  1. Well done. If you have a trained thumb, there are far better reels to drop $250 on. I do love the noise and use mine often but I wont ever buy another dc.
  2. https://www.carid.com/rhino-rack/conduit-locking-end-cap-1-piece-for-100mm-pvc-pipes-3-9-mpn-lse100h.html?view=604133&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4s7qBRCzARIsAImcAxb3XZELolvxY2p8Hc_M_lKEJCaEhoFALTc2LWlBoP8RPui8WPTeRvwaArHJEALw_wcB
  3. I too looked as well and found something for less than $200 but it was $500 for my roof racks so I didnt do it. It took me a couple days to find it. I'm pretty sure it was lockable and held rods to 8'. I'll see if I saved it.
  4. Anything. They are polished turds. You can get the same reel off Wish for $10. Deal? Anything will catch fish. A hook tied to a string wrapped around a stick included. Maybe they should market this ingenius idea, put a purple camo wrap around it and sell it for $40. Name it the "Sick Stick". It would be the hottest gift under the tree come christmas morning.
  5. Anyone want to go in on 4 zbones? You cant even get an xray blank for this price! There appears to be plenty in stock. They havent been in stock at all until today. This sale is once a year. 40 hours left... kistler of course 40% off order > $900 45% off order > $1800. 50% off order > $3600.
  6. I need a couple reels. I have a Bantam on the short list. I'll grab this one too. Thanks for the recommendation. A medium will handle any "finesse" jig no matter the weight. What makes them finesse style is a light wire hook and most have fancy skirts to easily distinguish them in a tackle box full of jigs. With too heavy of a rod and a good hookset, you will bend your hook.
  7. Get a good reel and line and dont worry about it. Or better yet, get a finesse baitcaster rig.
  8. Ugly stick elite ML for $50. Pluegar President for $40. If you need 2 rigs buy 2 of the same and you will have money left over for line. Anything less that MH is going to have great sensitivity no matter the price and the weaker the power the greater the sensitivity. I personally use casting gear for your intended purposes but I am pretty much alone in the stance against spinning gear and your $200 budget barely covers the reel it takes to chuck those light baits.
  9. Why the need for bomb casts? Are you my long lost siamese twin that tries to set PB with casting distance when the fish arent biting? Man I've lost a lot of lures and caused lots of hours of picking out backlashes with this habit. To our credit though people like use experiment with all settings to learn the limits of our gear so when we need to max it out, we can.
  10. Dude how long did it take you to write the OP? I gave up after about 2 sentences and my jaw dropped when I had to scroll down for 30 seconds. Bottom line is training your thumb. It's not like you take it to the gym or scroll down peoples long posts. It means you stop the spool before the bait hits the water and you also let your thumb ride just above the spool, and if you feel line bouncing, you know a backlash is coming. I dont know when I learned to use a baitcaster but I didnt touch a pole in 20 years and my thumb knew exactly what to do when it was reacquainted with a BC a couple years ago. To me, the DC is pointless, but I have one just because it's new and expensive. Yet another example of me wasting my money in this game. I can cast lures half the cost much further. If you rely on a computer to stop your reel you will learn nothing. TL:DR The art of fishing boils down to one thing... confidence. If that DC makes you confident, you will catch fish.
  11. The tale of my first boat... I took possession at 7pm. I put it in my slip at 9pm. I came back at 7am and it was underwater... bad bellows. The engine was flushed with 10 gallons of oil and it was fine. These things are made for wet conditions. I think you are going to be fine. I too would like to hear what happened. If it was from some wakeboard boats wake, I feel really bad for you. I wish there were some no wake lakes around here. I am afraid to take anything less than 20' out. I really want a kayak but I don't know where I could safely go with it.
  12. My first good rod was Dobyns. It was an addiction. Luckily I broke the cycle to see what else is out there. Now I own alpha angler, diawa, and dobyns. Gloomis is next. I want a Kistler and Megabass as well. It's a great time to be an angler to have such a thick variety and competition to keep the prices in check. There is lots to choose from at every price point. Its hard to imagine how people were able to fish 20 years ago with only a few manufacturers to choose from.
  13. I think there is no correlation between height, hand size, race, or creed and rod size. As long as you are confident in your technique, you will catch fish.
  14. Mediums are for more finesse techniques and Light jerkbaits. For jigs a MH for light cover And Heavy for heavy cover for sure. The lightest I have is a M-MH and it is for weightless plastics, ned rigs, drop shots etc etc.
  15. That fury 735 is going to be a broomstick. Much more than my broomstick which is the fury 734. Broomstick = no sensitivity. Once you get over medium power, cost accounts for pretty much sensitivity. I'd get at least the champion rod and downgrade the reel if that's your total budget. You can get a champion 734, which will be plenty for 1/2oz jigs and less and maybe even 3/4oz + trailer for $200 if you look hard enough. I assure you that fury 735 will be collecting dust or be your frog rod within a month. My 734 has sat since its first trip put. I keep trying to assign something but it just doesn't suit my taste in sensitivity and action. YMMV
  16. I dont like the tws. The first one I had I fell going down a steep bank to get to the river and it got a little sand it in and fried it. If you baby it it's great. I have a curado dc on my other tatula elite and it looks good too so I would imagine a curado K would look good. I havent thrown anything light on the K or the DC but I've read that they throw light weight just as good as the SV. I wont buy another TWS.
