  1. 12# I'd never run on anything less than a 3000 size spinner 10# is pushing it for a 2500 Ya - XL is a good mono line - I used it for years myself. I've moved to Sufix Elite and Sufix Advance for my mono lines now.
  2. Oh, I'm diligent about using KVD on everything except braid. Mono, FC, Hybrid - light soaking when I first spool up at the beginning of the year, touch up spritzes the night before...every time.
  3. What brand/type was it? There are some out there that are absolutely horrendous and turned me off to FC for a while. Anything Seaguar - they invented it after all. InvizX is a good one that's fairly inexpensive compared to others. Tatsu is the top - BPS sale has Tatsu on sale for 25% off Line-test - depends on what you plan on using it for - but 8# would be a good all-around.
  4. Ya - you're gonna want at least 1/2". And spend the little extra and get marine grade plywood...yes, there is a difference.
  5. I use the same rod/reel combo for jigs, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits...it's all good.
  6. Feeling strikes is a function of line stretch - braid is the least stretchy, so transmits the hit clearer. Any leader is going to dampen that a bit, based on the leader type and length. Mono the most, FC the least - but at normal leader lengths of 6'-10' the difference isn't all that noticeable. Wind knots with braid on spinning reels are caused by a few factors - unless proper technique is used, braid actually has more of a chance of wind knots and tangles than straight mono, FC or hybrid - good talk about that here I don't buy line specifically labeled as 'Leader' - I just use the line from my regular inventory...mono or FC and an appropriate pound test based on what I'm doing with that rig.
  7. Or even tomorrow and Thursday. Knockout rounds and weights are set back to zero to start the days.
  8. Neal making that 3#er near the end and knocking Shryock out when Fletcher missed that set...right down to the wire.
  9. I only put 60-70 yds of mainline on top of my backing - that's whether the mainline is braid, mono, FC or hybrid.
  10. I'm doing other things while the stream runs in the background. One thing I'm liking - Boom-Boom doing as well as he is with an all-Frog concentration.
  11. No need to be insulting.
  12. Top 20 today go into round 2 - 10 tomorrow, 10 on Thursday Top 5 of each go to final on Friday Thrift is 1st Defoe, Chapman, Wheeler, KVD, Tharp, Boom-Boom and Evers are all still in it. Still over 4 hours of fishing to go.
  13. It was 34 when I got up at 6am - so ya, melting all night long
  14. That combo should work fine for all your finesse needs. Well chosen.
  15. Some people might enjoy the 25% off Tatsu.
  16. Right now - YT's 'policing' of those is sporadic...you have to trust that the creator is telling the truth. I've seen a few that were marked as 'kid friendly - then reported them because they were not.
  17. So you allow your reels to spin backwards if you don't keep hold of the handle? There are those who prefer back-reeling to letting the reel's drag do the work - but some us trust the drag.
  18. Doesn't have to go far - the digital at my place is registering 38.5
  19. If the outer diameter and width of the spools are the same, with the 70 being a 'shallow version' of the 100 - then there will be no or minimal difference. If the 70 is narrower, then the 70's IPT will drop quicker than the 100's based on a cast of the same distance using the same line.
  20. Axton man dies after falling overboard at Smith Mountain Lake Martinsville Bulletin Feb 14, 2021 An Axton man has died after falling into Smith Mountain Lake on Friday. Richard Donald Haynes III, 35, was launching a boat in the water with another man and fell overboard, a Virginia Department of Wildlife release stated. The other person, who was not identified, was parking a vehicle and boat trailer when the incident occurred at the Penhook No. 9 Boat Ramp. A woman who saw what happened jumped in the water and attempted to assist Haynes, the release stated. Rescue crews from Cool Branch, Franklin County and Smith Mountain Lake responded to the call of a possible drowning at 11:07 a.m. at the 1300 block of Jefferson Dock Road in Penhook and Haynes was declared dead at the Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital a short time later. At the boat ramp - which is why I wear my PFD before stepping into my canoe, not once I'm in and seated...heck I put it on before I back the trailer into the water to launch it. Wear your bloody PFD!!
  21. Long as I have my backup micrometer - sure.
  22. Agree here - a wide spool will lose IPT slower than a narrow spool - more line per layer, less diameter lost per yard of line out.
  23. It's a communication standard for marine electronics - like TCP is a computer communication standard.
  24. A 3000 on a MH is what I've set up for skipping jigs, spinners, chatters. It might also be used for T-Rigs...but I'd not use it for finesse. 2000 on a M would be the max I'd use for finesse work, though a 3000 would work. My general finesse rig is a 1000 size on a ML
  25. 5" Senko - personally I'd use a #1 or maybe a 1/0 hook for wacky rigging that. 4/0 or even 3/0 is way to big.
