  1. Love corn on the cob. I like to boil it, cut off the cob, and have it with fresh tomatoe slices. Put some butter on it after you cut it off the cob. I also like it wrapped in foil, and cooked over low heat on a bar b que grill.
  2. When our first president George Washington's wife Martha, made out her will, the first thing she wanted willed was her collection of cast iron cookware. Lewis and Clarke took cast iron with them on they're expedition. And range cooks on the big cattle drives west cooked almost everything in large cast iron Dutch ovens. Just do a Google search of chuck wagon cooking and check out all the cast iron. Cast iron holds it's heat, and works great. If there is any drawback to it it's the weight. Lodge of Tennessee is the last American cast iron forge. They make cast iron you can pass down for generations.
  3. I call it fear of not catching a nice fish.
  4. I have dutch ovens and skillets. I like cast iron
  5. I don't think so. I might be tired, but I still go. You never know. It could be the day the biggest bass of your lifetime decides to strike. I want to be there- and be ready fo her.
  6. The last time I went to the KC show, they had very few fishing boats. Mostly huge boats- that very few folks could afford...
  7. I would love to go!

One of our favourite ways to cook things is in a crockpot. I especially like to use it in fall and winter. Start something in the morning, and, you've got a hot meal ready later in the day. We've done roast, chicken, and pork, both pork roast and chops. If you've been working outdoors, fishing, or hunting, this is a good way to go. You can cook most any meat, and add potatoes and vegtables of your choice. One benefit of the crockpot is that you don't need to be an expert cook. Anyone can do this. It always turns out delicious. Here's a recipe for roast beef that's easy, with a prep time of around 10 to 15 minutes. 1 chuck roast. Size depending on how many folks will be eating. Put a little oil in a skillet, and flour the roast. Sear it on both sides. Transfer the roast to the slow cooker, add cut potatoes, carrots, celery, and onion. Onion is part for flavor, and is optional. Salt and pepper to taste. Add just enough water to cover the bottom of the crockpot. You can add other spices if you like. Turn on your crockpot, and let it cook away. A smaller roast around 4 to 6 hrs. A larger roast or brisket around 8 hrs. Keep the lid on the entire time. While the meat is cooking, all the flavors come together and make a delicious meal. A crockpot can work especially well for a family, with working parents, and children in school, if everyone is gone during the day. There are lots of good recipes to follow, or you can make your own. It's hard to beat. Are there some BR members who like crockpot cooking? What's your favourite dish to make in your crockpot?
  9. How I wish that Kansas City Mo still had a good sportshows each winter. They used to have the show each January. I always looked forward to going. The show was held at Battle Hall, a large expo center in KC. The entire place was full of vendors showing all the latest tackle, baits, and everything related. Many outfitters from all over the country were there also, with guides who worked for these camps and resorts. I got to see a great seminar by Larry Nixon, met and spoke briefly with Guido Hibdon, and met Harold Ensley, famous Missouri fisherman. It was a great time. Some memorable things: when Larry Nixon finished his seminar, he held up a plastic worm and said" learn this". That stayed with me all these years. When I met Guido Hibdon, I mentioned that I thought it was awesome that he had developed such a great finesse fishing style. His response was: son, my daddy taught me almost everything I know about fishing. Weve been fishing that way since I was knee high to a stump." A very easy going, humble man also. I sure wish we had a good sportshows now. Does your town have a good sportshows in the winter? If so, do you attend the show?
  10. I've had the best results by letting up on pressure, and trying to get the bass to swim out of cover. It doesn't always work though.
  11. Bass strike things out of curiosity also. If it doesn't taste or feel right, they blow it out in a second.
  12. I saw a photo of President George Bush Sr. doing this also. But, I've never seen anyone else doing it.
  13. All the baits have gone up a little bit. It's costing everyone a little bit more to go fishing these days.
  14. I'll be 65 in October. I've made a real effort to keep my weight in check, eat healthy, don't use any tobacco or drink in excess. My last checkup went well. We can do our best to live a healthy lifestyle. Still we can have health problems. I consider myself lucky. I attribute my current health to physical activity. I simply refuse to become lazy or non motivated. At some point, I know I'll slow down. Untill that day comes, I'm thankful to be able to be on my feet and breathing strong. Hammer 4 has a good point in this post. " A body at rest, stays at rest. A body in motion, stays in motion". I plan on staying in motion for as long as I can.
  15. Congrats. He'll make a great pet.
  16. I fish a lake that has Chara weeds. This year not as bad as last year. They grow to the surface and curl around, partially submerged. I think the weight of these plants make them sink eventually, along with wind and rain.
  17. I prefer the look and feel of premium grade cork if I can get it.
  18. It's hard to say exactly, but I tend to think that this technology along with everything else in bass fishing could play a part in the next world record bass. In some ways, I hope it doesn't happen that way.
  19. You might try and change your method. Pick an overcast fall day, with a little wind. Fan cast a spinnerbait or a lipless lure. Try different depths and speeds. You may be surprised by what you get. Keep after it, and, don't give up.
  20. This is a good point A-Jay. Dying vegetation exposes the bait fish more. Regardless if panfish, shad, or other. It opens things up for the bass to go on the feed.
  21. I'm getting excited about fall now, especially after reading through this post.
  22. Morning, a good place to start would be type in "frog fishing" in the search bar. You can do the same type of search for Texas Rig fishing also. You'll find a lot of good reading on both these things there. And, Good Luck!
  23. Another reason why I like fall is that some baits you've tried through the summer without much success can become hot. Good time to try some new things also.
  24. Yep. I love fall. Here in Missouri it's around mid Sept thru Oct, depending on things. I like those " light jacket" days.
