  1. I prefer hickory. I don't prep, go straight to the rub. Push it down into every crease in addition to the outside. Low temperature (225*) is especially important for the first hour or so, higher settings toughen the meat. I only use wood on the initial fire. After that the smoke just chars the butt. Cooking time is approximately 1 1/2 hours per pound. The internal temperature must reach 180* - 190*. Let the butt sit for 1/2 hour before pulling so the meat can reabsorb the juices. Use rubber gloves to pull the meat, removing all visible fat. Note: If you don't care a thing about calories, chop rather than pull. This will retain all the fat and flavor!
  2. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
  3. I believe I will remove the crank, attach a hose, put a headless nail in the other end of the hose and attach a drill and run it to break it in. Very few people have heard of this trick. As far as I know, I invented it. Should work. Should work for what?
  4. I have a storage room in the garage. The door opens into the middle of the room. Onrthe wall to the left I have rod holders. On the adjacent wall is pegboard from the waist up and shelving below. The left of the back wall has a display case on top with more shelving below. The rest of the room is boxed in with steel shelving for hunting and camping gear plus two sections for automotive products and garden chemicals. This room also serves as a storm shelter, so I keep survival supplies here, too.
  5. I like to have everything need in the same Plano box with my plastics. In the front I have those little compartments seperated for hooks, weights, beads, swivels and stoppers. I keep a reserve in the side compartment of the tackle bag with some leader line, extra MegaStrike and KVD L & L conditioner.
  6. WOO-Hoo! That's great!
  7. You make a good point, the Ravens beat VERY good teams with everything on the line. I will concede. The Hail Mary was just incredible!
  8. Seems silly to me. I like to display all the stuff on the walls of The Man Cave. So much that will never be used, but ready if you need it! The biggest issue is finding more room for the next "must have". What I have been doing for fun when it has just been too nasty to get out is organizing my stuff. Most of my tackle is kept on either peg board or shelfing. Next is organizing Plano boxes, three for soft plastics, two for jigs and another for hard baits. Then I have two compartments on the sides of my bag, one for unopened packages and the other for additional terminal tackle. So, some technique specific stuff has to be stored seperately in Shimano boxes: jerkbaits, deep divers, bades & spoons and another for spare gitzits. The fun continues with a smaller bag for smallmouth only or if I am sharing tackle with guests, just smaller duplication of my main box. So, call me crazy, but with all this gear, chances are I will end up fishing whatever is rigged on 6-8 rods and never open the box!

  10. Well, as we approach the playoffs the best teams face one and done. Although Peyton may have the best quarterback statistics in NFL history, the Broncos defense is still questionable. What really makes Denver fans nervous is last year's loss to the Ravens. Other than the Baltimore crowd, I don't think anyone thinks "the best team" won that game. At any rate, nothing rally matters without the Lombardi Trophy.
  11. For weightless presentations I have a few set-ups: Spinning tackle: #4 Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Tatsu #6 Baitcasting gear: Kanzen #30 with a Tatsu #15 leader or Tatsu #20 (no leader)
  12. I think you might be surprised. Not everyone has the ability to feel subtle clues, but for those that do, we can feel the difference between different kinds of cover and structure.
  13. If you are asking for a rod & reel combination under $200, this does not work, but if it's just the rod you need, the Pinnacle is killer! For other members, this is a great set-up! http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/pinnacle-optimus-xlt-dhc-review.html
  14. Dwight is probably our "in-house" expert, especially for those of us that prefer brown fish! He recently posted some of his criteria and personal favorites. My takeaway was diversity, not so much color, but action and depth. My personal favorite jerkbaits are the Megabass Vision 110, and 110 FX. However, I seem to do better with the Lucky Craft Pointers. This year I spent a lot of time with the Smithwick Rogues which resulted in making this brand my best producer. Funny how that works! I think you also need to have a few XR6 X-Raps for days when the fish are VERY aggressive. And I'll add another brand that has impressed me, the McStick.
  15. Hopefully we'll have a few nice weekends next month. January has been very good for me and my friends in the past. I have a jones going for a big brown fish and need a fix desperately!
  16. Pitching and flipping Most of my fishing buddies are river rats. When we fish the lakes is mostly deep structure. This year I going to spend a little more time chasing green fish in the grass and timber.
  17. Looks that way to me, too. It's not a member's video, just something out there on the internet. I think they stole the idea for the beginning from Blair Witch.
  18. For the most part suspending bass are inactive and a waste of time. The only exception might be fishing the A-rig. A school of baitfish is hard to ignore!
  19. All the more reason to choose the CI4+
  20. Rather than buying new, I would suggest something "gently used" from our Flea Market. You have to be patient, but GREAT deals pop up from time to time.
  21. The rod & reel you bought will be fine for "moving" lures. When you decide to focus on soft plastics and jigs, you should consider looking for another combination. This might help: For enthusiasts, technique specific gear is fun to collect. However, three rigs cover all the basics: #1 6 1/2' or 7' MH baitcaster for jigs, some soft plastics and spinnerbaits #2 6 1/2' or 7' MM baitcaster for treble hook lures #3 7' MF spinning rod for lighter lures and a variety of techniques
  22. My MBR842C is mached with a Core 50MG. This is my favorite rig. For the most part I use this for swim jigs, soft jerkbaits and small swimbaits. I have the Core 100MG on a PR844C. This combination could be used to fish most treble hook lures. Mine is dedicated to topwater.
  23. Curado 200G http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/low_profile_baitcasting/Curado_E.html
  24. I don't think so...the guys that fish "wrong handed" just like to promote the idea. I suspect 90% or more fish baitcasters with a right hand retrieve. You might be surprised how many guys switch the handle on spinning gear and fish them with a right hand retrieve, too!
