  1. Congratulations to father and son!
  2. I’m also one who’s happy at 40MPH. I bought a new boat in 2018 with a 90HP motor. I spent $2600 on a trolling motor, over $5000 on electronics. For $1700 more I could have upgraded to 115HP but never really considered it. Some people like fast boats just like some people like fast cars. I don’t care for either but to each his own.
  3. Judging from the photo I’d say that steak weighs 11 oz.
  4. Wow what a fish! Can I borrow your dogs for my next fishing trip? Congratulations there is something special about a big smallmouth.
  5. If I understand you correctly the wire will be 2 ft at most. 6 gage should be more than enough. Basically you’re prewiring a jumper cable on a switch. If you look at jumper cables they run from 10 gage to 4 gage. The 4 gage ones are usually 20ft long.
  6. My storage looks exactly like this except all of my lures are in the tackle store bags I brought them home in. ?
  7. @Russ E said it very well. How you fish is key in choosing a TM. I love my Ultrex and have it linked to my two Humminbirds. I spend most of my time fishing off shore but I use the remote and the foot pedal 95% of the time to control the TM. The I-pilot link feature I enjoy the most is that it shows the trolling motor heading on the map. This is actually the feature I would miss the most if I didn’t have I-pilot link. Just about everything thing else can be done with the remote and is often easier with the remote. The main thing you cannot do on the remote is use the follow contour feature. I don’t use this as much as I thought I would when I bought the TM. I can’t overstate how much I love spot lock. It’s the killer feature that I can’t live without.
  8. I recently tested #20 Sunline Supernatural by tying it to a five lbs weight and lifting the weight from 12 feet above and measuring the amount of stretch from the point where the line was taught until the weight was lifted off the floor. I chose 5 lbs because this is typically what I would set my drag at with #20 test. What percentage of stretch do you think I measured?
  9. They are micro SD cards and they come with an SD adapter so they will work on either.
  10. They are universal. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE LATEST VERSION. A new version was just release. If you order from Humminbird you should be fine but if you order from a third party make sure it's the new version.
  11. I have two Solix. The touch screens are nice but get dirty fast. I sometimes use the eyeglass cleaning cloths to clean them at home. A microfiber cloth is a quick, safe, easy, and effective way to clean them on the water.
  12. Lakemaster hands down. You have the option to buy individual Lakemaster maps online and make your own SD card. It requires a SD card (around $7), a computer with an SD card reader, and some technical knowhow. It's cheaper in most cases to buy the regional card unless you only fish 2-3 lakes.
  13. I think it's the rules more than the conditions. If you need 40 dinks to win, you hit the bank hard with small lures in the spring. Spinning gear is perfect for this.
  14. Welcome!
  15. It sounds like your buddy’s expertise is his engineering skills and his love/knowledge of fly fishing. He farms out the manufacturing to Asia and fulfillment to Amazon. That’s the type of people I want to buy from. An understanding of what anglers need and the ability to engineer a product to meet those needs translates into a product that improves my fishing experience. Someone who’s expertise is marketing might sell you a lot of product but won’t do anything to improve your fishing. No company can survive without marketing but there is a difference between fishing companies that farm out the marketing and marketing companies that farm out the fishing stuff. I want to do all I can to support the fishing industry not the marketing industry.
  16. Let me clarify in case you miss understood me. When I used the word “you” I was referring to anyone in the industry that does not want to reveal the source of their products. I was not referring to you specifically. I agree there’s a lot of misinformation out there and it’s impossible to know the truth in most cases. Designed in house might mean they picked the color of the reel they ordered on madeinchina.com.
  17. I’m just one potential customer but this issue is the primary driver in my purchasing decisions. There are too many companies in this industry that do nothing but market the same Asian made stuff as everyone else. In most cases it’s almost impossible to know the story on who designed and who manufactured a product. My thinking is if you don’t want me to know the story it’s because you have something to hide. It’s pretty clear with companies like St Croix that they are very proud of where their products come from. Go to their website and you can see the names and pictures of the people that made your rod. That’s why I’m a loyal St. Croix customer.
  18. 150 bass will make you tired. Sounds like a great day.
  19. Tackle warehouse doesn't carry all of them. On zoom website they have 4" - 5 colors 5" - 4 colors 6" - 46 colors 8" - 16 colors The 4 colors that you can get in all sizes are junebug, watermelon seed, green pumpkin, watermelon red I rarely fish clear water and I don't fish lizards when I do so I don't think my recommendation would help you. I will say my two favorites are junebug and pumpkin seed.
  20. I used to live in north AL and I have to agree the fishing is great. Guntersville and Pickwick are world famous. Weiss Lake is a very fun lake to fish. You left Wilson lake off your list. It's a great smallmouth lake that held the world record before it went to Dale Hollow.
