  1. I'll say Mr. Twister Phenom. It's been living up to the hype for a long time.
  2. lunkerboss923, thanks for being a concerned parent and a good dad. We need more guys like you out there.
  3. This is a great post A-Jay. One thing I've felt through the years with my own progression, is that at times I felt like I'd reached a peak, and that was as good as I was ever going to get. Of course this was wrong. Once you feel that way, it's time to start learning again. Learning is the key.
  4. I attended a seminar many years ago by Larry Nixon on structure fishing. One thing he said that stuck with me was that he thought it would be impossible to duplicate the exact retrieve of another fisherman, even with the same bait, rod/reel, weight etc. It could come down to small details. Guys fish differently, and, whatever they're doing on a given day could be working well, while your not catching fish. Good question with this post, but if we all knew the correct answer here, we'd be catching way more fish on every trip. Trying to figure out this piece of the puzzle is part of what makes fishing so much fun.
  5. Underspins have been kind of hot for a while now, and yes they are overpriced. They're really nothing new either. Now they come with better plastic, hooks, spinner and swivel, but still just a hot rodded Blakemore Roadrunner. The best option might be to buy heads and put them together yourself.
  6. I'll give green pumpkin a shot again this year, but it's been a poor producing color for me overall. I've tried flake/ grn pumpkin colors also. I don't know why but I just don't seem to do well on it.
  7. This is a good post. I never gave this topic much thought untill I read through this post. A very bad winter could possibly make the early spring fishing tough, but as others have said, if the ice is gone, I'm going fishing.
  8. I know one thing for sure. If you're a service plumber, you'll probably start getting very busy soon. Once the pipes thaw out many will break open. Plumbers will be in demand. We made it to 24 degrees today. Felt like t shirt weather compared to this past week.
  9. Another good one to bring is a Johnson Silver Minnow, a classic bait for throwing over weedy areas.
  10. T rig plastic worms, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits sound good for this area also. Maybe a topwater popper or Zara Spook too
  11. Catt, that's pretty amazing! We have -14 here in n central Mo this morn. It's been cold for a week now. Supposed to be 38 on Sat. A heat wave!
  12. Hello from a fellow Missourian. I'm.about 35 miles north of KC. Welcome to BR
  13. I've carried one for probably forty years or so. I usually carry a stockman three blade knife, med size. Case and Buck are my favourites.
  14. Plastic worm( various models) Spinnerbait. Rattletrap. Jig/ trailer combo. Spook
  15. Around my area, most bigger bass are caught in the spring, within a 2 month time frame. I think this is because there are so many more fisherman out there. Once it gets really hot, there are way less guys going fishing. I'm planning on targeting bigger fish this year at night, when it gets really hot. I'll probably have the lake to myself, and won't have to compete with loud boats out there. In some past threads, Catt put me on the right hot summer bait, the Mr Twister Mag 12" Buzz Worm. Those, along with a spinnerbait and jig/pig combo, and a good buzzbait should draw a strike from.a good size bass. Finding the right location, and the right timing of these night trips is up to me. Getting a good "tap" on a big worm at night is a special thrill in bass fishing.
  16. I've fished grubs off and on over the years, starting with Mr. Twister grubs, then Riverside grubs from Wal Mart. Sometimes if the fish won't hit a larger, flashy spinnerbait, they'll hit a white 3" or 4" grub. These days about all I carry are Zoom Fat Albert grubs.
  17. I've had fish for breakfast many times. Fried crappie fillets, or fried bream fillets. Once, while we were visiting family in Iowa, we caught yellow perch and cooked them the next morning. Those were really good.
  18. Usually Zoom Chunk. This spring #11 pork frogs
  19. I like my weight to slide free on the line. I rarely peg. If I'm flipping to thick stuff, I'll peg. Otherwise for most things, I have the best luck fishing unpegged weight
  20. I've always wanted to try a Dalton Special. I've caught bass on other propbaits, but I've never bought a Dalton.Never caught a fish on one.
  21. Heading to my daughter's house. Having boiled shrimp, chili, roll ups and cheese dip. Probably way to much food....
  22. Jonas, on your non jointed jitterbug, you might try adding some split rings to the hooks, and upgrading to some better hooks. Bass seem to throw this plug, and this may help keep them hooked. Also give your bait a test run. Carefully bending the metal lip can tune it to produce the desired " bulb bulb blub" sound on a slow retrieve.
  23. When I was young, in my late 20s, I had a wife and four kids at home. On Friday night, I would wait until around ten or so, and go walk the banks at a small lake near my house, for a couple two or three hours. I had read about a Florida angler who caught many ten pound plus bass on a black muskie jitterbug. I bought one and never caught a single fish on it. The best spot was an old, half sunken dock with a light above. Bats would circle the light, and the bugs were thick. I caught many bass on a black 5/8 oz jitterbug, a dark spinnerbait, and big 10" plastic worms. Smaller bass would smash the jitterbug right at the bank, making it seem like you had a much bigger fish. Overall, the spinnerbait with a pork chunk trailer proved to be the best lure here. One night I cast too close to the moss edge and realized I had fouled my lure. I reeled in, flipped on my headlamp and thought I saw something move. When I looked up, there was a deer standing not ten ft away. We looked at each other for a few seconds, then with one leap she was gone into the darkness. Now I'm 63, and I hope to relive these memories with my grandson this summer. Night fishing can be fun. And, it's a great way to develop a feel, for strikes on soft plastic baits also.
  24. I sometimes use an older Fenwick flipping stick when I'm bank fishing. One pond I fish is unmowed, thick cover all around. The long rod and heavy line works best. Most of my bass are caught here within 10ft of the bank.
