Backreeling revisited
Everyone had them. However that doesn't mean the design wasn't flawed. All people use to drive without seat belts as well haha. Spoke with Shimano and they said it was an area for intrusion of water, dirt, debris. Sealing off any area will always be better to keep the internals oiled and greased without intrusion of outside elements. In addition, I know a couple different people have broken the switch and had to call Shimano to repair as the switch broke (no idea how). I think Daiwa kept them as they saw Shimano got a small kickback but who knows. Personally, I think Shimano got it right. But that's just me.

Backreeling revisited
It was for good reason. Having the switch is an area where water, dirt, debris can come into the reel thus degrading performance. I will never understand the benefit of backreeling. I agree 100%. Don't see the benefit.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG HERE?
I would try to walk off the entire spool. Don't touch the line and allow the anchor point (whether someone or if you hooked it to an object). Ensure the knot on the spool is centered and pay attention to the level wind when reeling in. Ensure tension is applied. It could be you are applying side pressure thus pushing line off to the sides. Ensure you are overspooling as well

Big Game Keeps Breaking
Often times, the line sits around especially at Wal Mart, Amazon, etc (anywhere bought in bulk) and degrades. Another thing could be that you are stretching the mono beyond limits which reduces it's strength. Try and buy a different spool and see if it helps.

How do Dobyn's compare to St. Croix's?
Whenever I recommend rods St Croix is always on my list. Great products and even better customer service. Premium rod companies for me (as I have lived all across the US) include Shimano, St Croix, G Loomis, Megabass, and Daiwa.

Rods - Big company scale advantage or small company overhead advantage?
The owner came on here and said they don't build there blanks. He said, "We do source our rod blanks from 5 different factories. Our rod blanks are proprietary and built to our specs based on the type of fiber and actions we want."

Have felt both are they are both amazing. Not sure on the bearing placement but the Kage did feel and look very good. But yea it has more bearings than the Tatula LT

looking for new jig rod. NRX 894 balance?
Go with the GLX 894C. Balance is perfect and sensitivity is awesome. I wouldn't go custom personally.

2020 Shimano Metanium Thread
Leaked information is not always accurate. For example, remember when everyone thought the SLX MGL was coming to the US last year? It never happened. I have heard some info saying it won't be brass but some saying it will be. We will know shortly for sure

Yes sir! I'm lucky. The doctor even said partial seizures are much easier to manage and deal with than being a diabetic which surprised me. Very happy! Getting my buddy to take me this Sunday fishing and I will be sure to show off my fish as I haven't gone since that incident on December 18th. I wasn't sure what was going to happen but I thought I lost my license for 6 months to a year. Just glad I didn't hurt anyone or myself and didn't do much damage in the process. Glad to soon be back on the water and driving again.

Received Bad News
Finally received the news. Diagnoses is partial seizures. EEG would abnormal brain activity in my right frontal lobe. I am now medicated (Aptiom) and can't drive for a month until cleared by the doctor to see how the medicine does. I will back on the water and road (hopefully) very soon.

With the doctors with wires everywhere on my head. Don't know the next time I will be fishing, but catch them for me! As a kid, I never understood how to not take things for granted, starting to open my eyes as I get a little older. Be thankful!
