  1. I know some info has been in the bantam vs metanium thread but I thought we could update future info here. I searched so if there's already a thread please delete this. I know the reel test on YouTube has had some pictures that were posted here. I'm currently actually wondering what differences there may be,especially since the jdm metanium mgl can be had now under $300 usd
  2. I like it, still won't buy it unless it's highly reviewed
  3. I'm trying to find ways to fish what feels like impossibly thick grass. Is anybody using 1/2 Oz or heavier swim jig through the grass? Does it get bit? What type are you using?
  4. I'm interested on what type and weight you guys use for pitching into coontail holes. I tend to want to pitch a light swim jig head with a rage craw to get a slow fall into the shallow hole. I feel like the swim jig head would give you the best opportunity to clear the jig while also giving you the option to swim in and out to the next hole. I'm think of this in lieu of a whacky senko falling on the hole. I'd think a 1/4 Oz with a rage would be the slowest fall you could get while having enough weight to get the rage moving. The is a separate method from ripping a heavier swim jig through the grass.
  5. Don't let the fact that the 893 is tip heavy deter you. It's a magical rod, just fishs better with a reel that balances it imo
  6. I have the two aldebaran mgls, a chronarch mgl, metanium mgl, curado DC, curado K and a few bantam mgls. I also have the 893. I wanted to like my aldebarans on it but in the end it just didn't work. My aldebarans have been switched to ultra light rods for me not because of their capabilities but the weight. I also fish braid and braid to leader. My aldebarans pair beautifully with my one ten special and my kistler h3 7'1 MH. When you put it on the 893 to me it's very obvious the setup is out of balance. Trust me when I say I want the lightest combo in my hand but if it doesn't balance it truly doesn't seem light. I even ended up not using my metanium due to imo the 893 being heavy towards the tip. It balances for me best with my bantams, sure the metanium would be great but I wouldn't aldebaran. As for braid, smackdown is great but I've found anything under 40lb is fragile due to its thickness and smoothness imo. I've since switched to power pro max quarto in 40-65lb tests. I like the low carrier count in the power pro, especially for grass. I use either straight braid or whatever leader I'd like. I personally see a tad struggle with "long casts" with a 1/4 jig on an 893. Something like 3/8 gets you a little more distance. Hope this helps
  7. I agree. Florida seems like the best option
  8. Lake County Florida on the Harris chain is doable but not a super ideal population.
  9. LOL I'm aware. Figured I'd ask the experts
  10. I've been trying to find a long term place to settle as my goal for the future. I am aware that I may have to leave the company I work for some day to live in the location I want. Problem is I want to live on the water and the wife has two priorities. Her #1 is population, the bigger the city the town the better and my #1 is I want a dock. I want to live on the water. A bonus for her and somewhat me would be close to the beach as well. That could be ten minutes or an hour. Also, the water can't freeze, ever. Having the possibility at fresh waster and brackish would also be a bonus. Not even sure if that's a thing. Living on the water would mean a sub 500k house by today's money standards. Let me know your thoughts!
  11. I agree, no way on the 8lb fireline. Personally I struggle with anything under 40lb smackdown on high end shimano reels.
  12. You're in my prayers
  13. Yes, i punched open a swim jig that I like. I'm currently waiting on blades
  14. Diawa Tatula LT 4000 weighd only 7.2 ounces and had the body size just slightly above the shiamno 2500 series
  15. Thank you for the recommendations. You must have not seen the tatula LTs. The 4000 tatula lt is just a smidge larger in overall size than shimanos 2500 offerings. It also is equal to or lighter by several ounces that any shimano 2500s with the exception of the ci4+. I would think a small reel in the LT range wouldn't balance at all with a MH-H action spinning rod. Fyi not that it matters but I'm a big shimano casting reel fan boy.
  16. He's not huge, why? He just needs something for the grass and topwater in general. All my rods are finesse
  17. $150 or less. Was looking at the avid warranty because I can trade an unused avid for a new one or avid x for a total out of pocket of $95-$105. Will consider other options though and price points
  18. I'm in search of a spinning rod that my nine year old can use in the thick stuff. Naturally all of my heavy gear is casting. I'd like him to be able to throw the smaller frogs including something like the teckle but the rod not be cumbersome or too long. It would be matched up with a diawa LT 4000 that I have with braid. I'd love to use the st. Croix warranty and swap out an old unused avid but I don't think the MHs of the avid or avid x would be stout enough.
  19. Outside if the random breaking I've heard great things, I haven't fished it but for jerkbaits I'm sure it's very nice. My buddies fish a few of the Levantes and love them. Extremely light. I am concerned though that they aren't listed on tacklewarehouse at all now.
