  1. Hello and welcome to the forum.
  2. Most people won't remember this but they made them in two sizes. The small one most people used but they also had a one a little bit bigger. I have some of the newer ones that were still called the Bayou Boogie I bought several years ago. While I have used them some I haven't caught anything on them. I guess they are now discontinued. I couldn't find them listed on Heddons website.
  3. One of my old favorites is a Bayou Boogie. That is the only lipless crankbait I ever caught a fish on. For one summer we really caught a bunch with it. I'm not sure but I thought this came before the Sonic, but maybe not.
  4. I drained a little bit of fluid out of the lower unit today. It looks brand new. Did not see any indications of water in it. I refilled it and put the prop back on. May try to go fishing tomorrow for a little while and check it again. I have never replaced a seal on a lower unit. I probably have the tools I need but there may be some things I am not aware of in doing this. I would take it to a repair shop and let them do it. Hopefully everything will be done right. I realize this thread was getting derailed. I have derailed a few myself. Hopefully we can get it back on track now.
  5. My outboard motor is a 2003 40HP Mercury. I should have posted this in the original post. I got braid wrapped around the trolling motor prop on a different lake the first time I fished it. I still haven't done anything to put the prop back on. I guess sinus and allergies are getting the best of me.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
  7. The way spincast reels are made and the way braided line is braid is the worst possible choice to put on a spincast reel. You need the change it out and put monofilament line back on it.
  8. Congratulations. Kevin the bass are waiting for you.
  9. Thanks for the info. I was planning to take it easy next time out but it sounds like I might as well give it a good run and then check it.
  10. I have had bad spools of line. Years ago I bought some 10# Stren from one of our local box stores. I could break it with my hands very easily. I went to a tackle store and bought some Abrazx which I know people love. I would break on the hookset some where in the middle, not at a knot. This is the only line I ever had that problem with. I had some Sufix Invisible florocarbon. It started shredding when I used tungsten sinkers. Never had that problem with any other line.
  11. I cleaned the prop shaft up and got it cleaned up pretty good. It has been sitting for a day with the prop off. I am not seeing any signs of oil leakage. The line was pretty dirty and greasy from all the old grease on it. I always put grease on the prop shaft any time I take the prop off and put it back on. I will take the boat and go creek fishing next time out. I won't be making any long hard runs. I can check the oil after that and see how it looks. As for taking it the shop the place I am using now is about 60 miles away. I have only used them once but they were very straight forward and honest to deal with.
  12. It did get around the prop shaft between the stop for the prop the go against and the main unit. I haven't done anything else with it yet as I had to go to the doctor today with some kind of virus knocking me down
  13. I went fishing yesterday. When I was tying everything down after fishing and loading the boat on the trailer I noticed a piece of braided line hanging out from the prop. I have heard stories about fishing line damaging lower units. I took the prop off today and got the line off. As best I can tell I got it all off. Since this is first time I have ever had this problem is there anything else I need to check or be concerned about? I have not put the prop back on yet. I will probably do that tomorrow. Any help or info is appreciated. Thanks. Oh and fishing was lousy. Yesterday was the first time I have been skunked this year. Had some on but they decided to get off before I could get them in the boat.
  14. Every time my wife makes a mistake in the kitchen I get it for supper. If somebody asks me fix them something to eat I have two questions. Do you want your peanut butter sandwich creamy or crunchy? Do you want it with or without jelly? LOL
  15. I have used Sufix Siege for years on baitcasting and spinning equipment. I ran across the 600 yard spools of YZH Hybrid for around $8.00 so it bought a spool of 8# to try it out. So far it has been very good on my spinning setups. I have only had one bad line tangle with it and that was probably my fault. I was throwing a weightless Trick Worm and didn't use a swivel and leader with it. I am using it on 200 and 2500 size spinning reels.
  16. My old Citca D reels are still as smooth and slick as any new one on the market.
  17. We used to have a boat and rv show here. also had pickup trucks and some fishing stuff. There hasn't been one here in two or three years now. Between Covid and major renovations going on where they held the show it ended. This show was going downhill and got to where it wasn't very good. One show I went to I got to watch Rick Clunn do a fishing demo and got to talk to him for a few minutes after the demo.
  18. I have lost motivation to go fishing when it was really tough and I wasn't catching anything. We have had a really hot summer where I stayed home instead of fighting the heat. Then a whole bunch of rain which caused a lot of flooding. I was planning to go one day last week but neither my wife nor I slept very good the night before. We just didn't feel like getting everything ready to go so we stayed home. Finally made it out yesterday for the first time in at least a month. Got lucky and put four in the boat.

  21. I know what you mean about things changing as we get older. A few years ago I was talking to a neighbor that retired a few years before I did. He said he could still do a lot of things he used to do but it took him a lot longer to recover than it did before. What he said is true. I now know that for myself. I hate this getting old crap.
