  1. Yes, the clip on the hook is just like the one on a DS weight. I used to tie the overhand, but quit doing it. I would lose the whole rig instead of just the weight.
  2. I can certainly see that! Thinking about your term a wash is close to what I was seeing.
  3. I use the tear drop weights, hybrid between pencil and round. For hooks I have both the VMC spinshot and Gammy swivel shot. Gammys are more expensive, but one less knot to tie and the down shot portion is a clip so they release there more often on a snag saving you the hook.
  4. As I understand it a “cut” is formed when an active creek or stream enters a lake at the back of a cove carving a channel adjacent to the bank forming a drop off that bass will set up on. I can visualize this easily. But what about coves where there is evidence of run off, but not of an active stream/creek being there in the past. The occasional flow of run off would not be strong enough to carve a channel. I’ve had boaters refer to these as cuts also and we would fish multiple areas like this during the day. There were drop offs in these, but they may have been formed by something other than water flow. So can the term cut be used for any drop offs in coves adjacent to the bank? Joe
  5. Thanks for the responses! Lots of food for thought! I have fished the split shot in the past, but had difficulty with bottom contact. Will give the traditional c-rig with a heavier weight a shot and see what happens.
  6. I’m wanting to try this rig and would like to get an idea on rod power and tip. It would not be a mojo rig, I would set it up like the traditional C-Rig with a 1/4 oz weight and fish it on spinning gear. The options I’m considering are a MH/F, M/F, or a ML/F. Which would be my best option? Joe
  7. Can swim jigs be productive in clear water reservoirs with rocky banks and no real grass cover to speak of?
  8. Oops, meant Petzl headlamp. Mine is 20 yrs old and still going.
  9. Petal & small maglites.
  10. I tried that Tom. With the recessed line tie, once I removed the split ring the snap would not go through the line tie due to the recess. That’s what prompted my question about the affect of leaving the split ring there and connecting the snap to it.

The tourney turned out great. Small club, only 5 boats & eight angles. Took 2nd with 5 fish limit for 9.94#. All the fish came on a shaky head with Robo FAT in either Oxblood Light Red Flake or Peoples Worm. Once getting bit on these I fished it practically all day. Tried TW, jig, and crank with no luck. Fish were both shallow (less than 15’) and deep (24-30’).
  12. I see what you’re saying. As a backseat it would allow me to use one rod over different applications by using the snap to change lures quickly.
  13. Started experimenting with snaps (Owner Welded Quick Snaps) on plugs. I do remove the split rings. However with the Lucky Craft jerkbaits the line lie is recessed and the snap will not go through the line tie. With these baits can I leave the split ring on and connect the snap to it? I’m using the #1 , 33# snaps and hope they’re light enough not to affect the balance of the lure. Joe
  14. Try placing two o rings side by side on the Senko. Then gently cross the rings to form an X, place the hook through the X just barely skinning the worm. Got to be careful crossing the rings, but it does work. I usually rig a few worms at home before I go out.
  15. My sister and her better half caught several good bass at 4 pounds plus this week. Some were on beds.

Tell me about it! It looked like a Phyllis Diller hair do.

Unfortunately I blew up my jig reel early. Note to self: Make sure to not have the thumb bar depressed when trying to get off a snag! Anyway, the guy I was fishing with caught several on a brown/purple. Both skirted and hula grubs.
  18. Becoming a confidence technique for me. When in doubt, shaky! What heads do you use? I’ve had success with Frenzy 3/16.
  19. Prefished this lake this week for an upcoming tournament. Thanks to all responders here regarding baits and lake info! We fished the Tuolomne River arm and Woods Creek. Fish were caught in the 10-30 range. I caught 8-12 fish, maybe half being over 12 inches. Keepers were in the 1-2 pound range, estimated limit was approximately 7-8 pounds. Not spectacular, but fun! Caught a dink on a popper early. After mid morning caught the majority of the fish on a shaky head w/ Robo Oxblood Red Flake FAT. Had one on a weighted wacky w/ 5” Senko #221
  20. Gonna try this one out real soon.
  21. Toying with the idea of cutting off the skirts on hulas, then using them as a jig trailer. The hulas are offered in a wider range of colors.
  22. Curious to know if any of you use these grubs exclusively as jig trailers? Joe

Thank you! Sounds like it’s gonna be fun!
