$250 range for a rod - options at Bass Pro
The TBS610 MLXF and TBS610MXF are both really nice rods for your intended purposes. St. Croix is a great company to work with they really take care of their customers.

Knock off Whopper Plopper
That was a popular story when these baits were first released as bass baits. Thanks for sharing the information, probably some that were not aware.

Development !!
It is sad but it is the way things have always been. The generations before you probably had this same conversation about highways, streetlights, paved roads, and fancy people flying in those airplanes. What you are feeling is natural, as so is what you are experiencing. Our world is continually evolving, it happens over thousands of years, and our life span is so short we never truly get to appreciate it as much as we should.

Post a photo a day!
8 fish on Dec 21 in KS sounds like a good day to me. Good looking fish.

Winter Solstice is now behind us
Now that the sun has reached it's lowest point in the Southern Hemisphere, it will not move perceptibly for the next three days. It will then move to the North 1 degree which will signal it starting its move back to the Northern Hemisphere with warmer days to follow. This was a significant event in ancient cultures.

Reel tuning? Bearings?
Your line of thinking is very reasonable and very common. There is an experience that many users of upgraded bearings will most likely share with you. You will find that will upgraded bearings you will be able to use lesser amounts of braking due to the increased precision of high quality bearings. In other words, one of the many factors that cause inconsistent casting is the fact that low quality bearings are often used and in the case where a better bearing is used, they are almost never cleaned and lubricated properly.

Reel tuning? Bearings?
I was never a fan of the Hawtech bearings, that nylon cage always concerned me. In my experience one of the lesser benefits of a higher precision bearing is casting distance. In my use casting distance rarely increased a great distance, but I did find I could reach the same distance with a lot less effort. I could run significantly less spool tension and braking and my casts were much more consistent. I also feel that during the early days of ceramic bearings the benefits of lower startup inertia for BFS fishing were vastly overstated. In fact I felt like in my use the biggest difference maker in the area of spool start up was mainly due to being able to run ceramic bearings without lubrication. A lot has changed since I last upgraded the bearings in my reels, but I can still easily cast most of them 40 yards consistently without any real strain. Just sharing an opinion. You can ask the MFG of he reel, but that info could be misleading. Many of even the better reels in the past have used abec - 3 and abec -5 bearings routinely. With MFG practices being refined and the ease at which they can produce bearings that comply with the abec - 7 rating I would not be surprised to find them used in some instances.

Reel tuning? Bearings?
I am going to assume you are not talking about full ceramics due to their high cost and are asking about ceramic balls and SS cages and races. The two major differences that I have noticed in favor of ceramics is: they require a little less start up inertia, and provide a marginal improvement in corrosion resistance. To their detriment: they are louder, more expensive, and I find the performance gains marginal at my level of fishing. A good quality SS bearing properly cleaned and lubricated is really a very good choice for most fisherman.

How Much Does Full Moon Effect Day Fishing?
The only thing that I believe I have ever noticed is that sometimes I have fished during periods of full moon at certain places during the day and done a whole lot less than expected. I have tended to blame it on the fish feeding at night more and being a little less interested in my offerings. How do you prove that?

Mid-high end finesse/drop shot rod
I have debated for a while about making this post and finally decided that it might help someone. Over the years I have spent what amounts to a lot of money (to me) in pursuit of the perfect rod for this, and a fast enough reel for that. I have listened to the advise of Pro's, read reviews, had trusted friends ensure me that if I purchased this particular rod, reel, line, or lure that I would not regret it. Well guess what, they were all right, but not for the reason that I suspect you think. They were all right because each of the rods, were made by reputable companies, that use very good components and what was then the most current techniques to develop rods that transmit, rods that have great actions and reliable backbone. I enjoy each of these rods for a variety of different reasons, and to be honest some just have a sentimental value to me that probably far exceeds the actual praise I have heaped upon them over the years. I have come to the conclusion that I can and do use each and every one of these rods, for what ever I want to fish at the current moment (within reason) and they all work great. They work great because they are quality equipment, not because someone else said this one for dropshot and this one is for shakeyhead and so on and so on. Buy a rod that you like the way it feels in your hands, you like its appearance, balance, quality, one that when you pull it out of your rod locker and take the sock off of it you have no doubt about how it will perform. Those are the rods you will end up keeping for a long time if not forever. Here is a list of some of mine that I really enjoy fishing with for a whole lot more than what is listed on the blank. ST. Croix ES610MLXF TBS610MLXF TBS610MXF Loomis DSR 822S SJR 723 SMR 811S-SP NRX 822S SYR Fishing is a great hobby it can be so much fun, but sometimes we make it out to be something very technical and take a lot of what it is suppose to be for most of us average anglers out of it. FUN! Go fish and have fun.

Ever Green Crankbaits
Seems like I may have picked them up at the classic the 2nd time it was in Tulsa. I noticed on the box that they are distributed by Daiwa. I did purchase several Shower Blows Shorties back then, they were a very hot bait at the time, probably got theses at the same time.

Fact or Myth: Bass hate sunlight because they have no eyelids
You are correct that fish do not need to dilate their eyes, in fact they have no pupils which is the part of the human eye that would correspond to dilation. Fish rely on different chemicals in their eyes that respond to light differently, one chemical reacts to a small amount of light and recharges slowly, this is important for night vision. Another chemical found in the eyes of fish requires larger amounts of light and recharges quickly, this is important for color vision.

fish with anyone
Could not possibly limit it to one. I fish with my Grandfather and Grandmother every time I go out. For those still in earthly form the short list would be. KVD, R.C., Mike McClelland, Denny B., and Gary Klein. KVD - Spinnerbaits and Crankbaits R.C. - Crankbaits and Locating Fish Mike M. Jerkbaits Denny B. Jigs Gary K. Just for an all round enjoyable day of fishing. One of the nicest Men I have ever met.

Ever Green Crankbaits
Going through some things, I recently discovered some Ever Green Crankbaits that I purchased to use on a fishing trip several years ago. They are what use to be called the combat series or CR model. Anyone have any experience with these, I have a few from CR-6 to CR-10,

Fitzgerald stunner reel
I get the point you're making but using that same logic would that not also make a chronarch an upgraded caenan?
-
Fitzgerald stunner reel
I am trying to understand your train of thought here. Are you expressing an answer as a matter of personal preference or a side by side comparison either done by yourself or information gathered from other reviews. Would it not be possible for a company to request certain specifications be a part of their purchase order?

Bait restoration
A very diluted mixture of hot water and simple green can clean a lot of things. The problem is if you mix it too strong, the restoration will very likely require a repaint also.

What Dad wants for Christmas ~
I usually just let them know that I detest the commercialization of most holidays, and the things that I would truly enjoy have nothing to do with anything monetary or material. I also tell them that there is no need to wait on a specific date to share these things.
