  1. Yes, We southerner are passionate about our football and we don't buy lures with names associated with our rivals. No offense to the good people of Auburn. You wouldn't buy a Rocky Top Spinnerbait now would you?
  2. I know I struggle with the question ask by the OP. I've said many times that you're better off focusing a few techniques but we are all tempted to try every new bait or technique. I think we truly improve when we realize a weakness and expand our skills to overcome it. You realize that you could catch more fish off a dock if you could get your bait further under the dock, then you find the right lure and technique to get you there. That's how it's really done.
  3. You’re not from the South are you?
  4. 1) I wear half length 2) Yes, I sometimes get hooks caught in them and it's a pain but a pain I’m willing to endure to avoid skin cancer. 3) I only wear them when the UV index is high.
  5. I will not use War Eagle baits! I don’t care if they catch fish or not. It’s a very poorly named company in my opinion. ?
  6. I have two Humminbird Solix and yes they can get pretty dirty. Sun screen is the worst when it gets on the screen. You can still do everything with the buttons if you like but the touch screen is just so easy. I keep a couple of microfiber cloths near by to clean them when they get bad. It only takes a second and does a great job cleaning the smudges off.
  7. @Lil Joe The Grinder I have found the maps I use to be very accurate. I have found errors with them but they are much better than anything else I’ve used. Every lake is different though. I’ve never been a fan of Navionics maps.
  8. Yes, I have it for my iPad and iPhone. I spend about 4 hours a day looking at maps on my iPad?. You can buy the same LakeMaster maps that are available for the Humminbird Fishfinder. Toledo Bend is $29.99. I can't say how it compares to other maps of the lake. I can say that if they took away my Kentucky Lake Lakemaster map and told me I would have to pay $2000 to get it back. I would pay the money. I'm not kidding. I've fished the lake for over 45 years and the day I got the LakeMaster map I felt like I got a whole new lake to fish. It's that much better than anything else I've seen. You can preview the Lakemaster contours for Toledo Bend here and decide for yourself. https://api.mapbox.com/styles/v1/bryan621/cj13qgbnz000h2rnzgv4ve6px.html?fresh=true&title=false&access_token=pk.eyJ1IjoiYnJ5YW42MjEiLCJhIjoiY2poN291cGRvMGFydDJxcGNhOWV6Y2R4NSJ9.mGYXiSzSQoI6_EJvP-aJ8g#13.4/31.304665/-93.658624/0
  9. Welcome to the forum and to the crazy world of bass fishing.
  10. Welcome to the forum. Many bass clubs allow non boaters to fish as co-anglers. You might want to check some local clubs to see what their policies are. They could have a minimum age which might be a problem for you at 14. Good luck!
  11. I do it different every cast until I find what works on a given day. I would say I've caught the most fish on a very slow retrieve with long (20 seconds or so) pauses between short movements.
  12. Nice fish. Welcome to the forum.
  13. Welcome to the forum forum
  14. Welcome to the forum. Crankbait, spoon, swim jig
  15. Man I can relate. Even my simplest projects require 5 trips to Home Depot.
  16. Obviously not all young people are lazy and not all old people are workaholics. I know plenty of people in their 20s that make me feel optimistic about the future. That said, the general idea that some on this thread are expressing does have merit. Here’s a stat that I heard a while back on an economics podcast that l listen to. I looked it up to make sure I got it right. In the year 2000, 8% of men age 21-30 without a college degree reported that they had not worked in the past year. By 2015 that number rose to 18%. For the most part these guys live with their parents and spend much of their time playing video games. http://www.econtalk.org/erik-hurst-on-work-play-and-the-dynamics-of-u-s-labor-markets/
  17. I've been very luck in retrieving rods that have gone overboard. Lost one overboard at night in 20ft water way off shore. I immediately dropped a buoy, then tied on a treble hook with a carolina rig weight on top of it. I hooked the rod in less than a minute.
  18. I think it's safe to say that this bacteria is in everybody of water in the country. Why it get's some people is a mystery. I know it's more likely to get you if your immune system is weak. But just to be on the safe side, I recommend that everyone stay off the Tennessee River for a few years, especially wake boats and jet skis.
  19. How far can you throw the frog? Have you used #15 Power Pro on this reel before on other rods? Oh...and welcome to the forum!
