  1. Mepps for spinners Rapala for crankbaits Berkley for worms/lizards Yamamoto for Senkos. Others - catch-as-catch-can
  2. Even here around Lake Minnetonka, probably the most fished lake in Southern Minnesota, the 'mom and pop' shops are dying. When I moved in, there were four within 15 minutes of me, now there's one...and it's the furthest away of those original four. Couple of the convenience stores have tried to fill the gap...some tackle and 'live' bait (refrigerated worms and grubs) but it's nothing like the old bait stores. Far as 'big' stores - there is a.....DSG within 20 minutes of me, so I get to go in and peruse what's out - though I usually buy from TW, Cabela's or BPS...whoever has the best price.
  3. Pfleuger Trion 30 mounted on a 6'6 M/F GX2 Ugly Stick with 12# Flouro I toss spinners, light Texas/Carolina Rigs, Diving hard-baits (Rapalas, etc), chatterbaits and medium weight jig-rigs with it. I don't see an issue with lures other than spinners from a spinning rod/reel combo. My two baitcasters are for heavier throws (Garcia Silver-Max on a 6'6 M/F GX2, 20# Power Pro) or punching into heavy cover (Pfleuger President on a 6'10 Lews MH/F SG-1, 50# Power Pro)
  4. Now if you could only get DOWN to them. (How long can you hold your breath?) I got about a half-dozen of them floating around the house.
  5. Or a canoe (I look at kayaks and wonder how DO those things not tip over. I know there's a science, but I can't get my head around it...they don't seem deep enough to be stable.)
  6. Thinking back I can remember the first plastic worm rig I used. I think it was sold as a Northern rig, but caught several 2-3# Largemouths with it Prop spinner, leading two in-line hooks; one about an inch back from the spinner, the other another four inches back. Rigged a 6" plain plastic worm on it, split shot weight a few inches in front of the spinner.
  7. HEY! I shower regularly, and my teeth are in good condition The 'bum' part might be right though. ?
  8. We'll see how well those cadets learned their lessons. :D
  9. Navy will 'drown' them.
  10. At least trim it back to before where the snag occurred. That's why I spool up 100+ yards on my mono reels, so I can trim as needed for a while before needing to completely re-spool.
  11. Welcome to another transplant to the Midwest - though I started in Massachusetts...many years ago. I'm also a recent joiner to this board, so far I've found quite a bit of good information and some pleasant chatting.
  12. That's the The Newport Vessels box which is superior to the Minn-Kota Power Center box. The Minn-Kota only has a circuit breaker for the aux-ports, not a main breaker so you'd have to add a breaker for the trolling motor. The Newport includes a 60A breaker for the main terminals. Neither has a built-in charger, so that's an additional purchase no matter which one you get. Also, Amazon has the Newport for $55 - cheaper than E-Bay...I never use E-Bay anymore.
  13. You mentioned a couple of the choices you've tried. Maybe it's as simple as they're wanting a Chartreuse instead of the Watermelon or Pumpkin Or maybe you're using the 4" slim and they're wanting the 3" fat They CAN be that picky.
  14. Fishing for me is a relaxing past-time, it's not the be-all and end-all of my world Sometimes I'll just plop a worm or minnow on the line, attach a bobber, toss it out there, and sit back and relax. This is my 'zen place', where the sounds of water lapping at the hull of my canoe combined with the occasional call of a loon relaxes me.
  15. I would not trust repairs to a transom done by a car-shop. The stresses involved in auto bodies is totally different than the stresses involved in a transom. Unless the guy who did the actual work KNOWS and is EXPERIENCED in boat construction/repair and did it properly, I'd trust nothing more than a trolling motor hanging off that transom.
  16. I looked over this as with someone who lost an eye to cancer I have some issues tying knots and such. I agree with OCdockskipper that it's something that might be useful to a small number of people, it's really just another way to spend money on something that MAY be helpful. The Fuji tool is another that, at least for me, is something extraneous. The minor issue with getting line strung isn't worth putting out money I could better spend on baits.
  17. You're welcome Of my six rods/reels, 3 have mono, 1 has fluoro and 2 have braid...depends on the situation as to what I use.
  18. Gotta be something else...I haven't watched TV in over 6 years so the subliminal messaging would have worn off by now.
  19. According to the site, they have the 10% discount all the way through Jan 7
  20. When my old Ambassadeur reel finally gave up the ghost this spring, I got a Pflueger President. Filled with 50# Power Pro, it never let me down when punching heavy jigs into growth. Having had Pflueger reels for years, I'm sticking with them.
  21. That may be, but the price of even their trolling motors is more than my canoe, trailer, Minn-Kota, battery and the mods I made (comfy seat, etc) put together. Some of us don't have near the budget for something like that.
  22. That thing weighs more than my rigged canoe with all my equipment in it.
  23. I've already sent 'requests' for TW gift cards to those who normally send me Amazon gift cards.
  24. Broiled fish and a good Irish Stout.
