Bladed Jig / jig Box - Plano Edge
I see where you’re coming from, especially with small ji heads. The idea came to me with the OP’s post. Gonna give it a shot in my next tourney to see how it works. I did a dry run in my garage and they seemed to hold pretty well, although the box didn’t go through all the vibration it would on a boat.

Bladed Jig / jig Box - Plano Edge
I’m going to try placing a rubber band or hair tie across the top of the posts once jigs are set. You would have to remove and replace when changing baits. The thicker bands usually used to bind broccoli fit all the way across a row.

Kietech/Plano/Flambeau
I put Keitech and Rage Swimmer clam shells in a KVD Speedbag. Other plastics go in a wallet.

Sit or stand ?
Stand most of the time, because if I sit I may not get up again. I will sit if boater asks me to take the TM for a bit.

I’m curious to know if any of you use these for swim jigs? Are they weighted differently than swim jig heads? Joe

Any fishing spots in San Francisco?
Worked in downtown Oakland for several years before retiring. Used to walk around Lake Merritt. Can’t remember seeing a fish, dead or alive. Do remember people fishing it many years ago for stripers.

Frustration With Silicone Skirt Tabs
It is, but I can deal with separating those. It’s the billowing that drives me nuts. When I pull the tabs through the skirt tool the tabs end up in a jumbled mess. So far I’ve been using 2 1/2 tabs. I’m going to reduce it to 2 and see if that works better. Are all skirt tools the same inside diameter? Maybe a wider one would work better?

Frustration With Silicone Skirt Tabs
I know this is an odd question, but I was making jig skirts the other day and when I would put two tabs together on the skirt tool hook they would fly apart like birds wings. It was like trying to put two magnets together at the same pole, they would repel one another! It was really frustrating. Has anyone else had this occur and what causes it? The material is stored in Plano box slots out of the package by color in a garage cabinet. Joe

How much braid on my Curado?
This is what I use. I bought cheap mono in bulk to use as backing. I fill spool with it and use the reel capacity calculator to see how many yards of mono to strip off and replace with main line. As an example: My mono is .013” diameter and I want 75 yds of .009” diameter mainline line. I would walk off 35 yds of mono in order to get 73 yds of main line on the reel. Close enough. You have to fiddle with the calculator, but once set replacing the main line is only a matter of striping to the knot.

where to put the plastics!
I fish from the back in club tourneys and use a tackle bag for hard baits, terminal tackle and such. For plastics I use the Mustad binder you referenced. It is pretty sturdy and I like the two sides. Usually put worms in one side and craws/trailers in the other. It does fill up pretty quickly! Clam shells can be a problem, especially the Keitechs, although the Rage baits will fit. Sometimes I will use it in combination with Speed Bags, the Keitechs fit in these pretty well. Both binder and speed bag fit easily in the compartment the boater provides.

Just started making jig skirts myself. Since a lot of stuff is out of stock I just went with basic colors and started there. You can make some nice skirts by keeping it simple and they end up looking pretty good! Combinations of greens, browns, black, purple etc. A nice thing about fishing skirts.com is that they have a skirt builds section. You can check that out for some ideas using the basic colors you pick up.

Baby Steps
Update on the jigs made. I used them at a club tourney last week, unfortunately no takers! I do have a follow up question though. The skirt material is silicone and 55 strands. I noticed it didn’t flare well while in the water. If I reduce the strands to 45-50 would the skirt have a more pulsating action. I’ve seen articles and posts that rubber skirts are more lively, but can pose problems when storing, so I’d like to stay with silicone for the time being. Joe

Baby Steps
The pic doesn’t show it well, but they are trimmed to about the width of my index finger. Approximately 3/4”, that leaves a bit of the head and claws of a trailer exposed. Should they be a bit shorter? Joe

Baby Steps
Bands with a skirt tool. Kinda a PITA getting the completed skirt on the jig and then adjusting the strands. As I get better at it I’ll find o-rings or bands that are larger and easier to get on the head, then tie them with wire.

Baby Steps
After looking through past posts on skirt making I decided to give it a shot. These are my first two efforts. The Brown/Purple is 2 tabs Brown, 1/2 tab Purple. The GP/Brown is 1 1/2 tabs GP, 1 tab brown. How do they look to you more experienced at this? Are the colors in the right proportions? I wanted to keep it simple with color and color placement until I get more comfortable with the process. If I wanted to put an accent color in the middle would it show as a bar or would it show as the skirt opened up on the bottom? Thanks to all who have posted their experiences in the past/present on this subject! Joe

First cast jinx?
No. It gets the adrenaline flowing and stokes anticipation for the rest of the day. I’ve had days when it’s been good and others where things went south badly. It’s just how things are sometimes.

Do swim jigs need vegetation to be effective?
Are you talking about rip rap banks with some type of vegetation?

Do swim jigs need vegetation to be effective?
Many of the bodies of water I fish are foothill lakes with little vegetation and a lot of rocky banks. The water most often has high visibility. Will a swim jig work in these situations? Joe

Thanks for the reply. I have the Duolock snaps. Is there much difference between the two?