  17. Its soul mate... tatula sv tws. Good looking combo and what it was made for... Chucking light bait.
  18. I agree that its M/MH rating seems high for finesse but its rating is true as far as 1/8 is concerned. It's mainly my standard 5" weightless senko rod but I also throw 4", 1/16 neds with regular trd, 1/8 drop shot, 1/4oz jigs, and anything else I feel is small enough as any reason I can get to fish it I do. Its super sensitive and I havent lost many fish with it. I use light wire hooks and dont bend them, but dont really need to set the hook too hard. They pretty much hook themselves unless it's a phantom bite. I also use the EWG superlines and have no issues with them either. I assure you that this rod is what you are looking for. It's the rod I got when I was thinking... I dont need spinning gear for these light presentations. I dont do vertical presentations as like you I am stuck on the bank for now.
  19. If you already have a MH get a 5 or 6 power. I have a dobyns champion dc736c for frogs and flipping. It walks the heck out of a frog and can dig them out of the nastiest slop. You can find it for around $200 at times. If you want the ultimate end game jig rod save up for an nrx 894. That is what I am doing now. Surely it can frog as well. For $80 you can get a kvd crankin stick. You dont need to drop a lot of coin on crankin as long as its moderate action.
  20. I only succumbed to getting spinning because of peer pressure here. I posted a thread about it here and went from wanting the MB Whipsnake to getting the Alpha Angler wrench. I do not regret my decision. I think I paid around $250 on amazon for the tatula awhile ago. Here it is at full msrp. I'm sure a deal will come around. I just stole an ags 7'6" on amazon for $170. What sucks about the elites is that there are no reviews. The finesse is my favorite rod by far. I'm sure that will change when I get an nrx 894 next month. https://m.tackledirect.com/daiwa-tael701mmhxb-ags-tatula-elite-ags-rod.html
  21. I don't regret getting the tatula elite ags finesse casting rod. It throws everything I do on my spinning gear including neds, 1/4oz jigs, and 4" weightless senkos. It casts maybe 20% less than my spinning setup but I have never had an issue with not having enough distance. I like the spinning setup for skipping light baits and that is all I can say that it does better than the tatula rig. The BC gear is much more of a joy to use. I hate spinning. I say go for it. You have cash if you are talking nrx. If you find yourself needing a spinning setup get it next season... or sooner.
  22. Budget and sizes of lures please? Also do you plan on flipping or frogging in heavy cover? 3/8 - 1/2 oz is a 4 power. 1/2 -1oz is a 5 power. Frogging and flipping is a 5 or 6 power. Treble hooks is a moderate action rod power depends on weight. You really need 3 rods to satisfy your techniques well or you can just get a MH and roll with the punches. I forewarn you now. If you are new and posting here looking for 1 rod you will be back in a month looking for 5 more. Get out while you still can and go buy an ugly stick and catch fish.
  23. I think the h3s are all fast action. The rod you linked to would be a good shakey head and weightless senko rod in open water. You dont need that kind of sensitivity for your intended purposes. The reel and feel is fine. The H3 line is for bottom contact and flipping where ultimate sensitivity is needed to detect strikes. As I said earlier, if you need a jig or worm rod wait til kistler has another sale which will probably be this week and get an h3 and a great discount on your reel and feel. Just add yourself to the mailing list.
  24. Those reel n feels go on sale all the time. Yesterday the buy a rod get 50% off reel and feel ended. Last week it was buy 2 rods get a free reel and feel. You could have got an H3 MH for jigs and the moderate action pole for a great price. I think for your intended purposes you should find a 20% off Dobyns and get the dc735cb glass. Ebay does 20% off quite often and so do a lot of sports stores. I got the dc765cb a month ago for 20% off at sportsmans outfitters. You will like your Curado DC, but if you are an experienced baitcast thrower, it will be the last one you buy. I don't get any extra benefits from it but I sure love the noise it makes. It will be on my skipping rod once I have one. That is the only benefit for me as I am not an experienced skipper with BCs. It will be great for you to teach your family how to throw a BC. The next time I have $250 to drop a reel it will be a Bantam. As far as internet shopping and in store purchases are concerned, to me its not much of a difference. I can't tell if I like a rod until I fish it. I did however rule out the mojo bass series by just looking at them in store. I would rather take 100 reviews of a rod into consideration of how it fishes than go bend the tip in a store. Another thought... For the money you can't beat an Alpha Angler. Do yourself a favor and check out their offerings. You won't find their Chatterbound on their website because it was a special offering to people on the mailing list. If you google the Chatterbound, you will find it and they do have some left. I bet this is every bit as good as anything mentioned. Call Jake the owner up and see if it can do what you want. https://www.alphaangler.com/products/alpha-angler-chatterbound
  25. No sense in spending a bunch of cash for a frog rod. Heavy power and fast tip to work the frog and pull it out of heavy cover. The fury 735 will do fine. I use the champion 736 and love it.
