  1. Nice fish, GREAT pic!
  2. Really no issue among brands. I fish several, but for most soft plastics it's Moaner Hooks: http://www.moanerhooks.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=68_66
  3. No, The Grove.
  4. Caught one of my best this morning. Posted Today, 09:43 AM Well, I haven't been fishing the local ponds other than a few trips to Collierville. My last several visits to Grove have not produced much of anything, and no size at all. The issue, I think, is just too many guys are fishing it now and a few have been taking some of our prizes. Anyhow, this morning I downsized to a Rage Baby Craw tipped in chartreuse JJs. My first bite was a small buck bass. At 7:10 I finally got smacked. The fat girl popped the craw as I lifted it just off the bottom. Made a good run and classic jump before being landed. The fish's tail was tipped red, I'm guessing on bed or just off...Could have something to do with the Supermoon...She looked big enough to go 8, but she was light.

  6. First post and you revive a three month old thread to diss a rod company? Although it wouldn't be fair for a GLX fan to compare his rod to any brand at a $70 pricing point, stating that the BPS rod is on par with a GLX is simply ridiculous. Not a great way to introduce yourself.
  7. Knob Creek is nice. I received a bottle of Pappy Van Winkles as a gift a couple of years ago. When I win the lottery this is all I will drink! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pappy_Van_Winkle's_Family_Reserve
  8. Striper will be in the turbulent water, bass will be on the outside edges and further downstream. Best lures are small swimbaits: Hollow Belly, Shadalicious and Keitech Swing Impact Fat. These are VERY effective and rarely hang up.
  9. The Big Bass I caught during the Roadtrip was caught on a Fat Ika. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/13845-guaranteed-to-catch-bass/
  10. Posted by George Welcome Let's get technical, as there are in fact reasons, not just some lame holdover from days past that put the handles where they are. What will move the fish during retrieval is placed to the strong hand! A baitcast is designed to be used as a winch, so it is the reel that retrieves the fish. Hence if you are right handed the handle is in your right hand. A spinning reel is designed to pick up unloaded or loose line, not retrieve the fish. Hence it is the rod that does the retrieval, so it is the rod that is in your strong hand. If you are right handed then the pole goes to the right hand.
  11. I fish MegaStrike Cavitrons exclusively, but you should also be throwing the RageTail Shad! http://www.ragetail.com/ragetailshad.html
  12. Keep the rod tip high (10-12 o'clock) and the drag setting 3-4 lbs. The rod will allow some cushion and the reel will release under pressure or sudden surge. Both smallmouth in my avatar and the Big Fish at Guntersville last week were caught using Yo-Zuri Hybrid #4.
  13. I have been having good success with the Hollow Belly, Shadalicious and Keitech Swing Impact Fat. for the hollow baits, I use the 1/4 oz Moaner Stroker weighted hooks: http://www.moanerhoo...dex&cPath=68_65 , The Swing Impact is rigged on a jig head:
  14. You still have as much chance as anyone else. I have never noticed any impact from moon fazes.
  15. Spinning gear: Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 Baitcasting gear: Hybrid #12 Exceptions: Braid has significantly improved my jig fishing. #50 Suffix 832 The pros recommended monofilament for jerkbaits: #12 Sunline SuperNatural Ultra clear water: Seaguar InvizX #8 (.009" diameter)
  16. No doubt! Once we survived the storm, the fishing was awesome.
  17. It's uncanny just how true that is! Seven years in a row? Well...Next year will be different!
  18. Norman Fat Boy, Redear LC RC 3.5, purple back, yellow belly (pictured on the Home Page)

  20. The Lucky Craft are PERFECT in every way. With an effective lure retriever, you will own these lures virtually forever!
  21. http://www.bassresou...fishing-videos/ Pick and choose, but this is where to start. I especially llike the jig fishing videos. Glenn has one of the best spinnerbait clips I have ever seen.
  22. Well, this is a fun question, but most reels seem great right out of the box. "Time" is a better measure. Regardless of the brand, a routine cleaning will generally make "new" better. Over time, design, engineering and components take center stage. We all have our favorites, mine are Shimano.
  23. As a "collector" I have a bunch, but here are my suggestions for "all you need": Norman Fat Boy, Redear Bandit 100, White and your favorite color 1/2 oz KVD Red Eye Shad, Silver & Blue LC RC 3.5, Purple Back/ Yellow Belly (This is the lure I am fishing on the Home Page)
