  1. Not boiling - but immersing for a while in hot water will loosen the memory of the line, making it more limp for ease in spooling the line on spinning reels. This works for FC and Hybrid lines as well. Don't soak the reel - soak the store-bought spool before putting the line on the reel. This is not a permanent solution to line memory, just something to aid in spooling up
  2. Given my family obligations, once a week is the most I can get out. If the weather is too stormy on my designated fishing day...I don't go out. Yes, I have Tuesdays as my fishing day, rest of the week is full up with errands and such, and given the boat traffic around here, the weekends are a no-go.
  3. My non-switch reels I just lift loops off the spool...started doing that with the reels that have the switch as well to be consistent.
  4. ^ What Team9nine said - trying to identify weed species through the surface is very difficult, even for those of us trained. Only way I'd be sure to get it right with them in the water was to snorkel or SCUBA down for an up-close/personal look-see.
  5. He's got one knee on the ground, and one behind that bass - odds are it's to hide the rips. Brian fishing in un-torn jeans? Sacrilege.
  6. In my case I moved from Lowrance to Garmin. Had a Lowrance to start with in the canoe, when I had the money to upgrade I went to a store that had all three manufacturers and played around with them. Choose the Garmin as it seemed the most user-friendly. Next upgrade will also be a Garmin.
  7. I've always got the anti-reverse on and the drag always set properly. Like gimruis, a couple of my reels don't even have the switch.
  8. This morning was the guided trip that the wife got me for Yule. Slow, but did catch a couple decent ones. Both caught on a 3/16oz Black Owner Blockhead with a Green Pumpkin TRD dragged through weeds in 8'-10' of water. There was also a couple 1# caught, a 2# pike and a pumpkinseed the size of a cup saucer...all on the Ned.
  9. No, I'm an old fart who turns his music loud so he can hear it, and wears black socks with his sandals.
  10. Today's outing - Ned on the weedlines. I had a couple that went 'tap-tap-tap' and I set...missed. Let it sit, and they were back 'tap-tap-HAUL'...got them that time. Even if you miss a hook-set the first time when finesse fishing...leave it...half the time either that one, or another one will come up to 'inspect' it.
  11. If you used your hands to apply it someplace - even wiping it off on a towel won't remove all of it...there'll still be a trace amount - and that's all it takes.
  12. Better than me - best I've found is some round bobbers and empty plastics bags.
  13. Sounds like Crappie fishing to me. I've got a President-25 (1100 size) on a 7'6" Celilo UL/F - great for whipping 1/32 and 1/64 oz jigs with micro-plastics a country mile.
  14. New one's aren't all that huge - I like that they give side protection as well, unlike clip-ons.
  15. I know - I keep popping into Digitaka and looking at reels...
  16. @Siebert Outdoors - Mike, can you help this gentleman out?
  17. Even going budget you can keep the weight down Spinner/chatter rig - Supreme XT on a Fury 705CB - 10.9oz total Finesse jig rig - Tatula 100 on a Mojo 6'8" M/F - 10.8oz total For someone who grew up using a rig that weighed in over 1# - these are lightweights.
  18. When you can't afford prescription sunglasses - those or clip-ons are the only game in town...

Probably worse than the mess we had when the I35 bridge collapsed.
  20. Over the glasses - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09Y2THPSQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details Several different lens colors - Silver, Green, Red, Gold and Blue mirrored - others in non-mirrored. They don't carry the clip-ons I got anymore - but there's a number of them out there...
  21. It's not the hole that opens up - just like your car, a water-cooled boat motor has a thermostat. When the engine reaches normal operating temperature, the thermostat opens allowing water to circulate through the cooling system. So yes, the motor has to warm up before you'll see it 'peeing'.
  22. Ya - I'm running a 6.4:1 on my chatter rig.
  23. I won't even get the boat out this week - Tuesdays are my fishing day, and this week is the guided trip the wife got me for Yule. So the 20th will be the next scheduled day to get the boat out.
