A-Jay's 2nd Annual Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~
I know - had to run to Menards for some stuff for the further-mods on the canoe. Heat off, window half open...very nice. Too bad it's just a short-spurt warmup.

Wind.
Ditto that for a canoe. Keeping it anchored in place when the wind-speed is approaching 10 is difficult. Paddling is problematic and my 30# TM works hard. No matter the size of the water, if it's above 10, I don't go out.

Working on it - even though it's another 2 months+ to open water here...

Looking for advice for spinnerbait / chatterbait combo
The 705CB is primarily a crankbait rod. Spinners are a secondary technique, and yes, it's rated as a Moderate-Fast. I picked one up to use for cranks...I prefer a full Fast action for single-hook moving baits (spinners/chatters/buzz).

Looking for advice for spinnerbait / chatterbait combo
I run spinners and chatters on a Fast rod. Saying that and your budget Dobyns Fury 704C - says it's a Heavy, but its lure range is what others call Medium-Heavy (1/4-1) I also run those lures on a 7-speed...right around 30 IPT

2020 Rod line up
Nope - I have 4 in circulation...and I could make that 5 if I pulled one out of 'retirement'.

2020 Rod line up
Only my Trion-35 is from FFO - rest of my reels are from Amazon except the Pres-25 which was a gift from a member here. Rods are a mix of Amazon, TW and AL

2020 Rod line up
I'd make some suggestions, but it seems he's addicted to Shimano for some reason...oh well.

Daiwa Aird-X 7' Heavy/Fast with a Diawa Fuego CT-XS (8.1) Diawa Aird-X 7' Medium-Heavy/Fast with a Pflueger Supreme (7.1) Dobyns Fury 7' Medium-Heavy/Mod with a Diawa Fuego CT-H (6.3) Diawa Aird-X 6'6 Medium/Fast with a Pflueger President (7.3) Diawa Aird-X 6'6 Medium/Fast with a Pflueger Trion-35 Dobyns Fury 7' Medium-Light/Fast with a Pflueger Trion-30 Diawa Spinmatic 6'6 Ultra-Light/Fast with a Pflueger President-25 Mitchell Avocet 6'6 Medium-Light/Fast with a Mitchell Avocet RZ-2000 I have a modified Sun Dolphin Scout-SS canoe. Pretty much stick to two of the bays on Lake Minnetonka but occasionally hit one of the smaller lakes in the area not part of the Minnetonka chain. I also bank-fish for panfish occasionally - the Avocet rig stays in the truck for those times. As you can tell, I'm a Diawa/Pflueger fan - first year with the Dobyns rods...may update the Aird-X's to those next year.

Opinions: The Most UNDER / OVER rated Rods & Reels
Inexpensive and cheap aren't equivalent. You just have to get the right inexpensive reels. There are a number of spinners under $100 that have proven themselves over time as well as a number of baitcasters under $150. Ask here about the affordable ones that will last. I know I have a few that would be considered 'budget' reels that have served me well.

Fuego CT or Tatula 100
I was so impressed by my 8.1 Fuego for pitching, frogs and topwater, that when I decided to build a crankbait rig, I went with the 6.3 Fuego Amazon, my friend...$83 for the 7-speed https://www.amazon.com/Daiwa-0001-4482-Fgct100Hs-Fuego-Speed/dp/B06VWMR5S3/ref=pd_sim_200_1/136-6643560-8245451?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B06VWMR5S3&pd_rd_r=0dfa39ca-2b9d-45f0-9442-63d77bf7b70f&pd_rd_w=ZNegM&pd_rd_wg=pk8WP&pf_rd_p=929b877a-7078-4f5f-a05d-3c4dcec3eb17&pf_rd_r=FYQQYB9K22ZCKEK90BKE&psc=1&refRID=FYQQYB9K22ZCKEK90BKE

Any Crankbait Lovers Still Out There?
The cranks that seem to do the best for me are the ones imitating what's here. Perch, Bluegill and Baby Bass.

Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?
Dunno about DSG - but you can get them direct from Pelican for under a grand. https://www.pelicansport.com/us_en/bass-raider-10e

The Challenge vs. the Enjoyment
One reason I regularly turn to my UL rig with 4# YZH when I want to Ned. A 2# bass on UL is a trip.

Just got distance glasses, what to do regarding polarized sunglasses
I got those clip-ons because I'm in tri-focals. Barely afford my standard prescription glasses, purchasing prescription sunglasses is out of the budget.

Just got distance glasses, what to do regarding polarized sunglasses
I picked up this set last year - worked great. https://www.amazon.com/Punasi-Polarized-Plastic-Sunglasses-Outdoor/dp/B01C5GF40M/ref=pd_sbs_309_38?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01C5GF40M&pd_rd_r=1610d21c-ffe0-40c9-928a-bf23d66fed10&pd_rd_w=nDnhj&pd_rd_wg=w6H4Z&pf_rd_p=bdd201df-734f-454e-883c-73b0d8ccd4c3&pf_rd_r=A1CF4EZQPV4193GXSV2N&refRID=A1CF4EZQPV4193GXSV2N

The latest sale thread
Then my other main spinning reel - Pflueger Trion. Don't be fooled that this is a 'cheap' reel. I used a Trion-30 last year for light T-Rigs, light swim-jigs and smaller crankbaits. It's actually a really good reel at a low price. Moving the 30 to my ML rig for Finesse, got a Trion-35 for what I used the 30 for last year.

Pflueger President - I have one and it's been a great reel. Size is dependent on what you're looking to use it for.
