Arrived at the pond around 5:30, but it was still dark! After a few minutes the sky began to brighten. I came with two rods rigged, one with a Rage Tail Baby Thumper, the other with a small River2Sea liplesss crankbait. I started out with the crank. No luck right off the bat so I moved down the steep side of the bank. There are several spots where fish often stage. One is marked by a "No Swimming" sign. My first cast to this spot was about fifteen yards out and parallel to the bank. This is when the trip really started. Found my first nice bass of the day. Two more small fish came quickly, then I moved on. The next big bass was hanging out just where she belonged, in front of a little point. The first bass was 5-6, this one was better! As soon as this big girl felt the steel, she came roaring out. Some friends had just arrive and were greeted with quite a splash! By now we had four guys on this bank so I moved back in a pocket at the far end. Switched to the Thumper, but without success. I decided to pack it out and let the other guys have the rest of the bank. For some reason they never fish the other run which is mildly sloped. I was about to leave, but what the heck...half the bank, the mildly sloped, was still fresh. I tied on a 5" black & blue Senko. The first cast was to a washed up tree. Pretty obvious target, but if you're the first guy there we catch a fish once in a while. Yesterday was the day. I ended the morning with three monsters from that little stretch of water. My buddies were on the other side just watching. I bet they wandered over after I left. Next time you're on a pond remember: On small bodies of water, the fish can be anywhere.

I'll see ya there! Glenn and I will be at both the take-off and weigh-ins, Old Hickory fishes much like Kentucky Lake this time of year: ledges. Numbers, not size is probably the ticket. A good day is probably 10-15 bass, 2-3 lbs. If you can mix in a couple of 4s and 5s, that will be the winning combination. Good luck!

Talk about "who cares". Man, can you believe how critical the situation has become in the NFL? There are probably only eight legitimate quarterbacks in the entire league. The situation is so desperate these two has-beens are starting for Minnesota and Tennessee. I'm watchin' this game in disbelief.

You only "need" three rods: For enthusiasts, technique specific gear is fun to collect. However, three rigs cover all the basics: #1 6 1/2' or 7' MH baitcaster for jigs, some soft plastics and spinnerbaits #2 6 1/2' or 7' MM baitcaster for treble hook lures #3 7' MF spinning rod for lighter lures and a variety of techniques I suggest buying just one rig a year and spending all the money on the best you can afford. Quality gear will last a lifetime.

Try this: 12" - 18" leader with a swivel, no weight.

JJ's Magic for jig trailers, MegaStrike for everything else. I really like JJ's, but it's messy. MegaStrike is VERY user friendly! Both scents seem to help hold bass a little longer. I really think they like the taste.
