2026 Minnesota Season Thread
Some of the channels are opening up on Tonka - someone was actually casting from shore into the Black Lake/Spring Park Bay channel....but there were also a few people out on Black Lake on their buckets...so a mix.

I think we skipped spring.
We're predicted for 62 today, 74 tomorrow....but we'll have guys out on the ice still as it's 8"-10" thick still in a lot of places.

Leader length?
Braid-leader on all my spinning setups as well. I run shorter leaders - 10'-12' normally, Alberto knot in the spool when ready to cast again.

Lithium ion or lead acid?
- Joedodge boat build/set up
Had a boat back in the 90s....had to sell it. Then went shore, canoe, Bass Trek....natural progression of a 'water-bug' 🤪- Centuries or Eons worth of fishing here? Let's Find Out!
Come on - Montgomery Wards was the place to be....late 60s-mid 70s, my cousin and I spent hours wandering through that place trying to decide what to spend our Christmas money on.- Centuries or Eons worth of fishing here? Let's Find Out!
- Dobyns Fury worth it now?
IMO - nope. Black Bass from St Croix is just a little more in cost but way better IMO.- Spinning reels under $175
- To all my fellow Irishmen
I started early - had a stout last night with dinner.- Modifying quick connect drop shot weights for free rig
I just get the open-ring weights and tie them on for DS - the clips never hold properly for me.- To all my fellow Irishmen
I'm not, but my mother-in-law (Donovan, via Flanagan) gave me a button I wear every St. Paddy's day. "I'm not Irish yet, but I'm willing to keep drinking until I am."- Post a photo a day!
And our predicted high is 53 for then....it'll actually feel like spring if we can ignore the white covering the ground.- bought a few fishing licenses.
^ Except MN.....unless you're still fishing at 90.....- bought a few fishing licenses.
Does that mean you're coming for a visit?- What is your price point of Diminishing Returns on rods and reels?
Tossing spinnerbaits and chatterbaits on the MH/F, I can feel the vibration of the blades. Personally I'd rate them as Mod-Fast to Fast rather than true fast...and the MH/F has been my spinner/chatter rod for 7 years now and will be again this coming season.- What is your price point of Diminishing Returns on rods and reels?
I actually have four of them Casting 7'0" H/F 7'0" MH/F 6'6" M/F Spinning 6'6" M/F The shorter rods I keep in the car and use for 'opportunity' fishing....running a mundane errand, have a little extra time on my hands...stop someplace to toss lures for 1/2 hour or so. The H/F and the MH/F have never left my rotation despite having Victorys and Mojos. They definitely perform above their price point, and I'd favorably compare them to SLXs or Tatula XTs - I'd pick them above Colts or Mavericks....and yes, I've handled all four of those lines.- Winter 2025 ~ 2026
- Winter 2025 ~ 2026
Not in my yard....I think it maxed at 8" around Yule...I have deeper snow here now than I did then. Gotta remember, the Cities have bands....Coon Rapids could get 10" while Minnetonka area gets maybe 2"-3".- What is your price point of Diminishing Returns on rods and reels?
I picked up a Spartacus II Plus off AZ for about $40 last year....I was shockingly impressed...it's going on my Aird-X H/F for frogs/toads this year.- Joedodge boat build/set up
^ That's where I got most of my inspiration for Bass Trek.- Winter 2025 ~ 2026
^ Join the club.....- Swim jig question…
Deep summer, I bring swim-jigs through heavy milfoil....they really are "all-terrain" lures. - Joedodge boat build/set up
