I cut all line tie split rings off, and attach with a paperclip snap. Tactical anglers (tiny) or p-line depending on the bait/line/hooks. The way the paperclips are built there's just not really a way for pressure to cause them to fail until far beyond the line strength. The TA paperclips weigh about the same as the megabass 110 split ring it comes with - sits the same in the water. I don't think they run right with both the split ring and any kind of snap on it, but I can't prove it. Just seems like more forward weight and janky stuff moving around up there. I can't prove it though.
  2. I'm in for 10
  3. 7'6" st croix MH/ModF, 17lb tatsu, zillion Deps 7+ meter deep crank
  4. > I’m thinking either 6 or 8lb invizX. > Anna, TX Bravest man on BassResource right here. I'm impressed.
  5. If you decide you like the presentation, Jackall's Flick Shake might fit the bill.
  6. I pretty much had no choice but to give them a shot, given how good the 75x flatside is (and their cranks in general) are. I got the full water column for green-back, and what they had in wild lava craw which is a key color here. YAY no hook swapping!
  7. @Glenn take snacks like beef jerky (sealed of course) - I think you can get them through customs. I 'nearly starved to death' both trips. Meals, except for big elaborate dinners, tended to be way small and way ... wierd. I don't know how to say "look those are parts, they go in the bucket not on the plate" in Japanese. It's probably better now that it was way back in the day, but I just recall being hungry every day. And be prepared for re-entry to the US, where you'll really miss just how polite everyone was in Japan and how good the service is. I couldn't live there, but I'd love to go back.
  8. For general terminal tackle this box has been amazing. Waterproof, heavy plastic. I have three now. Those dividers are all removable. And for occassionally used things, this box is perfect. As an example, all my drop shot and ned terminal is in one of these below. It's probably 4x5x1. Outer lock is solid, haven't had it pop open.
  9. I had a bunch of tat sv's and a couple of the elites. I really liked the P/F but that was mostly because the handle was A+. If I were buying a new reel and had to be under the zillion class reels, my #1 priority would be the new gear cut so I think I'd just get the new 100. Feel on the reeling has such a dramatic effect on my experience though. I just go nuts with the geary. They all cast great. Obligatory comment: just buy the the JDM zillion. Easy to buy on amazon.co.jp or amazon.com if you aren't comfy with digitaka or whatever. It's ~225 and it's a whole 'nother class of reel. I have no preference for my lone Steez SV over the zillions.
  10. 3.3" keitech on a 1/0 owner flashy swimmer and as previously mentioned a ned rig also, try sneaking up on the pond generally i hear 40lbs/acre/year, but if the fish are still skinny you can take more. on water that small, better to under-do it by a little than over do it by a little, as 1/2 acre can be very fragile water most of those fish will be eating near the bank
  11. I think this year is going to be the year a shallow water fisherman drops the hammer in a tournament, using perspective mode. I'm watching all the guys that are heavy on vertical livescope start to fiddle with horizontal, add an extra transducer, etc. Imagine you are running down a 45 degree bank, boat sitting in 10fow, casting shallow. Unless they are dead still and in the dirt, you're going to be able to see whether there's a fish there or not. And if you are good or have the right color combo you'll still see a bounce from the fish vs the bottom.
  12. Just email Trey and ask, they are pretty good on these recommendations. I do think they have a true BFS line now too.
  13. 2.9 double digits* in three different lakes on the 75x, so it's hard to complain about. Their finesse f4 is louder and smaller, it fishes well too. I have some frittsides but no real time with them yet. I got them in 7 and 9 since I can't get the 75x there. Will learn more this late winter/prespawn whether they are big fish getters. *The .9 is I had it on the line and when I got it to the boat I kept trying to get it into the net and it was too big. Not kidding. She shook me off. Fishing alone. When I called my friend to cry about it, he asked me why I didn't just reach down and grab the fish. I was so tunnel visioned I didn't even think about it.
  14. Dead sticking a ned. You don't have much water to cover, and you probably know where it's deepest. Take a thermos of coffee and drink some coffee in between moving it.
  15. A-rig with 1/8 heads and 3.3" will fish well on that. Divine swimbaits better than keitechs, the keitechs are heavy. 1/2 oz chatterbait with a zako. Swimjig. I have more heavy rods than MH at this point, but I'm in Texas. I do find that my H rods with softer tips are much more versatile than the broomsticky ones. FWIW I've moved to 17lb line on nearly everything. I can't break it off without tying on a boat cleat, and I don't fish anywhere that would shred the line, so I get a little more castability, little less visibility, etc. And as a bonus the 17lb seaguar seems to always be on sale.
  16. As long as there's cover and food the bass will be just fine. I occassionally go to a neighbors 1/2 acre pond to fly fish for gills and bass. Probably only a couple over 20" in there, but a bunch of gills and buck bass. If you haven't taalked to a pond guy yet, Pond Boss in Texas (Bob Lusk) is very well known. Has a forum too.
  17. Definitely don't try this with your wife -in- said bathtub. Hey honey look at my new lure. She's supportive but... not that supportive.
  18. Not a terrible idea. I've noticed mine won't cut pondweed very well on the prop I have now. My old TM prop was much closer to the blade... seems that the pondweed just slides off and gets in the gap. Probably small files: I'd bet against me ever doing this, since we don't really have an off-season in Texas.
  19. I keep eyeballing those. Did they perform different than a senko? New stuff for the year that worked: 6" soft swimbaits duel 7+m deep crank netbait 6" trick worms shimano world boost jerkbaits
  20. 100% yes. St croix's Mod-fast and kistler nitranium are my favorites at the moment, if I'm looking for a cranking rod. In 3-6 feet, I'm likely to be on heavier hooks and want a crisper tip though, so I'm mostly using fast rods with some give in the tip; I think it is because I'm trying to feel my way through cover.
  21. I think it's a little too short for that. Site says it is 9x8x5.
  22. On the large size, the double zipper makes it so much easier to see stuff vs root through the bag . As a bonus, they are not as tall, which fits most soft plastic bags better anyway. I have some of the smaller plano speed bags and they mostly get relegated to longer-term storage of stuff, or odd shapes. As an example, I use the small speed bag for a spool of braid, mono, and flouro to go with me just in case.
  23. Plano Edge, stored on its side. Seal keeps the keitech smell in. A 3700 box can store 6-8 packs of keitechs, depending on the length. Watching what I actually fish vs what I carry around, I could probably get away with a 3600 and a bottle of mend-it. I store multiple sizes in the same/similar color in one opening. Keitech GP/watermelon 3.8 + 4.3. Keitech Bluegill flash 3.8 + 4.3 Keitech Shad-ish (I forget the color name) 3.2 + 3.8 Biospawn GP 4.3 (swimjig trailer, only need a couple) Biospawn shad-ish 4.3 (swimjig trailer, only need a couple) Divine 3.8 shad ish, flake and no flake, for a-rigs. I need to carry more of these since losing an a-rig means five are gone. Superglue helps a -lot- on the divine swimbaits since the keepers suck on most a-rig heads. Open compartment for anything that's had it's tail dipped. Adding one color to the box that'll need it's own compartment. Anyway the point here is that stacking them in a tray works just fine. Haven't had to throw a bait away yet, and it's been more than a year.
  24. This looks really interesting. I'll revisit after I have it on the TM directly for a while.
