Went to the store. Interesting observations
If by substantial, you mean heavier and made with more material, you should seriously consider getting acclimated to avoiding anything substantial. Bass fishing is much better with lighter, more sensitive gear.

Palomar knot troubleshooting
I’d get rid of the line and follow that up with getting rid of the knot.

Useful Knot to Know
Haven’t seen this one in years, don’t know what it’s called? but it’s good to know.

Soft plastic responsiveness
Whenever I read one of these, I just keep thinking of 2 specific movements and shapes that I know bass key in on that are not produced by anyone. One day, I will cast my own molds. One won’t be that hard. It’s just a matter of making the molds. The second one, is probably either beyond my skill level or is going to take more time to perfect than I’ll ever have.

Left alone or harassed
He was not drunk. He was a crazy guy that was harassing everyone waving knives in their faces. I am not that kind of troublemaker, I don’t go around getting into fights with people, but I don’t take to that as well as other people do. I think after that that other people must’ve made reports to the police. Because there was at least 15 or 20 people there at the time. He did not succeed at stabbing me. Over the next few months the police really cleaned the place up.

Are bass spiteful and moody? Also they smell good
I have never witnessed a bass hit a crank bait without an obvious look of ticked off on its face. So I assume that they aren’t biting them thinking they are food.

Left alone or harassed
I had a guy try to stab me about 13 years ago.

First Fishing Since 1983
Everywhere’s different, but that’s usually how it is. I understand not giving up spots that are based on your own scouting and experience. But well known public spots are not exactly secret. There’s like 15,000,000 people out there to show up in places if fish, because I fish a lot of underrated, obvious places that everyone knows about. This is why I can’t post pics of me bragging of what I caught where. There are thousands of people out there that have seen me, stopped and chatted with me and who helped me out over the years. I don’t need to draw thousands of people to well known places that are under fished because everyone knows about them. A properly placed report can overrun a spot in my area with people for years. I happily tell people places to try, when it’s a private chat near the water. I’m just a regular googan for when I’m out there. With no clue.

Daiwa BG 2000 Low Drag
4.4 pounds of drag will handle nearly every fish you can find thats under 50 pounds. The drag set by placing the reel on a machine is also lower than the drag pressure when attached to a bending rod. At 2 pounds of drag you’re probably getting 4 pounds of drag when your rod Is bending when you fish.

6th Sense treble hooks are nearly indestructible
I took a 4/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hook to the right index finger. Felt like the point was scraping the bone. Having seen other people suffer cutting hooks or poking the point out through a second hole and cutting the eye off the hook, to push it through, I decided, in a millionth of a second, that since I was holding a ball of hooks and sinkers that were all attached to other people’s rods, that I should just pull it right back out. And I pulled it right back out as fast as I possibly could. Faster than I would always be afraid to remove a band aid. And that was it. Two minutes later I was back to fishing like it never happened. As far as the 6th sense hooks go, they look good to me, but I’m not testing them by taking a second hook past the barb.

First Fishing Since 1983
Talk to the guys in the BT stores. About half of the old guys who look like they have no clue about what they are doing will know a few places to go that have fish. Tell them you’re new to the area and what fish you want to target. Then when you’re out there and the guys in their late teens/early 20’s ask if you got anything, tell them you’re new to the area and what type of fish you want to target Half of the places they tell you to try will have fish. Eventually, between that and looking for places yourself, you’ll start to find the places to fish.

Cops, Sheriffs, Deputy's, any LEO
Rough one today. My neighbor across the street’s wife died from Covid at the end of January. He was tearful telling me, my wife and next door neighbor the story today. He’s a retired police officer. Said he didn’t think he would’ve made it through those first few weeks if he didn’t get calls from a bunch of other people he had worked with over the years. He said people were calling him from way back on his first assignments going back like 50 years ago. Said it really helped.

The official "Who's drinking tonight?" thread
Still have a good amount of 12 year Glenmorangie. After neatening up everything around the house, yard work, doing laundry, and cooking bacon cheeseburgers, with home made bacon, that I smoked yesterday (glazed in salt, maple syrup, brown sugar & the whiskey, smoked with apple and hickory), which all basically means I made bacon cheeseburgers that took 2 days to make—I’m having another ounce or two of the whiskey right now.

Just invite him in. If all it takes a a skirt on a hook to lure him away, it was never meant to be.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Never made it out today, between yard work and talking to my neighbor, who basically had my wife and next door neighbor in tears telling us the story of how his wife died from Covid 3 months ago. Very sad. Hit a local boat for striped bass last night, after a few good reports. With 60-70 people on board there were 3 stripers, 2 blue fish. And Me (and my son) like:

I have to try that. I don’t like bourbon, but I like scotch made with bourbon barrels.

Watery grave
Never. But I’ve seen several rods shoot into the water like a bullet over the years.

New reel
Never fished it, still waiting for the Curado BFS I have on preorder. As far as I know, these are probably the same reels in different colors, but the scorpion is .4 oz lighter.

Scotch drinkers...
After the last two extremely busy weeks at work, with take out from a decent place tonight, I went with the Glenmorangie 12 year La Santa. With 2 ice maker ice cubes, the smoky woodiness tastes just like it came from a well seasoned, sun parched, wooden dock somewhere that you’ve been fishing before, at some point in your life. Anyone who’s been fishing their whole life would recognize that flavor in this stuff, from somewhere you've been before.

Shimano drag washers
Didn’t know that, but I did notice the dryer scratchier feel to the stock carbon washers, which almost feel like charcoal fiber. I also noticed that the stock washers work better dry and get a matted varnished type of look to them when greased. Now you have me questioning whether or not to put carbontex in my next reel when it comes? Which has been SOP for me.
