OK - so how superstitious are you? I bring this up because tonight I landed a bass on my first cast and then for the rest of the 45 minutes I was out there I didn't even sniff a strike.

I believe. And I always make a quick ultra low percentage cast to shake it off on each trip. ?

You can't catch a fish on everything cast unless you catch one on the first cast.

If I catch a bass on my first cast, I throw all the bananas overboard and go home...

No.

I don't have any superstitions about fishing.

I’d rather catch one on the first cast than not catch any at all. Nope. I say it’s good luck when you catch one. No matter which cast.

I fish very small ponds that I know quite well so it's not uncommon for me to catch one first cast. It is uncommon for me to catch only 1 bass... A skunk us more common for me than a single fish. So no I don't believe its a jinx.

No jinx. If you catch a fish first cast, you feel so eager that your natural tendency is to speed up on the next cast.

   That doesn't work.

Rule of thumb: if you catch a fish on the first cast, slow the next retrieve down to what seems like half speed. Then you'll actually be about where you had been the first time.

Yesterday my first cast was to a 10-2. So even though the rest of the day was slow I didn’t care. My vote is no.

Right place at the right time. Plus add in your skill set. You deserve it.

The first cast catch "jinx" isn't anymore real than the universe caring that you have your lucky underwear on to determine your sports teams success (as if you're the one guy in the world who dictates this and, of all things, based on a clothing option).

It's not real. At all.

My first cast on my little lake is always to a high percentage brush pile that's off shore maybe 80 yards so it's quite likely my first cast will net a fish.  Along with my 2nd, 3rd, etc.  So no....I expect a fish on my first cast.

No. It gets the adrenaline flowing and stokes anticipation for the rest of the day. I’ve had days when it’s been good and others where things went south badly. It’s just how things are sometimes.

Perhaps I should have used some emoji's to indicate my post was tongue in cheek ?

The only superstistions I had were when I played college hockey. First one on and last one off the ice for games, and never, ever, let my goalie sticks cross in the locker room or on the bench.

And the lucky underwear thing. And the lucky t-shirt thing. I was pretty ripe under all that gear!

NO.

But I did catch a fish on my first cast with a whopper plopper.

I have never caught another one on it so...?

No it supports that I made a good decision where to start.

My most memorable 1st cast catch was sitting in my kayak waiting for my cousin to launch his boat in the river.

Simply slung a spinnerbait in middle of the river and WHAM.....4# smallmouth.

Cousin just laughed and said " well, doubt you top that today " and I didn't.

I don't believe in any jinxes or things of that nature.  The fish do not know if you caught a fish on your first cast.  They don't know if you have a banana in the boat or if you are wearing your lucky hat.  It's all in your head and it's kinda foolish.
