Jig Skirt Material
I would like to start making my own skirts for jigs and would like some information on where to start. Silicone would be my preference. I've browsed a few sites on tackle making and there are many types off patterns to choose from; solid colors, barbed wire, solid w/ glitter or flake, natural pattern etc. What would be a good starting point and why would one pattern be used over another? Thanks....Joe

Living Rubber and Frog Hair Skirt Difference
Thank you. Yes, I found an article that explained it. I was given a few jigs by a guy who said they were living rubber. I see now that they have the larger square cut rubber. That’s what prompted my question. Thanks again.

Living Rubber and Frog Hair Skirt Difference
As the title suggests, what are the different characteristics between these two skirt materials. I’ve seen information that frog hair will puff out at rest, giving it a more lifelike look. Does living rubber do the same? Also, I’ve read about the potential of reaction between frog hair and silicone when stored together. Does this happen with living rubber? Thanks....Joe

That weird color of soft plastic that surprised you?
A club member suggested this color and it works! He said it was his Delta color, but it’s good in a lot of different water. A good bluegill color.

Storing Old Froghair Jigs In Plano Boxes
I bought a couple dozen frog hair jigs several years ago. I tried them and didn’t have any success. I know, I probably didn’t give it enough of an effort, but want to give it another go this winter. Anyway, they were stored by color in ziplock bags tossed in a plastic storage tub. They seem to have survived in decent shape. Can they be taken out of the bags and transferred to a Plano box for storage? Each color would get it’s own slot. There may be silicone jigs in the same box, but they would have their own slots as well. Would this work or would there be a reaction from the box or silicone? Thanks....Joe

How much bullet weight is necessary
If you need a 3/8-1/2 oz bullet weight invest in tungsten. In my experience that weight in lead/steel can be pretty big. For lack of a better description, they overpower some plastic baits IMO. Tungsten is more expensive, but much smaller.

Help With Scrounger Rigging
I bought several of the Jenko Tennesse River Tremors last year but didn’t fish them. Want to give them a try this year. I noticed these have a cross lock snap on them, while other brands don’t. Is the snap necessary to the baits action or can you tie directly to the eye? Thanks....Joe

Repairing pitted cork handle
I’ve used baby wipes for this, but the magic erasers sound like a good idea. For the rods and guides I’ve used Pledge wipes.

Suck at the alberto knot...Options?
I was struggling with the Alberto too! That’s why I asked about the Shinn Knot (see link referenced above). Tried that too, it seemed bigger to me than the Alberto. So I took some extra flouro and braid I had lying around and practiced the Alberto for a while. I used 7 wraps up and 7 down. After a while I found I could tie it pretty well. I use it now for all leader connections. The 7 wraps instead of 10 is working out well, no break off issues. Just make sure that when you finish it the lines exit the loop on the same side.

question for those using snaps/clips
I had trouble with those with good eyes! They almost seem microscopic!

Go-to saying before setting the hook
Usually don’t say anything. If partner hooks up I’ll say Net? a couple of times. If no answer I grab it anyway. That’s just about the time they swing the fish and hit me in the head with it!

Been searching Amazon for one, many options. Could you post the brand? I am curious if it is one of the ones I’ve looked at.

Line Choices For New SLX XT?
Got this reel from Santy and will be pairing it with a GLoomis IMX MBR 784 (older generation). Will be using it for jig and worm fishing primarily. But it would do double duty for spinnerbaits, underspins, swimbaits (keitechs), and medium cranks. I’m debating spooling up with 40-50# braid, or 15# Abrasx. Would braid or Abrasx be the best choice? I’ve never used Abrasx and the reason I chose 15# was that it’s diameter is the same as the Yozuri Hybrid I use now for some of my setups. Thanks....Joe

Where/how do you keep your "used" soft plastic baits?
I do hear you there Tom, buy new stuff all the time. Some of it I find and never realized I had it! But I can’t stop being somewhat frugal. I usually don’t buy multiple packs until it’s a somewhat proven bait. I’m headed in that direction though.

Where/how do you keep your "used" soft plastic baits?
Another idea is to use beat up plastics for another purpose. An example would be a craw that has a torn up body from rigging. If the claws are in decent shape I will cut them down and use them as a chunk trailer on smaller jigs. You can do this will 6” finesse worms also, cut them down to a 4” size.

Where/how do you keep your "used" soft plastic baits?
If they are still usable, back in the package they came from. I will use Mend-It to try to repair baits that get torn. If repaired well enough, again back in original pack, if not in the trash.

First fish you've ever caught
1# LMB, with a 5 1/2’ Quantum pistol grip rod with a very cheap Quantum bait caster. Still have the rod, reel long gone. Caught on a 4” curly tail pumpkin w/chartreuse tail worm t rigged. Don’t remember the brand. It was at Shadow Cliffs Lake in Pleasanton, CA. In the arroyo at the back. I was 50 at the time.

Is there parking close by? I see possible access at Barnhart Ave. and Ogier Ave. Can you park along these streets or are they private?

Costa Del Mar and Prescription?
I have been looking to get a pair of Costas for fishing as well as general use. Had an optometry appointment today and found that I would need glasses for driving. Unfortunately I’m covered through Kaiser and they don’t carry them. I would need to buy the glasses and get the prescription lenses through Kaiser. Anyone out there have experience with Kaiser’s lenses? Would they compare to Costa’s in quality? I currently use a pair of Maui Jim non-prescription and am not really happy with them. Would like to get the Costas. I’ve tried some on at Bass Pro and their selection of frames fit better. Joe
