten that right!
  18. I like both, but have a strong preference for one over the other for specific applications. Power: Baitcasting Finesse: Spinning Also, I prefer baitcasters for all "moving" baits.

  20. Might be the best information on the entire site!
  21. Okay, these are mine:
  22. If it's a ridge or trench, drop your buoys outside both ends. For holes or humps, either side, but remember which side! I don't think the falling weight has any impact on the fish.
