  1. Just because the bass have not gone extinct doesn't mean there are things that can harm them or hurt a fishery. I dont see why investigating and trying to improve the quantity and quality of fish is a bad thing. I'll say that stuff like this can be overblown by TV, etc. and if thats your point ill agree with it. Youre right here, but we could wipe them out if we tried. See the Yangtze river 10 year fishing ban. Bass are lucky we've got regulations and even more so that catch and release is so prevalent.
  2. I think the issue is moe to do with boats travelling between lakes and things hitching a ride in livewells, less to do with bait from a dealer. As for plastics, i hope somebody figures out a good biodegradable option soon that takes over. Never made sense to me that so much plastic is basically just thrown into the lakes. Metal hooks will eventually disappear many years down the line but not plastics.
  3. Two different powered rods with the same action will bend differently with the same weight. Two rods with the same power and different actions will bend differently with the same weight. I think of power as the diameter of the rod and bending strength at the base. The action is determined by how the cross section changes along the length. A fishing rod is basically a cantilevered beam with a circular cross section with point loads applied by the guides.
  4. What season and time of day is best for the rkcrawler? Im thinking it could be effective in spring but also in summer during lowlight periods on clear lakes since it gets to a decent depth.
  5. Got some gifts in my stocking for late christmas today
  6. Lews super duty wide spool is another good option for this reason. Not sure exactly how big it is but I think its about a 200 size since there is a 300 size super duty.
  7. Black is a staple in the musky world. Any bait any time it's one of the best options. Im surprised people are so hesitant to embrace it with crankbaits when all i hear about are black jigs and plastics.
  8. Mainline gets tied to the little loop at the bend in the wire bottom bouncer. So you've got the leg with a weight on it that drags the ground, and the spinner tied to the arm up off the bottom. Cant be cast at all. Also if you stop trolling it will lay over on the bottom so they only work when moving.
  9. Its a big wire with a weight on it. The arm drags on the ground and keeps the spinner suspended off the bottom as you troll over areas with changing depths or rocks. You could cast it with an inline weight i suppose but trolling is best.
  10. Thread a worm onto the hook (see the little barbs?) then hook it up to a bottom bouncer or inline sinker and troll it for walleye. Its called a spinner rig.
  11. 52° is October temps around here, primetime fall fishing. Cool photo!
  12. Doesn't look like theyve got a plain lead head which would be my only complaint. But theres black and white if you want to use it with different colored swimbaits.
  13. Cabela's mean eye jigs. Long enough shank and a decent keeper. No fancy swimbait heads for me, fish don't care.
  14. Any big crankbait will be heavy enough to bomb it even with a big spool.
  15. Lots of good options. I'll add the Lews BB1, BB1 pro, and the tournament MB in 5.6:1 (TS1SMB on sale for $80 on Tacklewarehouse). Or step up to the wide spool superduty for real big cranks. I was eyeing the abu winch but found the Tourney MB on sale instead.
  16. Lews is owned by pure fishing which also makes pflueger and abu garcias. So thats why theyd feel similar. You should try some of their most popular reels including the LFS, tournament MB, or tournament pro.
  17. Im waiting for 2 of these to show up on monday. I also got the phantom green!
  18. Joe Bucher, multi-species fisherman from Wisconsin and best known for musky.
  19. I looked at it again and i suppose the red is done in tasteful accents. I just like the gold instead. Might have to look at a BB1 or even then BB1 pro in the future. Of course the tourney pro looks good as well...
  20. Just bought one and posted in the sale thread before I saw this. Its an absolute steal at $80. I got the 5.6:1 which has a larger spool and longer handle. I was looking at the BB1 for cranks but this is perfect for me. It's a shame theyre discontinued. The new tournament MP looks like the same reel for 10 more dollars (and gross red coloring).
  21. Tackle warehouse has the Lews Tournament MB for $80 (usually $140, its discontinued). I grabbed the 5.6:1 ratio which has a larger capacity spool and longer handle than the other models. Perfect for crankbaits.
  22. I guess im not sure what the question is here. Of course retail stores don't carry the old model anymore if its been replaced. Good luck on your search!
