  1. Whether it's braid, mono, FC or hybrid - this is what I always do when spooling up my spinning reels. Even my backing - which I should never reach - is put on this way.
  2. I did exactly this - well almost. Two Pflueger Patriarchs, a 7.1 and a 7.9, from ALF's used area...paid $75 and $80. Both had a little boat-rash, but mechanically are 10/10. I've also gotten decent reels from Digitaka at much less than USDM prices...even lower than sale prices most times.
  3. Pelican and Bass Pro Shops put out boats like the Bass Hunter. https://www.cabelas.com/l/small-boats
  4. I'm not near that level, Andy....but...
  5. Chevy - Shimano/Daiwa/Pflueger guy here "Quidam non sunt comparativus"
  6. This is turning into a circle argument - some people have had issues with FC and have sworn off it completely. Others have had good experiences with FC and use it for multiple applications. WE GET IT! If you don't like FC - then don't use it...but don't try to convince those of us who don't have issues with it that it's bad line...we think it's good line.
  7. It's not a 'fix' - it's just diagnostics to make sure your wiring is okay.
  8. Just disconnect the main cables from the pair to the TM - remove the batteries out of the circuit...don't have to separate the batteries themselves.
  9. Cheap multimeter that measures Ohms (resistance) Length of known good wire (buy fresh?) Disconnect batteries. Connect wire length between far end of run and positive on meter. Connect near end of run to negative. Should read 0 (zero) or close to it. If it reads high, there's an issue with that run.
  10. That's 'slow' - 5amp draw, 16 hours on your batteries if you never went faster...8 hours if you don't go below 50% charge.
  11. How fast you running it on average? This is from the spec-sheet based on 100ah batteries. 20 Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less 4.8 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open 2.4 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle The 70# Motorguide draws 42 amps at max, 24 amps at 50% - with 81ah batteries, you wouldn't get even 2 hours at max, just over 3 hours at 50% throttle.
  12. What trolling motor are you using with those?
  13. 1: What's the AH rating on those batteries 2: No - connecting in parallel won't run a 24v TM - you'll get double the AH, but only 12v 3: Are they the exact same model and were they purchased at the same time? 4: How old are they, and have they been maintained properly - charge as soon as you get home, don't wait until a day or two before you're going to use them. 5: How often have you 'drained' them totally - dropping the charge below 50% repeatedly will damage lead-acid batteries.
  14. https://www.navionics.com/usa/apps/navionics-boating Same maps that come on Garmin units, or can be added to other units. I use the app on my 8" Tablet since my Garmin Striker doesn't have included maps.
  15. The 4# test is a cheap mono that I only use for backing on my spinning reels.
  16. Most people say a mod-fast for chatters/spinners, and given my experience I'd agree. So for under $150 I'd suggest what I use for those - Dobyns Fury 705CB.
  17. Chatter and Spinner on Mod-Fast (Fury 705CB for me) Swim Jigs on Fast (Mojo Bass 7'1" MH/F)
  18. It's more 'how much mainline do I put on'. Start with an empty reel - spool on 70 or so yards of mainline, join to BG with Uni-Uni knot, fill the spool. Power drill with an empty source spool on a bolt chucked in, unspool reel to source spool, repeat for source spool to second source spool...this reverses the line. Now put it on your reel. From then on, when you want to replace your mainline, just unspool to the knot, cut it off, tie on new mainline and fill the reel - I'm going on 5 years of the same BG backing on a couple of my reels.
  19. I've actually called the police on illegal handicap parking...here it's a $200 fine.
  20. Baitcasters I run 10# Big Game for backing - no matter what mainline I'm going to use...8# YZH to 20# FC to 50# Braid...all get the same backing.
  21. Ya - but none in decent range of me anymore. Use to have one less than 20 minutes away...now the closest is 40 minutes - in good traffic, which is a rarity on the roads between me an them.
  22. Also, they charge shipping which Digitaka doesn't...
