Old memories...
You and I might have been 'neighbors' during that period. Mid 60s-early 70s, we'd do a 3-year cycle. Cape Cod, Kennebunkport ME, and...south end of Winnipesaukee. Good times. Lived in Worcester at the time.

Stripping Off Old Line ~
I've only got 8 rigs, one of which is keeping it's line - 50# braid. But I have better things to do with my time than unspool reels by hand.

DVT ?
I'd say 'Diawa or Pflueger', but that's just me.

what's worse?
Losing it after you've seen it. Had that happen to me last season. Got it near the boat, looked to be a bit over 2#...wanted to put it in the cooler. Just before I had it netted, it shook the hook and took off.

DVT ?
Ya...for an 'amateur', A-Jay's a little obsessive about rigs.

Rod & Reel Arsenal Setup: line and rod choices
Western suburb of Minneapolis. I actually live on an island in Lake Minnetonka - county road with bridges connects the island to the mainland. Just down the road is a shore fishing spot on Black Lake that is busy with people catching sunnies and crappies all the time. Right now it's iced over, and portable fish-houses go up on it every day...and they get sunnies and crappies all winter long too. My neighborhood.

DVT ?
The one time I PM'd a question to him about an old reel - he got back to me within a day.

CHEAP BASS LURES THAT WORK
I got a President 25 as a gift from someone here last year - that's on my UL rig that I use for Neds. The 35 I just picked up from FFO (Pure Fishing's Factory Outlet) for $19.

Time for a power fisherman to buy a spinning combo, HELP!
Quick answer - it acts like a BC now. Long answer - all they did was remove the switch - anti-reverse is 'always on'. Just that some people like to be able to turn it off and 'back-reel'. The reels that don't have the switch, don't have this ability.

Time for a power fisherman to buy a spinning combo, HELP!
Basically - with the switch on, it acts just like the anti-reverse on a baitcaster...any line 'given back' to the fish comes from the drag. With the switch off, the handle WILL operate in reverse, giving line back at the user's discretion. I've never switched mine off in 50+ years of using spinning reels, so I don't see the need for it.

Fake Fishing Gear Reviews On Amazon - My Story
Good 'review', @schplurg. I may buy from Amazon, but I don't trust their review process...never have. TackleTour, *** , and oldies but goodies like Field and Stream and Outdoor Life are where I go for reviews on gear.

CHEAP BASS LURES THAT WORK
Currently, I have two Trion setups. One is a Trion-30 on a Dobyns FR702SF - this is my general finesse rig. The other is a Trion-35 on a M/F Aird-X. Last year, the 30 was on the Aird and used for small cranks/jerks, light t-rigs, wacky and light jigs. I've been thoroughly impressed with my Trion, which is why I bought another...darn good reel for the money.

At least you still can get here with the cell-phone. Think if it was 25 years ago and you didn't have that...

Time for a power fisherman to buy a spinning combo, HELP!
If you're going to be doing mainly lighter techniques -then a M or ML would both work...the ML more for Ned and light Drop-shot, but the M for light T-Rigs, any jigging and shakey-head...but both WILL work for all those, just not ideal I'm not a fan of XF, only rod I have that's not a F is my cranking rig. Far as the reel - depends on how much line you want and how fast you want to retrieve it back...both are usable for all the techniques you listed, just the 3000 holds a LOT more line. my Trion-30 (close to 2000 size) holds 110yds of 10# mono, but the Trion-35 (close to 3000 size) holds 155yds of the same. Also, the larger reels at the same gear ratio retrieve faster. Both of mine are 5.2:1, with the 30 taking in 25.9IPT and the 35 taking up 28.5IPT.

Pure fishing buying more brands
Well, ya - Berkley acquired Fenwick in 88, Garcia in 95, created the 'Pure Fishing' label in 2000 and grabbed up Johnson...yada-yada-yada. Jarden bought the whole schmeer in 07.

Pure fishing buying more brands
Pure Fishing has owned Garcia and Berkley - along with Stren, Penn, Shakespeare, Pflueger and other brands for years. https://www.purefishing.com/our-brands/ PF was originally owned by Jarden, purchased by Newell-Rubbermaid in 2015, then sold to Sycamore Partners in late 2018

Actually, the FTC is much more stringent. What is the standard for a product to be called Made in USA without qualification? For a product to be called Made in USA, or claimed to be of domestic origin without qualifications or limits on the claim, the product must be "all or virtually all" made in the U.S. The term "United States," as referred to in the Enforcement Policy Statement, includes the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories and possessions. What does "all or virtually all" mean? "All or virtually all" means that all significant parts and processing that go into the product must be of U.S. origin. That is, the product should contain no — or negligible — foreign content. https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/complying-made-usa-standard
