  1. I have the Lew's MB and think it is a fantastic reel. I paid around $75 for it on black Friday last year. I have a SLX on the way. Should be here this week. I will set it up and test it out soon. Could not pass up American Legacy SLX combo deal. A rod is coming with the reel!
  2. I have a dealer in the area that carries the Native and Old Town brands. I am going to demo each and make a final decision. Very much leaning towards the Old Town PDL.
  3. I just picked up a SLX 6'10" Medium with SLX 150HG reel for jerkbait fishing. Got it for $125.99 shipped! Can't beat that deal. Either a rod or reel for $26...
  4. Just pulled the trigger on the following combos: American Legacy: Shimano SLX Combo (6'10" medium and 150HG reel) for $125 shipped after 10% off. Use jerkbait fishing. Sportsmans Outfitters - Daiwa Tatula 100 and Daiwa Tatula XT 7' ML casting rod - $185 shipped. Use light crankbaits. Pretty excited to get 2 nice combos for $310.
  5. I have a full sized truck, SUV, and Civic. I want to be able to throw in the back of the truck or car-top easily and don't want to deal with a trailer. Weight is definitely a consideration.
  6. As the subject says, I plan to upgrade to peddle power within the next several months. Here is my short-list of kayaks I am considering. I am looking for a kayak I can move around easily and can stand in. I am looking for advise on each. Native Slayer Propel 10 - $2,199 Hobie Mirage Compass - $1,949 Old Town Topwater PDL - $1,999 I am leaning towards the Old Town, I like the reviews I have seen so far.
  7. BassPro has their crankin sticks on sale $20 off ($59-$79). Fairly highly regarded on this forum.
  8. When I was younger fishing from the dock, my brother got too close to me when casting. He was casting a rapala, I saw the lure as he was casting and yelled, stop!! It was too late, the lure got snagged in my nose! I had to go to the hospital to get it removed. Never stand by your brother while he is casting.
  9. I have several of these reels from the 80s in perfect condition. All are 5.1:1 ratio. I want to know if I upgrade the bearings and spools or other items, can I make modern reels out of them? If I can, how/where would I source the parts?
  10. Don't laugh, but we have 4 seasons up here in the NW. Very diverse fisheries including largemouth, smallmouth, steelhead, salmon, trout, etc. Rivers, lakes, saltwater, the Puget Sound. It is all here. Ocean, mountains and desert all within an hour or two.
  11. I use simple green and then apply a good coat of 303 aerospace protectant
  12. I have been using a drift shute more and more often. It slows my drift enough for casting while allowing me to move at the same time...
  13. Lew's Tournament MB Daiwa Tatula CT Shimano SLX Daiwa Fuego CT
  14. I use KVD line conditioner. Works well. I also use 12 lb invisx.
  15. I went through the same thoughts before I purchased my signature kayak. It is actually 10'3" and weighs 53 pounds. It tracks well and you can stand up in it, but I would not do it for long periods or if the water is rough. Very happy with my JK Cruise.
  16. I have 14 set ups. I consistently use 6 of them: 4 baitcasters and 2 spinning. I use 1/2 of that if fishing my kayak: 2 baitcasters, 1 spinning.
  17. I like smaller jigs, less than 3/8 ounce. Strike King Bitsy Bug jig with Z-man TRD Crawz trailer. I just started using Keitech Tungsten Football jig with the same trailer. honorable mention: dirty jigs
  18. I don't/haven't tethered while using my rod either. However, I am thinking about a float for the rod I am using at the time. Do they really get in the way?
  19. Very similar to what I am seeing in my home lake. Brownish-red with orange bottom.
  20. Johnson Thinfisher Damiki Vault Molix Trago LC ILV 50 Strike Pro Astro Vibe
  21. you could clip the ring to the reel.
  22. Must have in my opinion. Even though the rigs I use in my yak are older model stuff, I still don't want to lose them in the bottom of the lake! I thought it would not be a problem, until I lost one. I usually bring 3 set ups with me, the 2 that I am not using are leashed. I don't leash the one I am using, should I?
  23. I have the same rod for cranks and it works great. I paired it with a Daiwa Fuego CT 6.3:1
  24. Lipped: Sixth Sense Curve 55 Berkley Bad Shad Strike King 3XD, 5XD Sixth Sense Cloud 9 - size C6 or C10 Lipless: Strike King Red Eye Shad Lucky Craft LV 500 Berkley Warpig Sebile Flatt Shad
  25. C-tug here. Works great!
