Twinspins
I recently was given an old tacklebox with a few baits left inside. There were 4 of the old Shannon twinspin baits. I used to have some years ago, but havnt fished this style spinner in years. As I remember, I caught a few fish on them years ago. This was also a favorite bait of Harold Ensley, a famous Missouri fisherman, who caught lots of Ozarks area bass in the 60s and 70s on these spinners. I met him years ago at a sportshow in KC, and he told me a black twinspin with a pork eel trailer was a favorite of his. Is anyone fishing this style spinner? If so, how are you fishing them? Colors ? Trailers? I'm going to clean these up and give them a shot again.

Probably asked 100 times...
For casting reels, I've used Big Game for years. Tough, dependable and priced right

Your favorite old baitcaster?
My favorite "old" baitcasters would be my old ABU 5500c.

Mike Long
A-Jay, sad but very true. This is what we do with guys like this. They become more famous as a liar or cheat, than ever before! Drop this bum like a hot potato, and dont give him any attention at all.

Honesty is always the best policy, in fishing and everything else. If I go fishing and get skunked or have a good day, either way it's all on me. At the end of the day, I have nothing to hide, and I don't worry either way. Long made his choice, and now he has to live with it.Guys like him are out there. I love fishing too much to let someone like this mess up my favorite sport, in any way. Tonight after work, I'll be trying to catch some bass, and I could care less about Mike Long.

Rage Menace -- Rage Bug
We're fans of the Menace grub also. 3" and 4" T rig or shakey head. Summer Craw has been a great color. It's my grandsons favorite bait

Summertime
From June into September, Saturday morning comes early. I'm up at 4:30, frying bacon and 2 eggs, which are then made into 2 sandwiches, one for myself and one for my grandson Aiden. Our boat is ready to go, rods and tackle loaded, along with a small cooler which holds 10 or 12 bottles of water, kept on ice overnight. I head out in darkness, swing by and pick up Aiden, then we're off. Our goal is to be launched, and trolling slowly by daybreak. We like to start with a buzzbait, casting over shallow weedy water. We can usually pick up at least 2 or 3 bass on the buzzbaits. The surface fishing may last for 1 or 11/2 hours, before the sun is high, and beating down on us. We then move to some deeper water spots we've found. I almost always use a plastic worm, Aiden his Rage Menace grub on a shakey head. Since he had a big day with this bait last summer it's his favorite now, and, it is a good one. We usually fish untill around noon. If it's overcast we stay longer. A good hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are 3 things we always take along. The one thing I've found with summer bass fishing over the years is after several days of hot, humid weather, the fish are easier to locate. It's been easier for us to get a pattern going. The heat can be rough, but it's our favorite time to fish. We almost always can catch several bass in the 5 to 6 hrs were fishing. This year, we plan on making some evening trips, and fishing on into the night. For various reasons I havnt been able to fish at night for the past 2 seaons, so we're both looking forward to night fishing again. How do your summer fishing days go? Do you fish in the hottest part of the day? What are your favorite baits for hot weather bass? Do you become a night fisherman only?

Weedless bass lures aren't
Have you ever used the old Mr Twister worm hooks with the barb on the hook eye? They worked good. Something like that might work for the worm on the Johnson spoon

Weedless bass lures aren't
Well, the 7acre quarry lake that I fish has been weeding out more and more over 3 yrs. I've still been able to catch fish here, mostly with a t rig. Thanks to this thread, I dug out some Johnson spoons I havnt thrown for a while. Stopped at Academy today and picked up some new trailers chart, blk, and white. I'm off work Monday ( smashed my toe at work pretty good, so I'll be fishing them Monday morn at sunup. Used to love fishing these spoons, and caught most all my fish by keeping them very near the surface, rod tip up, and bringing them across the thick weed areas. They cast like a bullet too. I'm ready for em

Weedless bass lures aren't
I like to use a 4" plastic grub, or a shortened plastic worm. A skirt, as in Catts photo is good too.

Weedless bass lures aren't
Catt and WRB are right on about the Johnson Silver Minnow. These are one of the great weed spoons. They've been catching bass since the 1920s I believe. Use a heavier weight and stout rod/line to punch you t-rig through the vegetation. A weightless worm rig can be fished on or near the surface, and allowed to slowly sink into pockets and openings in the weeds.
