  1. You're not the only one. Biggest fish I have so far is a 1.8# Northern, all my bass have been dinks. Next scheduled trip out is this coming Wednesday.
  2. Shore fishing? When in doubt, I'd go for the 6'6".
  3. I never 'hand hold' braid when I'm spooling it...to hold it tight enough, you'd end up with 'thread burns' on your fingers. Line twist can be a factor - did you spool it on the reel in the same direction it came off the source?
  4. Did you keep a good tension on the line while spooling it up? Braid can dig into itself if it's even slightly loose, thereby causing a loop to be under another loop - which would cause it to pause with light lures. Pull the line off - about 50 yds or so, then re-wind it on with some good tension...running the line through the last pages of a thick, heavy book while reeling it on the spool is one way to do this.
  5. Got mugged by the monkey - what else.
  6. Ummm - about $10-$12 for a 600yd spool of Hybrid? How much cheaper you want to go?
  7. I am retired, but with a semi-disabled wife that I function as her PCA...getting time to go fishing is problematic. We do have someone who can come in once a week for four hours - that's my fishing time. Of course sometimes things come up and a scheduled visit has to be cancelled, or the weather is just NOT conducive for the canoe. Two months since open water, one month since bass opener...and I've been out a total of four times so far.
  8. I don't even bother going with 'leader' rated lines for my leaders. Just plain Yo-Zuri Hybrid in 12#...WAY less expensive.
  9. That's more than I spent setting up all ten of my rigs combined. And we're not talking 'bottom of the barrel' junk either. Two Fuego CTs, a Supreme and a pair of Fury rods are in that mix.
  10. What are you going to go for with that thing? Great Whites?
  11. Rapala: Jointed Shallow Shad Rap and DT-4
  12. Different people have different experiences. I ran 20# Power Pro on my President last year...never had a major issue. Running 40# 832 on my Supreme this year...put mono on the President.
  13. I'm still wondering where this number came from as Diawa's site says 13.2# which is more than enough for pitch/flip/frog/punch...that's what I'm using - a Fuego CT-XS https://www.daiwa.com/us/contents/reels/fuego_ct/index.html Model Number Bearings Gear Ratio Line Per Handle Turn Wt. (oz.) Line Capacity (Lb. Test / Yards) Drag Max Handle FGCT100H 5BB, 1RB 6.3:1 26.3" 7.6 MONO: 14/120, 16/100 J-BRAID: 30/130, 40,100 13.2 RIGHT FGCT100HL 5BB, 1RB 6.3:1 26.3" 7.6 MONO: 14/120, 16/100 J-BRAID: 30/130, 40,100 13.2 LEFT FGCT100HS 5BB, 1RB 7.3:1 30.5" 7.6 MONO: 14/120, 16/100 J-BRAID: 30/130, 40,100 13.2 RIGHT FGCT100HSL 5BB, 1RB 7.3:1 30.5" 7.6 MONO: 14/120, 16/100 J-BRAID: 30/130, 40,100 13.2 LEFT FGCT100XS 5BB, 1RB 8.1:1 33.9" 7.6 MONO: 14/120, 16/100 J-BRAID: 30/130, 40,100 13.2 RIGHT FGCT100XSL 5BB, 1RB 8.1:1 33.9" 7.6 MONO: 14/120, 16/100 J-BRAID: 30/130, 40,100 13.2 LEFT
  14. And 100,000 idiot boaters...
  15. Maybe these? https://barlowstackle.com/Gold-Plated-Aluminum-Buzz-Blades--P757/ Or these? https://www.jannsnetcraft.com/plated-buzz-bait-blades/buzz-bait-blades-plated-size-3.aspx
  16. Go with the 12#. That line rating on the spool is not it's 'max', just an indication of how much line you can put on it. You could put 20# on that spool if you wanted...just won't have near as much of it.
  17. I got some spare Owner Oval rings sitting around...might just try one of those to give this a shot.
  18. Maybe it was just really, really hungry.
  19. Just go with a Supreme for $105 - magnesium body. ( I got one on my wish-list )
  20. I'd double check the tip-tip for a groove or nick - the old Q-Tip test is a good way. I use YZH on four of my rigs and the only line I've lost is either through re-ties or the one time a pike bite off a lure.
  21. I'm a cheap bugger - most expensive rig I own retail is $230...my cost was $87 (reel was a gift, rod was gotten on sale) Most I've paid for a rig is $150...my cheapest rig is my backup finesse - $40 Mitchell Avocet RZ combo.
  22. I'm using 4# YZH on my UL - (approx) 500 size reel, the 10# is currently on a (approx) 3000 size, use to be on a (approx) 2500 size (Pfluegers aren't 'standard' size - the 30 is closer to a 2500 than a 2000, the 35 is 'close enough to' a 3000.
  23. Except YZH isn't a mono - it's a co-polymer...blended mix of mono and FC.
  24. I had to think long and hard about this and it still came down to Yo-Zuri Hybrid. If I could have multiple weights - 8# Spinning, 12# Baitcasting. If I have to stick to one weight, 10# - I have that on my Trion-35 currently, had it on the Trion-30 last year and it does fine.
