moon phases and smallmouth bass fishing
This was your very first post on this forum: im a largemouth fishermen who switched to smallies because of a new location issue. anyways i know that steady barometric pressure will be a good to great fishing for largemouths but what about smallies? i know that rising baro's is great fishing for largemouths but what about smallies? before during and after a rainfall light showers or storm is great for largemouth in my exp. but what about smallies? hot high pressure clear skies days are terrible for largemouths in my exp. but what about smallies? and i know this is weird because i know a bit about baro's but when its rising the baro meter numbers are higher numbers like 40 50 60 and when its low baro pressure its baro numbers like 20 30 10 15 right? and also if you guys can what are moon phases fishing and how do you fish with moon phases? this is all from river fishing ________________ Let's move on... How long a leader???
Any length you like. 18" - 24" is pretty much the standard. 8-)

Anyone here not enjoy sight fishing??
No...the evidence is quite the contrary. Bed fishing has no impact on bass populations. An example that I'm familiar with is Lake Fork, TX. This is arguably one of the highest pressured lakes in the South and is particularly busy during the spawn. Yet, the lake continues to produce both numbers and Share Lunkers! 8-)

Fishing in the wind
It comes from being a river rat. Wind plays havoc and when it's strong, ruins drift fishing. I can't think of any advantages for river fishing. 8-)

Fishing in the wind
Clear cold rocky lake + wind + jerkbait = Lots of smallies I could be wrong... :

jigs
Fish jigs exactly where you might fish soft plastics. Picture in you mind a crawdad crawling over a rock and hiding. Fish slow and be ready. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1189609782 8-)

When Everything Works!
The season is upon us. Pickwick is on fire and the weapons of choice are lipless cranks, jerkbaits and buzzbaits. This weekend I plan to focus on the Rage Tail Smokin' Rooster! When "anything works" it's a great time to try lures you haven't mastered. Confidence is hard to come by and now is the time to step up and do a little experimentation...If you already own it, why not fish it? 8-)

Which Crankbaits First?
In cool water a tight wobble is generally recommended. Here in Tennessee the fishing is on fire and the lures that dominate are lipless cranks, jerkbaits and buzzbaits right now! In a few weeks, as the topwater bite improves, shallow cranks come into play: Norman Fat Boy, Bomber Square A and LC (Clunn) 2.5 & 3.5. Wiggle Warts and Bandit 200s are always in play. Considerations for other depths as we move into summer include Rapala Shad Raps and DTs, Fat Free Shad and DD22. I don't believe anyone who focuses on crankbaits believes they are "all the same". 8-)

moon phases and smallmouth bass fishing
What IS important: In rivers, current is the most important factor Water temperatures Water clarity Primary and secondary food sources (shad, bluegill, crawdads) Structure, cover, depth and transition From a practical standpoint, wind So, what to do? First of all, ask around and see if the locals can give you a few tips. Next, basic lurers: single tail grubs on a jig head, 3 1/2" tubes, 5" Senko, Fat Ika, 6 1/2" Kut Tail (T-rigged, drop shot or shaky head), jerkbaits, Wiggle Warts, Bandit 200, jig with trailer, baby craws (T-rig or dropshot) and spinnerbaits (chartreuse & white). If live bait is your thing, big minnows will out-fish any other option. If you are in a boat, split shot with an octopus circle hook. From the shore, under a bobber. Now, go fishing!

My first LMB on a Jig
Very nice fish. I like the presentation, too! GMAN builds a nice Mop head. I'm fishing his 3/4 oz football head, black. The trailer is a Rage Tail Lobster, blue. In the water it appears to be the size of a softball. 8-)
