Catching a really big bass.
Your location shows SE MN - if you're fishing Iowa border waters or the Mississippi after it's joined by the St. Croix (including Lake Pepin) - you are correct. Any other waters...um...no it's not. There is a closed season even on the rivers, even if fishing the Minnesota side of the St. Croix upstream of the confluence.

Dobyns Fury 7' Med-Heavy Crankbait Casting Rod FR 705CB
I'll go as low as 5/16 on my FR705CB - lighter cranks get tossed on my Medium/Fast...FR703C this coming year (ya-ya, I know it says Medium-Heavy, but it's stats are the same as other manufacturer's Medium...so that's how I treat it.)

Is this the sound of my drag not set correctly?
Long as you have a taunt line between you and the fish, that hook is staying put. Whether it's the rod-lift applying the pressure or the reel doesn't matter...the rod is better because it flexes and keeps the pressure on. Pointing the rod at the fish and using the reel can result in it running AT you, giving itself slack, and increasing the chance that it'll toss the hook. Always Keep the tip up a bit and 'pump' the rod to pull the fish closer...use the reel to take up slack as you drop the tip towards the fish before another 'pump'.

Lynn...spank your husband.... oh...wait...he'd probably enjoy that.

You can probably tighten the drag up a bit - should let out line at either 1/3 the pound test of the line or 1/3 the max line rating of the rod...whichever is less. ^ What he said - dragging any fish across the ground can remove the slime coat which protects the fish from disease and parasites.

What pound test line are you running? If it's 8# or 10# - sounds pretty close to right. The clicker would make that sound on heavy pulls as the reel lets out line. If it gets to be too much, you can tighten it slightly, but after bringing the fish in, loosen it back up again.

Fantasy Fishing 2021 - Official Thread
He's one of two 'home town boys', Austin Felix being the other. Of course I'm gonna show Minnesota pride - Seth's won it before, he's done good things in most of his tournaments. No matter what - I'm gonna be loyal to Seth all season. Austin may show up a time or two, just to give a Minnesota boost. Seth's home of New Market is 30 miles as the crow flies from me and one of his favorite lakes when he's not on the road is Minnetonka. Austin's home of Eden Prairie is only 11 miles away.

Surprise TV shows...
Grade school - 3 friends. One day we went to Danny's house after school let out - we were about 7 or 8 - and just for laughs, turned on the TV...60s, mid-afternoon - soap operas, right....we all got hooked. From then on, we'd race to one of our houses so we were in time to watch this unique soap opera called Dark Shadows.

Rapala RHCDS50 Scale Not Recording Light Fish
Well - the name on mine might be different, but this is the one I have It's a generic, made by....I have no idea - but it's re-labeled for a number of different vendors. Vendors on Amazon who sell it: Rapala, ReelSonar (mine), Booms, Ahosoutly, Luoyer...doesn't matter the name on it, it's the same unit. I did a mod that replaces the hook with a carbiner that I clip my grips into - the scale is tared to the grips so I get accurate weight.

Jerkbaits and suspending strips
Which using physics, makes sense..while both the water and the lure change density based on temp - the variation in the solid is much less than that of the liquid. So while the jerkbait does become less dense as the temp increases, the change is smaller than that of the water, so the jerkbait/water density ratio increases...and the jerkbait sinks. Opposite happens as it gets colder.

Jerkbaits and suspending strips
I would think it would. The water is warm, molecules move apart, becomes less dense. Same thing with lures - as they warm up, their molecules will separate a little...you'd have to use a micrometer to measure the difference, but I think there would be a slight change in length/diameter...just the nature of matter (solid/liquid/gas) under temperature variances. So it kind of balances out.

Ever feel like a bad angler?
I get skunked plenty of times. This past year was particularly bad as I didn't get out much...6 canoe trips, 4 shore trips...and on only three of those did I catch 'scoreable' bass - none over 2#. It's kind of disheartening, but just to be on the water sometimes is enough.

Braid breaking at the knot point
If I was going to do the Uni doubled through the eye - I'd use the Doubled-Uni Myself - I'll stick to the Multifile-Knoten - hasn't failed me yet.
-
Braid breaking at the knot point
One more thing to note - make sure the line doesn't cross itself in the hook-eye...you want the two 'runs' to be parallel. I don't use the Palomar, but I do know how to tie it.

Your usual fishing spot. How far a drive is it?
I never got that far west - spent 6 years in Bemidji (9th grade -> 2 years of college) and did all my fishing in that general area. Park Rapids, Erskine, Northome and Deer River were the 'corners' of my range.
