Up next this month. What finesse options are working? Gotta have a drop shot, but what about ned, neko/wacky, and shaky? As for reaction, planning on a popper in the morning and thinking on taking an underspin as well. Is there a jig bite? If so, what colors work up there? Thanks
  2. I do this too except I fill all reels using backing with cheap mono then use to tool to calculate how much line to strip off and replace with new main line. As an example: Reel filled with .013 dia. mono and I want 100 yds of .011 dia. main line. I would strip off 70-75 yds on mono and replace with new line.
  3. Have trouble with these too. Going to try twitching it with a side ways motion instead. It’s taking up the slack when working the bait that gets me fowled up.
  4. This for me also. Caught fish on them, but not as often as I would like. My PB did come on one though.
  5. I recently lost a nice fish on a jump. I had the rod in the water trying to reel it down. It was a team tourney and the boater asked me why my rod tip was down and made the suggestion that I should keep it up. I’ve heard it both ways so I don’t know either. I guess if you do either and you land the fish, you got a show and a nice fish. If you lose it you let out or get a stream of expletives deleted.

Was given an old rotating rod rack, I believe it’s a BPS model, and was able to get it into pretty good condition. However, some of the clips are worn and won’t hold rods securely. I hope they can be replaced. I’m assuming they are held in with brads, small nails, or maybe screws, but don’t know. Any of you out there ever replaced these on this type of rack? I wanted to get some information before I started jerking them out and possibly damaging it too much. Joe
  7. Tom, these two colors happen to be his favorites too! Do you use the GYCB 44 series? I think they come in Gammy & Owner hooks. I believe one is a 4/0, the other a 5/0. Similar size, one just happens to be lighter than the other. Joe
  8. My wife saw is not really the outdoorsy type. The other day she saw one of my rod/reel combos and told me this looks nice, picked it up and was flipping it around like she had a fish on. She was hitting stuff with it and I said, be careful with that. She said why, it’s only a fishing pole? I said, that’s a 500.00+ combo! She said, are you crazy! I thought she was going to hit me over the head with it! Seriously, she’s okay with the fishing purchases as long as the bills get paid and other essentials are taken care of.
  9. The reason for my question is that when a guy in our club says he was on a successful jig bite, he is always referring to a hula on a jig head. He never fishes a skirted jig w/ trailer. He says he used to tie his own jigs but gave it up a long time ago in favor of the hula. He is really successful with it and that begs the question as to what if any situations where one would be more productive over the other? Joe
  10. Placed an order 4/19 early. Got an email that it would ship that day. Checked the link for tracking and it indicated it would ship 5/3. Almost a 100.00 order so I opted for free ground. I’ve always gotten my orders within 2-3 days in the past, it’s just the backlog. I’m also in California, so I’m sure that has a lot to do with the current delays. What’s really frustrating is that many items are labeled No Back Order. I have my doubts that will clear up anytime soon even with Covid situation a lot brighter. We are now in the new normal!
  11. The ‘ol brass n glass. I haven’t used it recently, but should get back into it! Tom, does the color of the bead make any difference? I would assume that it would be a debate similar to using red hooks. Joe
  12. I’ll have to give this a try. Maybe a smaller dart head as well.
  13. I’ll have to check out the Secret Lures heads!
  14. I’ll keep working at getting the head in without tearing the bait. One of the tube head jigs I was using (VMC) was the same one I saw Ike use in his video on the rig with a 3 1/2 inch tube. Do they come in different hook lengths?
  15. I’ve used the 4.8 Keitech on mine, but I use the 3/0 3/16 FS with a 3.8 Keitech more often. I have seen a video where you can match hook and swimbait by holding bait head down to see where tail bends. Hook should emerge in front of tail bend so it won’t interfere with action of the tail.
  16. I have never fished this rig, but have tried rigging it at home. I always end up tearing the tube up when trying to reverse the jig head inside the bait. I’ve tried it with Bite Me and VMC Dominator heads using Strike King, Cabin Creek, and Zoom tubes in 3.5 inch. Also the hook extends beyond the end of the tube making rigging it weedless a problem. Is there a trick to doing this? Joe

Sorry for the confusion. Which of the pictured? My artwork is not the best!
  18. How do you guys place your hook when rigging it parallel with the bait, point out or point in next to the worm? Joe
  19. That would be the best way, except around here I’d have to cross at least two lines of traffic. Gonna have to find an open space somewhere. Something like a football field.
  20. Flipped braid on a bait caster easily. Getting it off initially with a drill motor by freespooling reel, then using an extra spool to reverse it, again with a drill motor. Can the first step be accomplished easily on a spinning reel with the stationary spool? Joe
  21. Thank you! If I understand what you are saying: say I’m fishing 10 FOW with a 3/8 oz jig and want a slower ROF I could try a 1/4 oz to accomplish this?
  22. I tied skirts onto 1/4 oz jig heads. When finished the jig weighed nearly 1/2 oz. Would these be considered 1/2 oz jigs? The weight, when finished, also went up with 3/8 and 1/2 oz heads. So is the finished weight the actual weight of the jig? Joe
  23. Thanks for posting this. Everything he said is so true. Miracles do happen, you’ve just got to believe they can. A pastor told me once if you ask God for anything he will say yes or no, never maybe. If the answer is no, you’ve got to believe He has a better plan for your life. That is why you have to take the time to tell everyone in your life that you love them and take nothing for granted. We never know when we are to be called. I know that I am guilty of not doing this and times like these are a major wake up call.
  24. Nice box though. I store mine horizontally, that may help some. Also, I only load the jigs I think I’ll use that day.
